The format's very slowly starting to fade here in Western territories, but in Japan, the PlayStation Vita remains an extremely popular platform. Sony's hoping to capitalise on that with a new budget Starter Kit bundle, which is set to roll out in the company's home nation from 3rd March. Initially, it'll only be available in limited quantities, but we can see the firm bringing it back if it proves popular.
The set – which will retail for ¥19,980, so roughly $175 – will ship in Aqua Blue or Glacier White variants, and will include a 16GB memory card, alongside a USB cable, AC adapter, and manual. It's not the most exciting bundle ever, then, but it's a good price – and with games like Dragon Quest Builders and Minecraft proving popular overseas, we can see it appealing to a younger demographic.

Why oh why didn't Sony bundle the memory cards with the console in the first place - or at least not charge silly prices for them?
Vita may have had more of a chance then...
@Dodoo You will have to look at the PSP for that answer, basically Sony had a knee jerk reaction with what happened with the PSP's memory format being easily alerted.
@Warruz I see, didn't know PSP was the reason. Even so the highly inflated prices put a lot of people off. Me included until they reduced the price...
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Yeah internal memory would have been an even better idea. Even if it was just 8Gb to get started with, most people would still have bought an extra memory card I'm sure...
I have always been tempted by the vita but the memory situation has always made me think twice. I can understand Sony wanting to make extra money but at some stage they must have thought why dont we include a decent amount of memory internally then if consumers want more sell them the cards as well. Its not as if memory is even expensive and I am sure they would have sold more as a result. If I did get a Vita it would be the OLED screen version.
The Vita s a good product but I also think the rise of tablets and smart phones has impeded sales. They could have also bundled Vita with PS4 at a discounted price to get more out there.
@dryrain they are brilliant but you need a grip and a 32gb card minimum. I have an 8gb and 16gb and never buy any games as they are full.
(to be fair I have hardly any free time and any I do have is spent on the ps4)
How about sneakily relaunching the system worldwide or at least maybe bundle some with PS4's and get them in the wild. There is so much potential for connectivity to the PS4 not to mention encouraging developers to bring some new games to the system
Sell this over here and I'll buy one.
Pretty much all the stores I've been checking over the past few years have stopped selling Vita hardware just as I was about to buy one...
I can't even buy a PlayStation TV! sigh
