Remember The Great PlayStation Network Outage™ of, well, last week? Feels a bit like ancient history really, doesn't it? Sony promised that it would offer an extension to active PlayStation Plus subscriptions, as well as PlayStation Now memberships and video rentals. And it sounds like it's about to come good, with the platform holder's Twitter account stating that more details will be revealed via email starting this week.
We're expecting a 24 hour extension to active memberships – after all, this will make up for both the 10 hours that the service was down as well as offer a bit of compensation. No one at Push Square Towers has been contacted by Sony yet, but we'll let you know as soon as we learn what this make good entails. Alternatively, if you've nabbed the abovementioned correspondence from the company already, it'd be nice if you shared it in the comments section below.

ooohhohooooo I wonder how I'm gunna spend the 11 pence this has saved me on my annual membership!
All I did that day was play DBX offline and grinded masters and skills. If they give me a free day for that thanks. It didn't really effect my playing at all.
@vegeta11 You wasted your day buddy. I spent it writing to Sony's head office and complaining on forums.
@kyleforrester87 I enjoyed your comment way too much!
@vegeta11 This is how I feel with all these "PSN outages". I am always like: "wha? there was an outage?" Even during the infamous "PSN hack" (down almost a month) I really didn't feel it. And I typically play games at least 4-6 hours a day (weekends tend to be more like 10-15 hours).
This is a bad move by Sony. Now whenever PSN goes down people are going to expect to get something for free and if they don't they are going to blow up forums like ours. Terrible, terrible idea.
@Tasuki Nahhh honestly if it goes down a day they should extend a day, not really anything to make a song and dance over though.
@Tasuki it's not really "something for free" though is it? More they are giving us back what we missed out on and have paid for...
@Tasuki complainers on the internet already expect everything for free, extending their subscription by a day or so isn't likely to move that needle much.
I was playing a game and a pop told me I have to be signed into the psn to take advantage of network features. I have no idea what this feature was but I just sort of got over it and moved on with my life.
Still I do like free stuff so I happily take that 24 hours.
@Tasuki They will moan anyway regardless mate especially on the PS Blog which just seems to be full of Vita fanboys and Plus haters these days.
Whoa if my broadband is down for a few hours do I get a free day or two from BT or Sky? And if my parcels arrive a day late omgosh end of the world! What if my pizza is 5mins late!??? Seriously did our parents raise us up to be moaners about such little things? I attend music gigs but if the musicians start 30mins late no one complains. The moany spoilt gamer - is this a trait we live without? The idea of gaming is for 'fun'. Imagine footballers loving football but it rains for weeks.... Who to blame then? God. Just play offline or try something else. Crikey seems some people treat gaming like crack! Maybe time to see a psychologist and ask is it worth getting angry over something so trivial
@bbq_boy I agree 100% with ya. That's the point I was trying to make about Sony giving a free day. If my power goes out does the electric comapny give me a free day? Sony shouldn't feel obligated to give us a free day cause their system went down for a day.
If your electric goes out for a day, yes you get compensated (spoilt food in freezer).
Should Sony feel obligated? Probably not, but it makes sense from a customer service point of view and isn't going to cost a packet to give all subscribers an extra day for this outage.
Seeing as how they did this last year, pretty much expected the reimbursement. I honestly used most of my online services that day and never skipped a beat. Cool with me:)
Bloodborne: The Old Hunters was played during this outage.
In all honesty, because I was playing it, I didnt know it was even down until half way through a boss fight and the co op guy got dc'd.
@Tasuki exactly they shouldnt.
The fact they do is a great gesture.
If people expect a network service to work flawlessly and indefinitely then they are oblivious to real life.
It's a good move. You pay for a full year, you should get a full year. Thankfully, unlike the fanboys who defend them at every turn, the people running Sony realize this. Basically says 'you sign up with us, you can expect to get full service out of what you pay for.' I still wish Sony would get better at communicating when problems arise but stuff like this is good customer service and is a lot better than last gen. It's a +1 for Sony and winning small battles like this one, along with bigger battles, is what has helped Sony gain back so much mindshare. It also should make MS pay attention and try to provide just as good customer service.
@kyleforrester87 Perfect response. Cracked me up!
Nice move from Sony, didn't need to be done but nice that they are.
@kyleforrester87 The only reason I play games is so I have something get angry and complain about.
@Tasuki If your power goes out then you don't pay anything for that day because your power isn't on.....Pretty bad analogy imo
I got my email! The one day extension is in the form of a code which must be redeemed by March 31, 2016. Gonna do that after work.
