It's been a whopping five years since John Marston... Well, yeah, we won't spoil what happens β but you really should have played Red Dead Redemption by now. A sequel from Rockstar San Diego has always seemed likely, and fortunately, it looks like the studio's really knuckling down now with its next release.
Indeed, the fine folks at GameSpot have uncovered a job listing for a Graphics Programmer. In it, the company explains that it's aiming to achieve "state of the art" graphics with its in-production project. It adds that successful candidates will work with the firm's "next-generation graphics pipeline including advanced lighting and rendering techniques and special effects".
"This is an exciting opportunity to develop cutting-edge graphics and visual effect systems, working together with the art department to create optimal, attractive solutions for our games," the advertisement reads. Interestingly, it furthers that experience with PlayStation platforms is not essential, but certainly preferred.
There's no mention of the PlayStation 4 directly, but a separate promotion for an Animation Programmer does refer to Sony's flagship format by name. Moreover, there's an open Network Programmer role as well, which alludes to "open world game elements" and "dynamic multiplayer". Sounds a lot like Red Redemption 2 to us β hopefully we'll see it soon.

Any chance for an announcement at E3 this year? I would be so happy!
@slampog It's honestly not impossible. I doubt it, though.
Galloping around the glorious scenery on Roach in The Witcher 3 reminds me of RDR a lot.
The next Red Dead game is going to be beautiful, I really can't wait.
Its a possibility, the job applications would definitely mean we are going to see another large open world product.
Keeping my eyes open for more information.
Can anyone fill the position? Even attempting to master visual basic I got about 15pages in to an idiots guide and was confused as hell as to what and why things were happening. Let along unreal engine.
A good program if anyone's interested is AGS its a free platform and is pretty good, unfortunately I dont have the time.
Wouldn't mind a new RDR back on subject.
Think there will be a mention at E3.
It "could" also be a Midnight Club game to compete with the new NFS.
@lSTARGAZERl @slampog Rockstar don't go to E3 so there's no chance of it being even hinted at. More chance of Brendan Rodgers resigning (fingers crossed!). They'll announce it - or whatever they're making - themselves when they want to.
I would take a new RDR over anything else Rockstar could offer.
This generation needs more new IPs so I wouldnt mind that neither
Please a sequel and not another remaster.
Ah the thought of this gets me so excited. Love RDR so much
@rastamadeus They let either Sony or Microsoft do it for them if it's at E3.
@Splat Me too!
Red Dead was in my top 3 games of last gen so another in the series would be very much appreciated!
