With regards to 4K resolution and HDR, you really need to see the PlayStation 4 Pro with your own eyes in order to appreciate the improvements that it offers. However, at the Tokyo Game Show this week, Sony is showing off a handful of titles on a very expensive panel – and Game Watch took a few photographs.
Now it's worth remembering that you're (probably) viewing these images on a standard panel, so they'll look even better in person. That said, Final Fantasy XV in particular looks incredible – apparently it has more detailed textures, increased vegetation, and a more stable framerate when running on the Japanese giant's new hardware.
Because there's been so much misinformation about this machine, it's worth mentioning yet again that you won't need a 4K television to see the improvements that PS4 Pro has to offer. If nothing else, supersampling on the new system will improve image quality, but some developers are incorporating additional modes specifically for those who don't want to upgrade their sets.
There are more images through here.

That Final Fantasy XV image is impressive. I can't imagine how good that looks in person.
Wow, all three of those look pretty damn lovely. Getting more and more tempted by the PS4Pro every time I see stuff like this, but it does make me think I probably want to get a new TV first. I know you don't need it, but it seems like a shame not to when the games could look this good. My old-ish plasma is feeling a bit past-it now anyway.
I've been meaning to get a new TV for years now. Panasonic have got a swish 4K UHD set of 50 odd inches for about 600. I might treat myself to that and a Pro next bonus pay day in March 2017. I get that this product is quite niché, but I don't have many other hobbies so why shouldn't I indulge?
Certainly do look incredible. I am really looking forward to seeing how it compares to my PS4 on my TV. Whilst its not as expensive as the Sony panel used here, its actually better for gaming and compares very favourably with this in terms of 4k HDR and PQ.
I really would recommend that people go to a store and watch a demo or 3 of HDR. Once you see what that means, you can apply it to these game shots and get a better idea of what these could look like...
with this ps pro being able to stream at 1080P does that mean that the pstv will actually work properly now...or is it simply for pc's??
No matter how good any of these Pro images may look, they don't really mean anything to me unless they are shown side by side on the same monitor and same calibration as the other 2 PS4 models. Any game is going to look better on a top of the line well calibrated HDTV than on a poorly calibrated HDTV that people may be playing on at home.
If I had a 4k TV my mind would be made up, but I need to see some side by side impressions -from independent 3rd parties - before I'm convinced it's worth the extra money on my tvs.
@unionjack3rd I'm pretty sure the PlayStation TV can't output at 1080p anyway. Isn't it restricted to 1080i?
I assume the standard PS4 can stream 4k videos at least?? If they put a bunch of video content of games on PSN then 4k TV owners could view what the Pro is capable of??
@get2sammyb
Oh yeah...forgot about that...
I'm considering a second PS4 and replacing my Xbox one.
Saves buying stuff twice!...
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi HDMi 1.4 can cope with 4k but only at about 24fps. If Sony really want to show what games look like in motion running in 4k HDR, the best and most accurate way without actually having a PS4 Pro is to record the games and put them on a 4k HDR Bluray disc - ironically. Of course they could upload the digital file that would be on the disc for download to a USB and play that on a 4k HDR TV...
Youtube can't offer HDR and even 4k is 'compressed' so not as 'impressive' as the game will look in reality. Lets be honest though, we've come a long way since seeing a 'small' screenshot image in a magazine and being 'impressed' by the way a game looks. Now we can get 4k videos showing how a game actually looks in motion and get a good idea of how it plays too.
Hopefully, game retailers will have a PS4 Pro connected up to a 4k HDR TV playing a 'demo' of these games in next few months. I can see them having this set-up after the Pro releases.
@AhabSpampurse I Have a 4k panasonic tv but unfortunately I didn't know hdr existed when I bought it. Just wanted to say make sure yours has HDR as 4k alone isn't worth the asking price it's hdr that makes the most difference.
@BAMozzy I'll probably own one before I see it on the shop floor, never mind eh
@Pinkman yeah, I was initially looking at these 4K Hisense sets as they were affordable and apparently good value for money. That was only £450. I noticed just before completing the purchase though that HDR was missing from it, so I dodged a bullet there!
Cannot wait for 10th of November. I'll probably put my original PS4 into the bedroom, not the best idea for sleep wise but sod it.
To be fair, Uncharted 4 looks incredible anyway. I finished it last night and when I came out of the house onto the beach in the epilogue, I was blown away.
@get2sammyb the pro does remote play at full 1080p they announced it somewhere
What am I missing? All I see are a bunch of images on a television that won't even fill my monitor. 1,280px × 850px
@whoisbdub Sure but if the PSTV only outputs at 1080i then you're not getting 1080p innit.
Look at that plumage!
@get2sammyb yeah your right but i thought that was a vita side limitation not that it cant actually output 1080 in remote play idk i dont have a pstv i just heard the remote play 1080 thing announced for the pro
People overhype HDR and 4k so much...besides truly running some low req games at close to 4k and maybe some improvements to some games in detail or fps at 1080p (maybe, because most developers won't bother doubling their optimization work, only Sony owned studios will certainly enforce these things, it remains to be seen for the rest) it has nothing to offer.
4K didn't become a thing all of a sudden because of PS4 Pro that will still basically be an 1080p machine. Maybe it's because a lot of people don't own a 4K TV and they go crazy when they hear PR say 4K anything, but you'd be amazed at how amazing Sony upscaling tech is. PS4 Pro doesn't allow something which has never been done before, it just also unnecessarily upscales on its own now, as if any 4K TV isn't capable of that. The few games that will run at 4k (and there will be very few with the kind of power Pro has) are not the rule, they're the exception. 1080p games are crystal on 4k TVs even on PS4 and you'd have to be sitting 20cm away from the TV to notice any differences from a true 4K signal sent by a PC without the highly demanding smoothing settings available in PC games.
As for HDR, that's also a thing people hype way too much, as if it's such amazing tech and they need to sell their house to get it... HDR is a minimal improvement. Why is it a minimal improvement? because almost any decent 4K TV has outstanding color reproduction, brightness and contrast, more than is comfortable for your eyes. What has more than a minimal impact is HDR on a 6K$+ AMOLED TV, which few can afford because that's also what the PR departments tricked average consumers with, every time they showcased HDR with non HDR screens with a hint of color settings bias to spice things up for HDR panels.
It reached a point where people believe they're getting something out of this world, the next step of evolution, a revolution in digital imaging, if they spend that mere 1-1.2K $ for a TV that has HDR, which is simply bs (while these TVs would be decent compared to the 1080 garbage that is still dominating the market, they're a far cry from the HDR showcased on TVs that cost as much as a car) and I believe websites like this should keep it real and inform the people of how things really are, not jump in on the misinformation bandwagon just for the sake of sensationalism...sensationalism brings a few more clicks, integrity and quality information makes a community of dedicated readers.
The reality that nobody from the press seems to like to point out, is that Pro only brings a bit more power (they might advertise 4tf graphics power, but it certainly won't shine due to Jaguar) to stabilize the fps and to maybe ad a bit more detail while still maintaining the desired fps limit, no more no less and that is the only reason why anyone should be getting a PRO if that's what they feel PS 4 isn't providing.
What about some animated games ? Would animated games looks better in HDR ? I would like to see some KH3 and the new Crash Banditcoot remastered with this tech.
