Square Enix has dropped a handful of bombs this week, with Final Fantasy VII Remake finally becoming a reality and all that. NieR New Project, announced to be in development for the PlayStation 4 during Square Enix's press conference yesterday, was one such shock – as famed developer Platinum Games is leading production.
And speaking in this week's issue of Famitsu – kindly translated by Gematsu – director Yoko Taro has stressed that the title's not a sequel. "The setting is connected [to the previous game], but that doesn't mean that the story is connected. This game is set in the future, so it's okay if you start with this game. Rather, people who played the previous game and come into this thinking it's a sequel might be confused."
Apparently the title's only 10 per cent complete at this point, so don't expect to be playing it any time soon. More will be revealed later in the year, however – presumably at the Tokyo Games Show in September. Are you excited that this series is making a return? She (or he, you never know with these JRPGs) does look straight out of Bravely Default to me! Will keep an eye on this one
Still have to play the first one...still sitting in the to-do pile along with around 30 or 40 other PS3 games!
I never got around to playing the first one. But, this short promo piqued my interest and will be following the updates till launch.
Can't wait.
@feral1975 My PS3 game backlog currently has like 60+ games I think.
