Sony will be searching out its spanners and giving the PlayStation Network's servers a good seeing to next week, as it's announced that a pretty prolonged period of maintenance will take place on Monday, 11th May. Starting from 19:30AM PDT (22:30PM EDT / 03:30AM BST), the work will take just under ten hours, concluding at 05:00AM PDT (08:00AM EDT / 13:00PM BST) the next day.
Of course, while other sites will probably misreport this, you'll still be able to play online during that time. Services such as Account Management and the PlayStation Store will be unavailable, but as long as you've logged in 24 hours prior to the aforementioned time blocks, multiplayer should work just fine. Nothing to worry about, then, eh?

Just to double check, that effectively means that for us Brits, it'll all be taking place on one day, but on Tuesday the 12th, right?
@SteveButler2210 That's right, yes.
I feel sorry for those on PDT as its likely to affect their evening. At least in the UK its unlikely to affect so many (unless we have many insomniacs and/or morning gamers). As with all maintenance though, if you are signed in before this starts, you should be able to play - does this count if your console is on 'standby'?
Gotta say it's nice to see Sony doing maintenance at an excellent time it will hardly affect anyone at 3am, credit where it's due GJ, I don't think they could of done it at a more suitable time (for us Brit's anyway).
@get2sammyb Sweet, I'm Dutch so there is one hour difference with the UK
A lengthy maintenance period is always going to affect one region or another. It's actually quite refreshing that it's not the UK and Europe for a change (apart from the night owls anyways)
If it has to be done it has to be done. It amazes me when gamers moan about these, occasional, maintenance interruptions. Especially when on the other hand they're also moaning about the problems these are trying to fix. Some time having to resort to singleplayer... OMG!
Yeah, this is actually timed nicely for the UK, which does make a change. At the end of the day, though, as long as you're not trying to get on the PS Store, you shouldn't really have any problems.
Thanks for the info!
Maintenance is good thing to get every month. But I wish websites like this would post it on Facebook saying maintenance coming but don't worry you can still online. The amount of kids thinking there not gonna play online, they start complaining.
