Following confirmation that Shenmue III is about to enter full-production, developer Ys Net has released a brand new batch of screenshots showing off the upcoming sequel. The studio still seems coy regarding actual character models – the early images of Ryo Hazuki and Shenhua looked all kinds of wrong – but these do look pretty.

In the pictures we see a traditional, Chinese-esque building, as well as Ryo's trainers next to a toy forklift truck. The last shot is a bit more revealing, showing the protagonist battling with some bad guys. It's still very early days and it's clear that there's much, much work to be done – but we can't wait to see the dev's progress over the coming months.

I'd love to get Shenmue 1 & 2 remakes before this comes out to catch up on what I've missed.
What are the chances you think? Slim or likely?
@Dodoo SEGA's indicated they want to do, but licensing issues appear to be the primary hurdle. Personally, I believe it will happen at some point.
@get2sammyb Cool, I'll keep my fingers crossed then!
@Dodoo
I keep asking for that in every Shenmue 3 article here. Change in-game brands if you need to but give me these.
Pics are looking good.
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi Yeah I hope you're right, that's a good idea.
It's been so long it'd be worth adding that anyway even for people that have played the first games as a refresher...
I never played Shenmue 1 long, mainly because Disc 2 was broken so I couldn't proceed, but ... is Shenmue really so necessary for the fans now that Yakuza is slowly invading the West? Or are they totally different games?
There's definitely some room for improvement, but they're not bad as is.
@Nickolaidas They're quite different really. There are similarities, but Shenmue has a unique vibe.
Also, I think most Shenmue fans are engaged with the story and want to see where it goes.
I'm interested, but only if Sega re-releases the first two games.
I gave my contribution to the kickstarter, hope it can live up to the originals but it is a hard task! I have faith in sea giving remasters of the first two
@Bad-MuthaAdebisi
Agreed. When Yakuza 3 released it included the key cinematics of 1 and 2. I think the KS mentioned something similar. It doesnt compare to actually playing the games, but it is something.
@Nickolaidas Ryu Ga Gotoku is more spiritual successor. It takes much of the narrative (including side stuff) and fighting queues from shenmue but the themes are wildly different. Even with the Samurai spinoffs of RgG. Plus Shenmue left off on a cliffhanger.
They need to make a Shenmue 3 on two players
