Never trust the Internet. The embedded Destiny video may seem downright boring at first, but it comes to an epic conclusion – and carries a valuable lesson for us all. In it, a young PlayStation 4 player is merely having fun streaming Bungie's first-person shooter, when he's told by a group of fellow players that they can help glitch him to a higher level. Unsurprisingly, they don't.
The sequence of events that follow from about 13 minutes onwards are incredible, as the host starts a Share Play session, and allows his new "friends" to take control of his game. They then go on to delete two of his higher ranked Guardians, before switching to his current character and dismantling some of his better gear. The kicker is that he only sees the latter getting purged, and isn't immediately aware of the deletion of his heroes, too.
Honestly, the way things play out, we thought that this was staged, but you can't fake those long sobs towards the end of the clip. The developer's said that it can't restore characters, so two months of this kid's game time are now gone forever. We suppose the upshot is that his video's gone viral as a result – it's already had over 200,000 views.

Send the kid some goodies, Bungie! I think I'd be in tears if this happened to me, too!
Moral of the story: Dont Talk to Strangers!
Good Samaritans at work
Wow, that is such an incredibly mean thing to do to somebody.
..................so..........am i the only one who laughed at this
in all seriousness though why would you give someone else control of your account unless you knew them well or were actual friends.
It sucks, but that was incredibly stupid of the kid. I'm sorry, I had to say it. I only share played once, and it is to my best friend...I know where he lives. He can't out run me, if he messed around.
Troll of the year!!
Stupid thing is you can watch what they are doing. And immediately take the controller away. Shouldn't have gone AFK
@get2sammyb Dude was dumb and doesn't deserve anything.
Yea since he tried to CHEAT, I don't feel sorry for him one bit.
Little sympathy for someone trying to cheat and getting screwed over. However, the characters can't be restored or fixed? I find that hard to swallow in this day and age of online games.
While its very wrong that this can even happen My best guess is the person who did this to him did it because he was trying to cheat. Ive seen many rage post about how cheaters should be perma banned. Bungie should not give him anything . Plus I dont always belive what i see on the Internet! It very well could be some kind of stunt.I mean people will bust up a PS4 on launch day for hits on Youtube to get hits and make money this is a click bate come true.
While the target of this act isn't really sympathetic (He did want to cheat, after all), the fact that someone actually had the guts to do this is actually rather troubling.
@TOMBOY25 nope. I literally laughed out loud. I do feel bad for the lil guy though, he thought he was going to stream some awesome glitch, but instead he got punked. At least they didn't swat him.
Well Bungie, time to ban some players!
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi This is like getting upset that a crack dealer short changed you.
Just saying.. he was only trying to glitch to level faster. Maybe if the leveling in Destiny wasn't so incredibly dull and tiresome this wouldn't have happened. Wink Wink Nudge Nudge Bungie give us moar xp! I swear if I have to re-level all my exotics again when house of wolves comes out then Bungie is never getting any of my money again. At least not for Destiny.
The naivety of the kid and the fact that he was trying to glitch makes me not want to feel sorry for him but I can't help feel bad for him I would hate to lose a couple of months game progress. Lesson learned son don't share play with anyone you can't have words with in person if they mess with your stuff
@ReigningSemtex the naivety of the kid...practically all kids are naive come on man
@Flurpsel I couldn't imagine handing over control of my ps4 to anyone I didn't know even if I was a child.
Would you as a kid hand over your bicycle to another kid you don't know? I wouldn't of.
Maybe naive wasn't the right word but I didn't want to say he was dumb
@TOMBOY25 This is my fault too! He even got cocky and joined the party to say "thanks for destroying that weapon, I didn't want it anyhows" what a doosh, never give a stranger control of your console! Well least his just made more Destiny gaming time lol Plus the old saying is true......"cheaters never win!"
Why is it even a thing anyway?
Only the account holder should be able to delete things off his account, so this is a huge oversight by the guys behind SharePlay.
@reigningsemtex meh, as a kid I believed EVERYTHING my older brother told me, which made me the cynical mess I am today, soo maybe this kid shouldnt be punished for being naive
@get2sammyb Why would Bungie want to send him anything for trying to cheat?! His own fault for giving control to a stranger and then going AFK!
With video evidence Bungie should ban those trolls
I don't think this kid had any intention of cheating initially. It was the person who jumped into his game and told him he had a glitch to get his character level up if he 'shared' his game.
Its still an unforgivable action and I hope Bungie does do something to help the kid and ban that other player.
I do think it is ridiculous that they can't restore his characters. I know they must have had the data as they are stored online.
Why would he trust them? Oh I don't know, because he's a kid and kids are extremely trusting in their naïveté?
So what if he was trying to take advantage of a glitch. It's a video game. Doesn't justify this guy messing up his entire save and progression. Kids make poor judgement calls- that's why they're still kids in the first place. But that's an awful high price to pay for a single momentary lapse of judgement.
This is so mean, what is up with people? I despair at what we do to each other. The lad thought he was gaining a few levels on a laborious grind with a poorly constructed levelling system he's already done twice.
He didn't deserve that, bungie showing they are a long way behind the game leaders if they can't capture data that's been deleted. A thirteen year old can find data he's deleted but a game developer with all their tech can't?
and that's why share play should be limited to trusted friends you personaly know or not used at all
but still what did he think was going to happen, NEVER trust anyone on the internet, it's a even bigger hive of scum and villainy than Mos Eisley Spaceport
@JaxonH thing is a wrong as it is, that's how kids learn you can bet the kid will never do it again
@JaxonH Im with you mate.
Its not an excuse to be a prick and destroy someones progress.
I cannot see how anyone can justify the "offenders" actions.
"You shared your game so I have every right to destroy all your hard work and progress".
No, actually, you dont.
I got one of each toon, all at level 32 with almost every exotic in the game. Over 400 hours combined.
I'm 37 years old, but I'm pretty sure if someone deleted one of my toons then I'd be in tears too!
A real bad thing to do.
I must admit though... I did laugh when I saw this!
please watch the language -Tasuki-
So does this mean there's one less annoying kid on there?
@get2sammyb tries to cheat on a game looses his characters so let's send this kid who tried cheat some free goodies....
Damn that's was hard to watch.
Not watching it don't wanna really hear some kid cry, everybody cheats on Destiny anyway, they just call it cheese..doesn't change the fact it's cheating.
Also (I know nobody will read this prob's as it's a late post) but how is this kid supposed to know cheating is bad when the gaming community accepts cheating (cheesing) so much? He's just a product of his community.
Why would you laugh at that? If that had happened to you, I'm doubting any of you would be laughing. The kid was new to share play, and if the guy was on his friend list, he thought he could trust him. It's crap like this that keeps me from inviting people to my Terraria world.
A couple of weekends ago, my 9-year old daughter was playing Minecraft on PS4 and an online "friend" joined her game and used tnt to detonate everything she'd worked so hard to create. Thankfully it didn't bring her to tears, but she kept saying the same thing over and over on the PS4 microphone--"Why did you do that? It isn't your world."
Hopefully this kid was able to re-download his character profile and save game data from the cloud. I feel for him.
That's what you get for trying to cheat and then giving control over to another player, lol. (Bungie should implement a secret passcode to delete a character.)
Lol, he will not do that again....pretty mean by the other guys though
I'm not defending the a-holes that did this but I blame the parents in a way too
This kid was 11 years old, they had no place on Destiny to begin with let alone talking to strangers and letting them play with their toys.
For everyone saying the kid's too young to be playing, come on. It's not GTA or Call of Duty. Say what you like about Destiny but there's no swearing, no nudity, no misogyny and no more violent than your average episode of Stargate. And I suppose all of you were only watching 15 rated movies and playing 15 rated games when you were of that age and not a day younger?
And those who are saying he's wrong to cheat? Oh well I'm sure you're all cornerstones of your community that have used a cheat mode and would never even think about working around Bungie's ridiculous loot drop system and never, ever used Knights of the Round with a Mimic Materia in Final Fantasy VII on accounts of it being highly overpowered. If you can't feel sympathy for the kid then shame on you. You've clearly forgotten what it was to be 11 years old.
If you never put trust in someone who said they were your friend, then screwed you over, then you're a lucky guy. Usually you learn this lesson later in life, but 11 years old is way too early to learn it.
@RawShark well put +1 x1000 I couldn't agree with you more some people need to get off their high horses and take a long damn look in the mirror, there's not one person play's Destiny that hasn't cheesed (cheated) and this child was ELEVEN years old he was just copying what everybody else that play's destiny does, can he be blamed for thinking that glitching is'nt wrong??? Plus do people think the person responsible wouldn't of done this anyway regardless of if the kid was cheating or not? He would of done this anyway because thats the kind of guy he is, a predator that tricked a young child into giving him control of his PS and took amusemment and enjoyment from what he did, he probabaly hurts little animals as well. I've looked at the culprit's (I wont type his name here) profile and where you can type a bit about yourself he has put "Better Off Alone" and I couldn't agree more.
