The PlayStation 4 is suffering from a real software drought in Japan right now, but Sony's latest console just refuses to budge from the top of the hardware charts. PS4 sales actually increased by around 2000 units despite the fact that the dismal Umbrella Corps was the only current-gen entry in the top ten - and even then, Capcom's mess of a release only managed to shift around 9000 copies.
Two Wii U titles and one popular 3DS game allowed for Nintendo bragging rights in the top five, but it's worth noting that the second spot was snapped up by fresh Vita RPG Caligula, which sold through a fairly reasonably 31, 243 copies.

I guess they're buying PS4s in anticipation of some games this fall?
FF15 hype will probably continue to push ps4 sales in Japan through the summer. Plus there are already a pretty reasonable selection of games that cater to the Japanese crowd on the ps4, just not any that have released in the last couple months.
Unless you combine all the 3DS models together, then it is edged into second by just approx 180 units.
Vita Minecraft also continues to shift units. Did we ever get a physical Vita release in Europe?
Could it not just be in Japan on ps4 they buy lots digitally. They have a fantastic broadband infrastructure, and super fast speeds.
Lol @ number 9 hardware sales.
The sun may rise in the East at least it's settled in a final location..
I'm surprised Story of Seasons is doing so well (it's Harvest Moon minus the Harvest Moon label and IP).
Caligula!
We need this game localized for Vita. You Sony gamers are pretty vocal. Is anyone taking up the cause here?
@Utena-mobile
MS has never done too well in Japan, so it's not surprising. Xbox One could've done much better in its strongest markets, the U.S., Canada and UK, had things been handled better at the start but the Xbox has always had trouble getting a foothold in Japan.
@JaxonH
Good news for you since one of the game's publishers is Atlus, there's a good chance it will come out in North America. I actually saw some articles where it said they're targeting 2017. Not a fan of turn-based so it isn't a game I'm clamoring for. I do want to play Vanillaware's 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim but that game doesn't even have a confirmed Japanese release date yet. That's Atlus again too though so I'm not worried about it eventually coming over. They've got us covered whether we want to play on PS4, Vita or both. Lots of respect for that company.
@Gamer83
Atlus is probably my favorite 3rd party developer/publisher (although Square Enix is fighting tooth to reclaim that throne and they're doing a pretty good job).
I just bought Tokyo Mirage Sessions #FE (that Shin Megami Tensei and Fire Emblem crossover on Wii U) and it's just excellent. Atlus never disappoints. Stella Glow and Etrian Odyssey games on 3DS too. And Shin Megami Tensei IV, and soon SMT IV Apocalypse.
Even new studios formed by ex-Atlus staff go on to become formidable developers. Vanillaware, for one, who have contributed Muramasa and Odin Sphere to Vita, and now we're seeing both Grand Kingdom and Trillion developed by ex-Vanillaware/Atlus staff.
Thank goodness Sega is doing right. I think Atlus' dedication to quality is even rubbing off on Sega, as the president has vowed to put quality first going forward, even claiming they want to return Sonic to his glory days.
Here's to Atlus!
