You remember Deep Down, don't you? A PlayStation 4 exclusive from Capcom, the game was originally announced back in February 2013, but we've heard nothing about it for quite some time. Indeed, it came to light that the Japanese company was having real trouble with its new-gen Panta Rhei engine, which led to many, including ourselves, assuming that the project was all but dead.
However, Capcom has renewed the copyright for the title, which suggests that it's still alive - at least to some extent. Of course, trademarks that aren't actually tied to any tangible product are extended all the time, but this still shows that the publisher hasn't entirely forgotten about Deep Down. Will we see it reborn and running on a different engine at some point in the future? We suppose that anything's possible.
Were you ever excited for Deep Down? Do you believe that it may still be alive? Explore the dank, dark, and dangerous dungeon known as the comments section below.

It's never coming out.
Please come back, panta rhei engine was the sex
They just need to add a focused single player mode and not make it f2p
That's a shame, it was looking really good. I assume a broken psn priced version will be thrown out after PS5 comes out and nobody will care anymore.
@get2sammyb
It already came out...
Its called Dragon's Dogma Online.
Deep down I'm kind of disappointed, but even deeper down I don't get excited for games I haven't seen actual game play of. I wonder if this was going to try and be a Dark Souls type game or a Skyrim type game We'll just have to dig deep down and be patient.
Forgot about it until now. Will be disappointed until tomorrow. Please don't bring it up again : (
@JMillsDezign I have seen a lot of gameplay i vjust dont know if it has changed.
@get2sammyb
It might if they have let go of their own engine and switched to the savior of Japanese game development: Unreal Engine 4. With renewing this copyright they have the legal obligation to be planning a release and if the game is developed on UE4 that just might happen.
Japanese studios need to let go of the idea that they need an own engine, unless they have the money to support building one. It's better to get specialists aboard to make proper documentation for UE4 in Japanese (as far that's still necessary), get the right middleware and just develop away.
I won't bet the farm on this ever releasing either, but if they just release Dragons Dogma Online in the west I don't even need it anymore!
I sure do hope that they'll release the game some year. Probably 2017 or 2018? I mean, I was excited for the game because it reminded me of Dark Souls and Dragon's Dogma. And even if it had some kind of downgrade, I was still excited for it. Nevertheless, I fear that this game will never be released to the Ps4 and only to the ps5 since they wanted the graphics to be incredibly next gen, even though having realistic graphics is not necessary.
Bloodborne doesn't have realistic graphics and focused more on the gameplay and lore, and was nominated GotY of 2015
Id still like DeepDown... its one of the games i got a PS4 for.
Not fussed, Dark Souls 3 is out in April and I expect will be a much better game than Deep Down would have been.
@get2sammyb Vaporware!!
Would rather have Dragons Dogma 2, and not an online version.
Oh well, it still made you believe in bright future in 2013 and for that I say thank you.
@goonow That's a good point. It was one of those newly announced games that made people think "wow, this generation is gonna be good", and that's no bad thing.
