New mod tools have been announced for The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt on PC, which will apparently allow users to implement their creations more effectively. Good news for those involved, then, but we're a PlayStation site - why should we care? Well, fortunately for us, CD Projekt Red has also revealed some potentially exciting console-related plans.
Speaking with GameSpot, the Polish studio confirms that it's in talks with Sony regarding bringing mods to the PlayStation 4 version of the game, but there are no concrete details just yet. "We are thinking about it but it's a way more complex process to do this on consoles so we can't give you any details now," the developer stated, adding: "It's really important for us not to partition The Witcher community and allow access to mods to console gamers, too. We're considering various approaches to solve this and started initial talks with first-parties about this."
So there you have it - Wild Hunt could potentially become an even larger game with the addition of mods, but with nothing confirmed just yet, we'd advise against get too excited. That said, what would you add to the game if you could? Modify your opinions in the comments section below.

I don't like mod's that's something PC user's can keep as far as i'm concerned, I will never buy a game that can be legally modded.
PC mods are great.
I used to have Left 4 Dead 2 on Xbox 360 and had nothing with it other than the odd overpriced dlc, Bought it on Steam and i had instant access to new skins, new levels, weapons, enemies and gameplay.
Breathed a whole new lease of life into the game.
If done correctly, it works great.
I think the worry with mods on consoles - especially for the developer - is working out how to implement them correctly. It can't possibly be like it is on PC, because on PC, there are tons of mods that are made poorly and can easily break your game if you're not too knowledgeable of the process.
Like, when Fallout 4 supposedly gets mods on PS4, how many people would end up destroying their save files? Waaaay too many, and they'd all run to Bethesda screaming about how their game is ruined.
The only logical way to do this, I imagine, is for the developer itself to have a dedicated mod team who pick and choose which mods are suitable for console players. Anything else would result in utter chaos and outrage.
@xMEADx bit of an odd statement to make, why would you refuse to buy a game just because there is an option to use mods? That's all it is, an option, nothing more. Surely just buy the game and ignore the mod side of things? Otherwise you're going to end up missing out on all sorts of potentially great stuff!
@ShogunRok Yeah I'm inclined to agree, the mods would have to go through some sort of testing/approval process. Particularly as I assume they would be downloaded via the PS Store, which would presumably mean they would have to adhere to the standards for PS Store content.
Think it would great if this happens would love to see a first person mode mod put in and also maybe player housing!
Maybe someone could mod a better framerate.
To be fair I'm not really sure I see the point of bringing the PC Witcher 3 mods across though. Taking a look at what appears to be the main site for mods for the game, most of them seem to be aiming to improve graphics/performance, which are obviously specific to PC hardware.
If Mine craft PC modding came to the PS3 I'd never get my kid off of the tv. They're almost 2 different games., PS3 for multilayer playing, PC for modding.
i think this could work. maybe if they do something similar to steam workshop.
Is this the generation where we stop calling them "PC mods" and start calling them "mods"? That'd be nice!
this will be awesome I wonder if when the ps5/xbox what ever its called will come out if they will have a dedicated section for mods
@xMEADx you're missing out on a lot of great stuff then. Half Life 2, Grand Theft Auto 5, Heck it's not illegal to mod games, so that's a lot of games to not play.
@ShogunRok i actually expect console mods to be paid, i dont see the "real deal" mods coming to consoles also, a lot of them create their own textures/stuff and that will not go nicely with the fixed enviroment of the consoles (let alone the graphics enhancement mods), considering sometimes you just need to "power through" the problems of bad optimization (and a LOT of mods have terrible optimization)
@SteveButler2210 Witcher 3 best mod so far its the weight limit one
It doesnt have real mod tools besides going into the .ini and change stuff, but this should chabge with the mod tools
@xMEADx What the hell is Legally Modded? As opposed to what? CDprojekt provides the tools do this. Do you think they pursue and issue lawsuits out to PC players for modding their title? You sound ignorant. This isn't the same as hacking multiplayer in an arbitrary title. Would you not use a mod that, for instance, populates Kaer Morhen with all your buddies? As opposed to them all disappearing without reason? Or what about a mod that allows you to take Triss, Yen, or Ciri out into the world with you with a simple follow command? What about mods that make the graphics look more real?
@Faruko Also, nobody is telling you, you have to mod your own game. Simply ignore the option. Don't ruin it for everyone else.
