Final Fantasy XII: The Zodiac Age may already have its Trophies in Sony's system, but it's not releasing anytime soon. Square Enix announced as part of Final Fantasy's 30th Anniversary event today that the PlayStation 2 remaster will release on 11th July in Europe and North America, with a Japanese launch a couple of days later on 13th July.
Many fans had expected the game to get a surprise release today on the PlayStation Store to coincide with the abovementioned event, but that hasn't panned out. Still, this gives the publisher more time to detail the title's improvements, which include high-definition visuals, rebalanced gameplay, and an overhauled job system.

Wow, I really was expecting it sooner. But there are plenty of games to play in the meantime (Persona 5 and Horizon are two notable RPGs that should keep us going, no?). I'm really looking forward to playing Final Fantasy XII again, though.
Cool, though I did think we'd get a release today or this week. Still holding out hope I might get to play FF9 HD on my PS4 today!!
I thought this was garbage town the first time I played it. I'm still considering giving it another go.
@johncalmc I didn't take to it the first time either. It just wasn't what was expected of a FF game at the time. I then played it a couple of years after it launched and fell in love with it, and now I look back on it as one of my favourite games in the series.
With the Trophies already on PSN, a surprise release was seemingly on the cards, but come on - this is Square Enix. Surprised it's not 2018.
@Jake3103 I'm not convinced that playing it again is going to change my mind, but I also didn't like X when I first played it and having played it again I like it a bit now. So I'm willing to give it a go.
Hey that's fine with me. Plenty of time to get through some of my backlog. I still have yet to touch FFXV besides the tutorial!
July?! I wasn't expecting it to be that long off. P5, Horizon and maybe probably ME Andromeda should nicely fill the gap until then.
Best off as so far that time of the year seems quieter compared to this years quite hectic schedule of releases.
It's very timely. We have Mass Effect and P5 tob play before.
Please square give me 5 & 6 playable with their original graphics but on HDTV...Earthbound looks amazing on the WiiU VC
@johncalmc its much better second time around all the characters bar vaan and peneloe are great. Initially the fact it was an mmo esque single player game did it a disservice. But play around with gambits and get stuck into the story as its very good! The writing is first rate and the voice acting is decent too.
Gutted!! I really wanted to go outside this summer! Oh well, maybe next year....
Now I've got atleast one major game to buy every month until atleast July π₯
Cool I liked 9 and 7 and when 12 came I was very happy the Battle system was perfect .
Can't wait to get back down in the sewers with the peasants back home.
Was hoping sooner, xii was may favorite until xv, last summer I found xii disc and strategy guide in the trunk of my car and hooked up the ole ps2 and played the crap outta it π
Too many RPGs coming this year..... π΅
@kyleforrester87 I was hoping they would have announced FF9 HD for PS4 during the Final Fantasy 30th Anniversary but no such luck
I'll probably wait for it to drop in price a bit, but I'll definitely pick this up at some point. XII was, far and away, my favorite PS2 FF game, and it was very easy to invest 100+ hours into it.
FFXII is one of the handful of games that I own, but have never beat. I hated Vaan so much, I just couldn't get past it.
May pick this up again digitally a few years down the line. Don't want another disappointment on the shelf- I have got the original for that.
Still waiting for that FFXIII trilogy collection Square...
July release means I may not get to play it for a while, but I'll be aiming for a day one purchase nonetheless.
Great news. Never tried it so I'll get to try it finally.
