We said earlier in the year when it was rumoured that Sony would launch both PlayStation VR and PlayStation 4 Pro this holiday that it would have its work cut out, and it's clear that the company's putting in overtime right now. Fresh from what appears to have been a very successful virtual reality release, the organisation now finds itself weeks away from rolling out the first ever iterative hardware model.
It spits in the face of commentary from armchair analysts who are convinced that the platform holder's standing still, but there's an argument to be made that it may be trying to do too much. Indeed, since being revealed on 7th September, we haven't really learned a lot more about the PS4 Pro. System architect Mark Cerny recently held a seminar for a handful of games media figures, but that's about all of the coverage that the souped-up console's received over the past few weeks.
Given the muted launch of the PS4 Slim, it seems like a mistake for the manufacturer to be this blasé about its brand new box – but it also feels like it's stuck between a rock and a hard place. This is evidenced by the firm's inability to reassure those without 4K televisions that there'll still be advantages for them – it's almost like it doesn't want to irritate anyone. But with Microsoft eagerly flaunting Scorpio at every opportunity, shouldn't it be being a little more aggressive right now?
As such, with the PS4 Pro's release fast approaching, we want to know what information and media you're still craving for the console. We'll use the poll results to prioritise a series of articles outlining what you can expect from the appliance – and we're hoping that Sony will also be paying attention as well. Do feel free to get a little more specific in the comments section: what would sell you on PS4 Pro this point? What details do you think the Japanese giant has glossed over? Let us know.

Will there be PlayStation pro only games.
@Bhattiboy No, there won't.
I'm keen to see how it helps with VR stuff but more than anything I'd like to know how noisy it is (or hopefully isn't)!?!
Ps4 pro is like iphone "s" upgrade, so I don't have many questions for it, it's just like ps4 but have 2x the power.
Haven't bought yet in case of system+game bundles so would really like to hear news abou that.
Just want to know how much benefit (if any) for those that don't have 4k TVs and won't be upgrading to one for some time.
I've been considering a second PS4 for another room and of course would buy this one if there is much benefit. I know it would be good if I do get a 4k TV in the future, but that could be far off for me. I tend not to upgrade TVs until I actually have a need for a new TV.
It just seems to me that maybe with the launch of Pro and VR being so close together they're trying to give each one as much breathing room as possible. I suspect there'll be of promotion closer to launch but even now the information is there if you look for it.
I was reading the recent Mark Cerney interview and the architecture is very clever so don't be fooled by the modest 4.2 teraflops as it'll be punching way above its weight. The only thing I am curious about is what Naughty Dog are up to with their patch because Mark mentions they aren't using the much vaunted checkerboard effect
How will this improve framerate in games? Will games need an update to have improved frame rates?
@carlos82 I got (and am still) stuck in TLOU just before the David bit, then downloaded a digital version and the saves don't work. So I'm well up for a new version to start again. I don't mind paying multiple times vs hours enjoyed. I would rather start over with the best experience. than with the one I have currently, so hopefully it's really 4k native.
That said, I think there needs to be clarity on what benefits it will bring to those os us that have the PSVR. There seem to be a few now saying that there's little to no difference, developers coming out and saying there are no plans to incorporate the technology - or they flat out aren't doing - which worries me as an early adopter of both. (Dirt Rally, no news; Project Cars, canned) for example. It and the PS4 Pro need explicit support.
@Muertoweirdo games out before a date in October that I can't remember, don't have to do anything. All games following that date need to offer something. However, games released prior are obviously reluctant to put dev time into something that may only sell a fraction of what the original version of the game made. That said I'm pretty sure the 13th Oct PSVR releases fall after Sony's deadline, so it will be interesting to see what happens. I have one on pre-order.
What game will be bundled with it? Nobody sells hardware in 2016 w/o a game being bundled with it.
I think they will bundle RotTR w/ it, which is why they haven't mentioned it yet, want to sell as many copies as possible this week and next before announcing the pack in. Which is kind of slimy of them, but business is business.
And as much as I enjoyed my PSVR demo on Saturday - I'm a preaching convert, try it people if you can, it is the future - I'm still leaning towards a 4k HDR TV instead, I enjoy my sports and movies too much to limit all of my disposable income to a headset that's really designed for first person "experiences". I don't like to play FPS. I'll take Uncharted, Tomb Raider, Horizon, God of War on a 60" tv please.
4k HDTVs are getting cheaper people.

The only thing I personally want to know is that will there be a crash trilogy bundle?
PSVR performance is the only thing that will persuade me to upgrade but to be honest I am waiting for the Switch pricing as my next year purchase.
PSVR is the big subject for me. What, if any, are the improvements to my new piece of kit. I know it's not going to improve the graphics of games currently released, but what does it improve. I'm guessing a more stable system ie frame rate. But outside of that I just don't know.
@__Womble9 +1 from me on that - even if the pro could improve the PSVR experience, I would rather get a slim if the pro's noise is equal to the original hardware.
@Drawfull TLOU will most definitely be 4K native, it'll only be new games which likely won't be but for the most part we wouldn't be able to tell the difference. I'm waiting to play Tomb Raider for the exact same reason, TLOU is amazing and I'll probably play it again.
Yeah I agree the VR benefits have been unclear, I suspect that there won't be many upgrading VR games as the display can't take advantage of the resolution bump and HDR. This may change at a later date but everything I've read points to developers not taking advantage of it. It could just be because all VR owners have a standard PS4 at the moment and they'll wait until that percentage swings, hopefully this will get clarified.
@Muertoweirdo yeah they'll need a patch as half of the new gpu will be switched off when playing standard PS4 games so there'll only be the slightly quicker cpu which may give slight improvements.
VR!VR!VR! Thats all I need to know. I no many developers are optimizing their games through supersampling. Is better tracking even possible through the Pro (although I think a better/higher ISO camera would be preferred)?
@Muertoweirdo That's a good question. When the Xbox One S was released, there were reports of improved framerates in games that hadn't been updated at all; they simply performed better due to the increased power of the new console. I'm intrigued to know if this will be the case for PS4 Pro myself.
How it improves gameplay on 1080 sets. On FF15 in particular, if you would be so kind Would be good to run the 2 demos on it and see if there are any frame rate improvements as a result of the better hardware. I know the demos arnt the final builds but would be interesting.
Will current games perform more seamless as in faster loading during gameplay?
Im still entertaining GAME's offer half price trade in offer because the opportunity to get the most powerful PlayStation yet at that price is always tempting. But I'll need to know various things first.
1. How much improvement is there on 1080p TV's?
2. Do games runs better with and without Pro patches?
3. Will it have the same size HDD as the standard PS4?
And 4. Does the system run quietly enough?
http://www.theverge.com/2016/10/20/13350476/sony-ps4-pro-mark-cerny-4k-games-psvr-graphics
In an interview with The Verge, Mark Cerny says that in about three years, the current Playstation 4 might become obsolete.
It wouldn't be a Sammy Baker post if he wasn't constantly trying to inject fear and doubt into his readers minds. Is this buzzfeed? I waiting for the day he urges everyone to sell their ps4's for an Xbox.
I recently had a friend ask me if he should get a pro. He already has an X1, doesn't plan on getting a scorpio or 4K TV anytime in the next three years. He also has a very tight enclosure for his consoles. I suggested him getting the slim, and spending the $100 he would be saving on an extra controller and psplus, or waiting until black friday for a package slim deal. The pro is very much an unnecessary half measure, coming way too early and offering something that will be outclassed in months.
Will it enter orbit when the fan kicks into gear?
@madrox1030 Yeah he's a massive Xbox fanboy, that's why he dedicates his time to a PlayStation website. Makes total sense!
This may seem crazy (and slightly off topic) but I've been into the electronics sections of both Sainsburys and Tesco recently and Neither had a 4k tv on display. So what's the deal with that?
Sony as well as its doing financially have made an error of judgement here. They will create a gap between the haves and have nots. We are console gamers predominantly as its a cheap form of entertainment, yet I'm being forced to contemplate buying a 4k tv, pro, psvr and all the extras or face being marginalised and behind the times.
We need some proper answers.
Well I brought a 4K TV with HDR so I'm definitely going to check out the PS4 Pro and Skyrim special edition and Native 4K I'm ready!
Will Sony give me one for free?
@madrox1030 You come across like you have some sort of grudge against @get2sammyb My experience with push square has always been a positive one. From their news to their reviews, from their videos to their community interaction. Each member of staff is friendly, helpful, respectful of others views and tastes and open these forums to us to talk openly and debate whatever topic is in the news. For you to pick out Sammy as some clickbait junky is immature and unnecessary. I come to these forums to discuss whatever topic is bought up with similarly minded folk who share a love for gaming. Sorry for rambling on, it just annoyed me that you'd single out someone in the way you did with no actual justification. Rant over.
Will existing games have a more stable framerate?
What's the largest capacity hard drive I can use with the pro? I currently have a 2TB installed in my ps4 and it's almost full. I also have a number of games that I haven't installed yet
@blakey78 he's just jelly
@kyleforrester87 lol 😁
1 VR improvement
2 exactly which HDD are compatible
3 benefits for 1080p gaming (not 4K)
How many GB's are available out of the box? I know it says 1 TB but that's before the default stuff is on there.
There should be a 2 TB model. shakes fist
See I'm not interested in VR at all so wil the PS4 Pro be worth it to me as I have a 1080 Tv and not 4K, haven't pre ordered as if I'm honest the scorpio really had got my attention!
"How visuals will be improved on 1080p televisions" because Mark cerny was quoted saying the PS4 Pro will disable half the GPU hardware to remain compatible with old titles.
1. So how will all games benefit with the pro?
2. The games that have scalable options what will they look like? like a resolution options, similar to last of of Us remastered or like PC games with video settings?
@wittypixel There is two modes PS4 & PS4 Pro mode if a old game has been patched it'll use the PS4 Pro mode, if your on a 1080p TV you'll be getting things like Super Sampling and improved frame rates. The new Tomb Raider has three different modes you can choose from in the options menu, 30fps 4K, 30fps improved graphics 1080p & unlocked frame rate 1080p.
@banacheck I know all about the new features and modes. I want to see a picture of what it will look like.
Hi. I would really like to know if we can just insert our ps4 hard disk into the pro. I have a 2tb hard disk in my ps4 and more than 1tb of data on it, so the 1tb hdd of the pro won't do. Also I want to keep P.T. On my system so redownloading everything if I have to format the hdd once before I put it into the pro isn't an option either.
Couldn't find info on this yet.
@MadAussieBloke hmmm. I can only hope that won't be the case. But it is likely as you say. I'm not planning to have two ps4s lined up next to each other, plus all the vr stuff, headphones, controllers, charging stations etc. is all starting to take up too much space. If I upgrade to the pro, my current ps4 will have to go. As I don't have a 4K tv right now I'm not in a rush. Maybe I will just have to do the old fashioned backup to an external hdd, format the 2tb hdd, put it into the pro, and then load everything back from the external hdd.
A nice list of supported games with features would be nice.
@blourf I was at the psvr tour event in Glasgow. I asked that question as I was more interested in the ps4pro than psvr. One of the Sony reps said that you can take your old hard drive and put it straight into the pro and everything will run automatically
@banacheck Ech. If Bloodborne gets a patch I'll consider it..
@eddibhoy That's great news. Thank you very much for sharing!
@rjejr " a headset that's really designed for first person "experiences". apparently it has "nothing to do with 1st person ......not my words.
https://www.pushsquare.com/news/2016/10/video_getting_uncomfortably_close_to_schoolgirls_in_summer_lesson_on_ps4#comment3673296
I want to know if they're just going to do this again in a year or two's time.
@Bhattiboy Yeah, well, that person is wrong, its all about first person. It is first person as first person can get, there is no other explanation. I'm going to go have a little chat w/ Mr. Bad_Mutha now and see what he's on about.
the o.g. ps4 has a maximum drive height limit of 9.5mm meaning it currently has a limit of 2tb. i have no idea what the slim height maximum is. i'd like to know if the ps4 pro allows 2.5 inch drives with a height of 15mm allowing for 4tb spinning hdd's - or the baller 15.6tb ssd if that's how you roll since it's also over 15mm.
Wrist i mainly need to kno is will tube prop system software be available at its launch so ican swap both systems HDDs and have my 2 TB in the pro? And though I'm sure it will be quiet enough though im already sure it will!
