As you'd expect, PlayStation 4 sales are plummeting in Japan ahead of the Slim's imminent arrival. Sony's system sold through just 1828 units last week as the standard PS4 model is slowly phased out to make room for its sleeker sibling.
Meanwhile, on the software side of things, there's no really too much to see. The best selling PlayStation release last week was The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt - Game of the Year Edition, which entered in second and sold through 11,948 copies. Not too shabby for a game that's over a year old.

And it still beats the One that has to hurt.
Pitiful. I don't think the Wii U ever fell this low and that console has sold poorly as well. For the PS brand's sake I hope this is just a matter of people holding off for new hardware but I'm not convinced. Japan hasn't gone out and bought either of its homeland companies consoles the way it used to and it's why I believe the rumors about NX being primarily a handheld are true. Japan clearly doesn't want home consoles anymore.
@Gamer83 Nah, a console doesn't just drop 20,000 units in two weeks purely because a country is gradually losing interest. Definitely an effect of the Slim / Neo.
Wow that's a bit disastrous - it's only 14.5x more than the X1!
PS4 #s falling on today's reveal and next weeks TGS - in case some in Japan didn't know about today's "Meeting" - makes sense. We'll have to wait and see how the next few weeks go, depending on when Slim and Neo launch. Though 2DS will outsell them both over the next few weeks.
But what I wonder about are those Vita #s. Everybody keeps saying no new handheld, b/c Sony said no new handheld, but are they really going to give up the handheld market in Japan just like that? Sony has left Vita for dead, said no new games, stopped promoting it in the west, replaced the nice OLED screen, but it still sells 10,000 week in and week out in Japan. That's 1 million per year. Just in Japan, for a console Sony has been activley trying to kill for the past year or 2.
Imagine if Sony made a console that ran off of Micro SD cards, had TV out, remote play, Playstation Now, Playstation Vue, and a bunch of apps people want like Facebook, Twitter and Netflix. Why wouldn't that sell? I would think a Vita 2 w/ TV out would do 5 million a year in Japan alone. But I keep reading no new handheld. It doens't make sense.
Well done on Vita sales Sony and Japan. I probavly bore everyone on here going on about Vita, but it is just such a fantastic console. It deserves to be doing so much better in the west than it is. Its library is incredible. Hopefully Sony will cut the price of those memory cards tonight because that has always been one of the main things holding it back.
I would love to think Sony won't abandon the handheld market - time will tell i suppose!
@rjejr i would be there day 1 and i have never done that for a console before
