Remember God of War: Ascension's multiplayer mode? As far as we can remember, it was actually pretty cool, but the competitive component won't be making a return in God of War on PlayStation 4. That's according to director Cory Barlog, who spoke to Level Up at E3 2016.
Truth be told, we're fine with the decision to ditch multiplayer in favour of Sony Santa Monica focusing all of its attention on Kratos' latest adventure. Given the studio's stellar track record, it's safe to say that we have high hopes for the bearded berserker's return - and the fact that we still can't stop watching that E3 demo just goes to show how excited we are to see more.

good the MP in the other games was boring and felt tacked on
not every game need a MP component and i'm glad developers are starting to realise this
That's a shame, i loved Ascensions MP
@FullbringIchigo only one game had multiplayer and it is great, just because you didn't bother to check it out if put time in it doesn't mean it's tacked on.
@viciousarcanum OK first: i did play it for quite a while, you assumed i didn't because i didn't like it
second: you liked it and i respect that but i didn't, not everyone likes the same thing and each persons point of view should be respected
third:Tacked on means it was an un-needed addition and it was un-needed addition, i'm not saying it was bad because it did function very well i just didn't like it and for a series like God of War it was unnecessary and felt like they did it just because everyone else was doing a multiplayer mode for their games at that time
fourth: yes i know it was only one game, i hit the "S" button by accident
im fine with this i didnt buy the Ps4 to play with other people anyways.....
Not a problem, SP is what I'm after with GoW...
Extremely predictable. Ascension's SP seemed to suffer with their split focus on both SP and MP. MP was fun though.
Great!!! Ascension was my biggest gaming disappointment (along with Resi 6 and Dead Space 3). All campaigns in those games were compromised by spending time and resources to create needless (in my opinion) multiplayers. Never enjoyed any of these games in multiplayer.... Glad its gone!
Good. Its an unneccasary element that would hog the main games budget and development time.
I didn't mind ascensions multiplayer but I really don't mind if multiplayer isn't there on god of war
great. glad to hear it, concentrating on SP is alright by me.
Good. Some games are better as single player only.
These comments make me ponder what went wrong in Uncharted 2 SP...
Rarely does one element of a game impact the other, Ascension's story was simply written that way.
No loss there. God of War has always been a great single-player series. It didn't need anything else bolted on to convince people to play it. It's good that some game companies (apart from EA apparently) are starting to realise that some games just don't need any multiplayer.
The same way games like Team Fortress 2 don't need single-player. People who want to play a multiplayer game can just eject the disc and put a multiplayer game in.
Just like I said when Rise of the Tomb Raider cut the multiplayer, good. Some games it works well for, others it doesn't, God of War has always been more of a singleplayer game. That said, for what I was hoping for from the return of the GoW series, this is the only bit of good news I've seen so far.
