Imagine playing one of the Uncharted games. Imagine an opening cutscene in which series protagonist Nathan Drake wanders into shot, and he looks like the sort of guy you'd love to punch square in the jaw. Okay, so maybe you don't like the cocky explorer in the first place - that's fine - but you can't possibly think that this particular prototype mug was a good idea.
Looking like a sort of annoyingly animated Dreamworks character, Drake used to be a douche - there's no other way to say it. He was less wily and more stone-jawed; less suave European soccer player and more stereotypical American football quarterback - and we're so glad that he didn't end up on our television screen.
According to The Verge, this Drake was loosely based upon the face of Johnny Knoxville - except Naughty Dog wasn't quite ready to let go of its more cartoon-style visual design that's present in titles like Crash Bandicoot. Needless to say, we're thankful that the studio adopted a more realistic approach when it came to finalising the characters of Uncharted: Drake's Fortune.
So, what do you make of the roguish treasure hunter's earlier form? Is he a hunk or is he junk? Try to erase his overly smug smile from your mind in the comments section below.

"Hi! I'm Nathan Drake! Welcome to Jackass!"
Launches off cliff in a shopping trolley
@jameswalker85 Brilliant.
I assume he got around each level on a skateboard and collected Axe body spray powerups?
He saying "cheese"?
Low-hanging fruit: His character makes him a douche, not his face model.
young nathan still looks like a douche I want to strangle.
He looks like Jimmy Fallon did a Mad Max skit.
He still does.
Yep, that's awful. It's also aged really badly since it has this tacky feel to it, like they were just doing a really limp parody of an action hero rather than trying to create their own one.
Some would say he still does, but good lord that face is awful.
He looks like Jason from Far Cry 3 now that I think about it.
@Storytime7 Exactly.
I mean, that old model is definitely worse, but I can't really say I enjoy the design they ended up using. He's just a douchy-looking guy with no memorable physical trait whatsoever.
I dunno looks a little like ace ventura, yo lets get an ace ventura game saving pets already.
