The speculation regarding a historical Battlefield 5 is really heating up now. There was, of course, that "leak" from a retailer earlier in the year – and now EA Games has released a teaser trailer showing what appears to be a soldier in a World War I-era trench coat. Now we should stress that you can't see enough of the troop's clobber in order to get an accurate read on the time period, but it definitely looks like a historical jacket to us.
And developer DICE has certainly been teasing that online. Making fun of the Call of Duty account's infamous poop emoji tweet, senior media director Randy Evans said: "So fun to see everyone's excitement and predictions about the teaser. Tomorrow is gonna be messy." Meanwhile, ex-Battlefield boss Ben Cousins posted a link to the Wikipedia page for Codename Eagle – an old DICE game set in 1917. Hmm.
All will be revealed later today, as EA Games has scheduled a special media event to announce the new title. We'll bring you all of the big news as and when it breaks, so stay tuned. In the meantime, though, let us know: are you ready for a historical shooter? It would be a nice change of pace from all of the future warfare stuff, eh?

Better teaser than the Call of duty one and it's 4 seconds long xD
@HeyDrumstickGuy
Battlefield peek a boo. I'm interested, the CoD tripe does not interest me yet.
WW2 would be amazing for a new Battlefield even WW1 would be cool...
Definitely interested. I have always preferred the old warfare than the futuristic one in these shooters.
If WWI is the scenario, I hope they will include the Alpine frontline. There were some crazy bloody assaults on mountain bunkers above 2000m over sea
So stoked for a new battlefield... Not bothered where it goes as long as it doesn't go Sci fi with all the space and lasers (like another popular shooter has done ) really excited to see the graphics too as battlefield 4 was near enough a port wasn't it? Excited for the full current gen battlefield experience!
I reckon they might try to appeal to both sides with an alternate timeline scenario. I'm thinking C&C Red Alert/Wolfenstein style.
It looks as though there's a huge towering object rising up so @kyleforrester87 may have called this correctly. I'd certainly be up for a more campy/fun war game!
WW1 or WW2 either of those is fine for me. They have done quite a few up to date warfare games so it would be a pleasing change to go back in time. Fingers crossed its a good result later on today.
@Churchy I also thought the object might be a Zeppelin
I was sold at World War 1 or 2.
Call of Duty has become a shell of what it used to be, focusing on becoming futuristic and more like Destiny, and not listening to fans.
Loved BF4 as long as it has plenty of vehicle's, jet's, boat's and tank's etc i'll play this to death (as long as it's nothing like BFH) can't wait. Might be a PC game for me though will have to wait and see. Totally off topic and will understand if i'm told off but is there any new's on Fallout 4 survival?!? Been waiting patiently all week! (even bought the dlc)
@kyleforrester87 I seriously hope you're right.
If it does go back to WWI that would be another reason Infinity Ward is bundling MW Remaster with IW. On the Battlefield side of things it would make sense considering how bad the sales were for Hardline.
Thank the lord someone on the planning department has seen sense. I love Sci fi but in gaming it been done a million times, fingers crossed this is the ww1 game we have wanted this gen.
(Britain spent more on cigarettes than ammunition in ww1)
