We've been beating the Drake's going to die drum for years now, but Naughty Dog's naturally remaining schtum about the manner in which Uncharted 4: A Thief's End will, er, end. It does, however, believe that the conclusion will be divisive – with arguments already breaking out over the finale.
"If focus tests are anything to go by, there will be some arguments about the ending," creative director Neil Druckmann told IGN. "I'm excited. Indifference would be the worst thing. I would rather have people hate it than be indifferent to it. We'll see how they react." Hmm. Asked whether the protagonist will peg it, the daggered developer said: "You don't really want me to tell you."
Speaking exclusively with yours truly, lead designer Ricky Cambier suggested that leaving Drake behind is a necessity for the studio. "It's important in terms of pushing storytelling forward in general," he said. "And, y'know, we are sad – I mean, the title's right there: a thief's end. It's not a little goodbye party."

The tone just doesn't fit with the rest of the trilogy though that's the issue. If this had been some dark story from the get-go that's fine but it hasn't been that & to come into the final game & to try being all decisive & infuriating your fans is just insulting & a betrayal of the spirit of the series.
@Dreamcaster-X We still don't know what's going to happen, though. Maybe they ride off into the sunset happily ever after?
I feel like we're being conned somehow because they have repeatedly stressed that "fans won't like the ending" or "it will be decisive" and they always go back to well it is called a thief's end as to imply Drake's death or maybe that's they want us to believe.
In Naughty Dog I trust. After playing The Last of Us I have total faith in how they will handle Drakes end game. I just hope I find out for myself before some troll tries to spoil it for everyone else.
Given how big of a game Uncharted 4 is I am going to have go into media blackout for the weekend of its release. I won't even log into Facebook because you can pretty much bet someone somewhere will post the spoiler.
With a game like Uncharted I won't stop playing it until those credits roll. Should have it finished within a weekend because of how addictive the series is.
Sopranos style...
Commander Sheppard lasted 3 games and Drake is onto his fourth adventure its time to let him rest, RIP Nathan Drake
@dryrain If they kill him off that would really piss me off. ME had one of the worst and crappy endings ever....
@get2sammyb I know this - you better have some HUGE spoiler warnings when you find out and tell us.
@DrClayman That's exactly what I was thinking.
For the one person on the planet who may have missed it:

@Flaming_Kaiser Mass Effect 2s ending is possibly the best ending ever. Then ME3 and star boy was the most anticlimactic ending ever. I don't think the Death of Shephard was the issue though.
Considering how "mature" and "dark" they made the Last Of Us, I am expecting MAJOR changes to the overall feel and tone of this game. Afterall, Henning is gone, and I have feeling that with her gone Neil and Bruce are going to take this thing down a much darker path. In some ways I think it may infuriate some fans who will be looking for that light hearted romp, but since the earliest trailers they have made it very apparent that part 4 will take a much darker and mature turn. I for one hope this is the case, I much preferred the mood of the last of us over the Drake trilogy and I am actually glad Neil and Bruce took over total control and decided to make major changes to the game. I am expecting greatness, and Naughty Dog is one of only 2 or 3 developers that I trust completely to make a game that I know I will like without a doubt.
The Last of Us had a controversial ending, it fits with what Naughty Dog does. I just hope the game isn't a complete drag. I love The Last of Us, one of my favorite games of all-time but it wasn't 'fun.' What I liked about Uncharted was it was always light hearted and fun, I'm not really seeing that with 4 and I'm with some others who are bothered by that fact.
The actual gameplay and interactions look like an Uncharted game to me - light, and fun. I think the darkness is coming from the marketing that this is the last Uncharted game. I think it will be a great action romp that will end with some sort of emotional sendoff. I don't think that Uncharted has gone all Dark Knight on us or anything.
