Grand Theft Auto V is an unstoppable juggernaut. The game, which first launched over two years ago, has climbed to second in this week's UK sales charts, proving that there ain't any stopping Rockstar's train. Call of Duty: Black Ops III continued its dominance in first position, while FIFA 16, Star Wars Battlefront, and Tom Clancy's Rainbow Six Siege rounded out the top five. The latter appears to have found its feet, doesn't it?
Meanwhile, Just Cause 3 launched into sixth place, while WWE 2K16, Fallout 4, LEGO Jurassic World, and Minecraft populated the remainder of the top ten. There's not much to say elsewhere, though Uncharted: The Nathan Drake Collection did enjoy a small boost up to 15th place. Until Dawn and The Last of Us Remastered are still showing their legs, too, lingering around in the bottom half of the charts like a bad smell.

I must be close to being the only one left who hasn't even got GTAV yet. It will be a while before I get it too since I recently finished The Witcher 3, now ploughing through Mad Max. The last thing I want to do is go into another huge sandbox game.
@adf86 I've bought it twice, started it twice, and got to the submarine bit twice. I really must finish it someday.
I don't have GTAv either. I certainly didn't think much to GTA4 and the MP component and therefore didn't buy 5. I can't deny though that it has a lot of hours worth of content but its not a game for me.
The biggest surprise for me is how far Fallout 4 has dropped - especially considering all the hype and 'internet' buzz prior to release. I am not surprised by CoD consistently topping the chart though. I know many on the internet will be very negative about it, but considering how long Advanced Warfare stayed in the top 10 and the fact that Black Ops 3 is SO much better, its no surprise at all!
I haven't purchased a Call of Duty franchise since the original Black Ops, which was great fun but I was put off by the continual releases of games, how similar they all feel and so I removed them from my wishlist a long time ago. However, since then we've seen CoD games such as Modern Warefare 3, Advanced Warefare and two editions of Black Ops. I still feel like they're released at an increasingly rapid rate and I expect them to continually be purchased whether it's for the story, the multiplayer craze or some kind of weird collectible.
But why is Black Ops III, in first position? The game was released 3 months ago, and for any game that's still quite a short period of time, but I wouldn't expect that sort of thing for a CoD franchise. A game with years of anticipation and a much more interesting community would be of the Grand Theft Auto franchise, and honestly, that deserves first position. Although, it's a matter of opinion.
If something has changed so much since the original Black Ops to make Call of Duty improved and more entertaining, I would be glad to listen and possibly purchase the game. But I feel it would need a lot of persuasion, I think I just grew out of the series.
@get2sammyb
GTA V and The Witcher 3!!!
On a serious note, hands down one of the best games of this decade......I still feel it's open world might be the biggest achievement.
Bought it twice. Finished it twice!
Still think Read Dead Redemption is better tho...
@Phillendon
I think you just grew out of the series.......you forget that theirs a huge demographic that only plays 3 or 4 games a year.........COD, Madden or FIFA, and one or two more game. I have friends like that.......nothing against them.
@sub12 Haha! I'm really far into The Witcher 3 now, man - I think I'm probably half-way.
@BAMozzy @Bad-MuthaAdebisi @adf86
Go and buy GTA V. Seriously what are you guys waiting for. Its amazing.
@themcnoisy My son has it. The MP is everything that I hated about GTAiv and the campaign doesn't really interest me that much - not enough to waste that much on it. At most I wouldn't waste more than £10 on it!
@Phillendon CoD has probably the largest MP following of any game.Whilst you may feel its 'similar' for those that play, its a whole new set of Maps, weapons and Prestige levels. By the time a year is up, Most of the CoD community have reached the maximum prestige level, unlocked every weapon, attachments etc, majority of emblems and played every map 1,000's of times. They are ready for the next. For those who play a lot - like myself - the differences between each is significant too although I know there are similarities too. Each development studio's CoD have a different feel about them as well as other differences in Campaign style and co-op modes too. Just because they have 'Call of Duty' on the box doesn't mean its like every other CoD game. Even those made by the same studio changes more than the Battlefield series (not criticising it as I enjoy that too).
EA, at one point had something similar - i.e a big FPS game releasing each year with its Battlefield and Medal of Honour franchises. I guess they could do it with Battlefield now and have DICE release every other year and Visceral (who made Hardline) do the in-between years.
Anyway back to CoD, Black Ops 3 is very different to Black Ops 2 (although it feels similar), very different from Ghosts and very different from Advanced Warfare which is probably the most different in terms of how it plays. I know there are similarities but you could say EVERY FPS game shares a lot of similarities too.
@BAMozzy
Okay, so you've helped clear it up a bit about how the different developers continually switch and have their own style and game-play but as a unique way of thinking of it that you enlightened. Each release of Call of Duty is like a new... Season, so to speak. Each season lasts approximately a year and with the new season comes a new experience and adventure to the whole game.
It sounds slightly appealing now actually... If I think about it as a season.
@Phillendon It is very much like a new Season. I guess Fifa is similar in that respect as it has a new set of stats and reflects the current teams for that season in football. I know it does have a few 'game-play tweaks and new features too.
CoD is an eSports game and that has 'seasons' as well. You don't get the eSport gamers playing the old CoD games - no doubt they are bit fed up of those after playing them non stop day after day. The rules of the games are obviously similar but they do differ a lot as each also bring a new game mode or two. You also get new perks, tweaks to perks and in the last 2, a new movement mechanic. Certain things from Black Ops may remain in BO3 but there is also a lot of changes too. If the last game you played was BO, then BO3 is a LOT different.
Obviously each CoD has a new campaign, BO3's is also a 4 player co-op with an 'alternative' version against Zombies, New co-op experiences - Zombies has evolved, and of course the MP too which has evolved a lot whilst keeping certain characteristics which is why CoD became popular.
It has more changes than Fifa but I guess its a similar thing in that each new season brings about a new set of challenges. Most CoD's I average around 1,000hrs+ especially if you add in co-op and campaign. It works out as good value for me. BO3 hasn't had 'clan wars' yet but that is also seasonal too. I have friends from clans I was in from MW3 and other friends that I still play with from CoD4!
@BAMozzy
I guess I'll have to purchase the next Call of Duty and give it some thought into participating in a form of season... It's been a while so I'm not sure how I'll fit into the series any more but its worth a shot. Thanks for opening my eyes!
