Alright, quit giggling at the front – you may be a whiz at operating your PlayStation 4, but anyone landing on this page from Google may have a few questions to ask about folders. The good news is that they're super easy to create and manage, as the video above or the remainder of this brief article will evidence.
To create a folder, first hover over a tile – be it a game or application – that you'd like to file away. Push the Options button on the DualShock 4, and select 'Add to Folder'. From here you'll be given the option to create a new folder, or add the icon that you selected to an existing one. When creating a new folder, you'll be able to name it, and bulk select any other apps that you want to add to it.
Another nifty feature is that you'll be able to select the order of the tiles by clicking on them and moving them with the d-pad. Once you're happy with your folder, you can confirm it and it will be added to the main ribbon on the PS4's user interface. If you want to remove or move an app from the folder, simply hover over it and press Options again. Select 'Move from this Folder' and either opt to remove it entirely or put it in a different folder when the menu appears.
Simple stuff, eh? Well, it is – but this is a great organisation feature which we intend to get a lot of use out of. But what do you think of PS4's folders? Let us know in the comments section below.

While I'm happy they've included folders, it does irk me somewhat that the folders re-organise themselves based on recently played stuff. The ability to drag and drop/ pin items is also sorely needed and a huge oversight in this addition IMO. Is personal customisation too much to ask?!
I had access to the beta for this and I must admit the changes to the quick menu are quite beautiful.
Pretty useful stuff but it would be handy if a game could be added to multiple folders (like Rogue Galaxy could be in Retro and RPG)...
I was so excited and then realized I can't organize the video folder, so it's still loaded with ads and apps I never use. I just want Plex, Netflix, YouTube, and Amazon in one area, without having to hunt for them amid the wasteland of useless (to me) video apps and ads.
This'll be cool though. I'll make a folder for horror games, indie games, games that my wife might want to play, things like that.
I have yet to check them out, but looking forward to making some folders when I get home tonight.
So happy to finally have them! It's going to be great to separate by genre as well as "playing now", "to play", "finish", and "replay" folders.
@get2sammyb This is an OCD's dream come true lol. I've already sorted mine. It is hard, though, as @hi_drnick alluded to, when you've got an FPS folder and an RPG folder and a game (fallout 4) that falls into both categories. But it's a minor irk and nothing that can't be ignored, for now lol.
I love what they did with the Share button and Quick Menu, best thing about this update. Folders are great but they could use pinning and the ability to get rid of useless apps.
why cant they just let the games been seen in multiple folders. My heads turned moving a game back and forward as I can't decide which folder it sits best in. Shame so close to perfect Sony.
I need to try this.
Thank you for the tips.
its SSSOOO good to finally have folders! and like others have said already it would be cool to be able to put games into multiple folders but still very cool! i really like the cover pic option too. now just let us use custom themes !
It was really really was EASY to do And it felt soooooo gooooooood + I wish they included more free backgrounds to 2 New ones only I think. Love the blue 1 tho. A sort of PS1/2/3 one would be cool with the icons and that I would love
