While we complain about bugs and pre-order campaigns, it's easy to forget that hundreds of people contribute to the creation of a single game. This new video series from Sony Santa Monica aims to put the spotlight on the stories of individuals from within the storied studio, with senior staff character artist Rafael Grassetti first up.
His tale spans playing soccer in the streets of Sao Paulo to finally landing his dream job at one of PlayStation's most famous first-parties. It's an inspiring watch, with more to come in the future it seems. Plus, that clay-based statue of Poseidon that Grassetti's working on throughout the clip is properly amazing.

I am kind of surprised that there are not more documentaries/tv programs looking at the game industry and the creation of games. A tv series about the creation of a big or small game filmed from inception to launch would be a good watch. It would also make people appreciate more the pressures and tough decision making that goes on during the creative process.
@dryrain Yeah though I think the media at large still seem to look down on the games industry as being a "bad influence" and it doesn't seem to be taken very seriously.
I suppose this isn't helped by the fact that any stories run in national press etc are always negative and highlight things like the hookers in GTA or why some mad gunman shot loads of people because "he played Call of Duty". The positive points always seem to be overlooked.
Anyway I'm rambling, but that could go some way to explain why more documentaries/series articles etc seem to be lacking...
While I do think the media generally likes to play up the idea of video games and violence in America, the tide has started to turn in the last couple years. More and more now you hear heartening reports about the usefellness of games in the classroom, how games like mine craft and city and farm simulators help kids learn etc etc. When I first started gaming as a wee 4 year old, it was a niche hobby, at best. I have watched it grow from something people look down on and ridicule to entering nearly everyone's lives in some way or another. As much as I hate what mobile gaming is doing to core gaming, it has definitely brought about an awareness and popularity to the hobby.
Oh, and I really hope they reveal a new GoW at E3!
@SonyInfinity I am a nbig fan of GoW too, but I rather hope Santa Monica can announce a new IP!
@SonyInfinity I would be happy for a new GoW but Kratos' story has been told. A new setting with a new protagonist. Maybe Egyptian or Norse would be great to hack & slash through.
@vegeta11 Everyone keeps suggesting Egyptian or Norse, and I understand why. They both have a wide range of deities with different personalities and agendas. I personally think Norse would be cooler than Egyptian, but why not go really crazy with it and make it about Sumerian mythology and the creation of man on earth as ape-slaves to mine gold for our God like overlords? Lol
@SonyInfinity they all work. Just no more Kratos since he killed them all. Let's be honest all mythologies had jerk Gods who could easily create a new main character to play as for a few games.
