Final Fantasy XV's getting a free PlayStation 4 patch on 24th January which will add some new features, including a so-called "self-photographing" mechanic which will allow you to freely take snaps outside of battle. This means that rather than rely on Prompto's clumsy Canon control, you'll be able to point his lens wherever you like – just remember to ask permission from Cindy first.
Other additions include access to the Moogle Chocobo Carnival, as well as some new photo frames and festive clothing for Noctis. Everyone will be able to claim the Choco-Mog Tee, but you'll need to have stumped up for the title's Season Pass in order to unlock the Festive Ensemble. You'll also need to make sure that you've downloaded the relevant Holiday Packs from the PlayStation Store.

Really? This update has to come out the same day as Yakuza 0 (I think?), Resident Evil 7, and Kingdom Hearts 2.8? God, what a day.
@sajoey Correct!
Can we save more pictures because I've long since filled my quota
@carlos82 This is also my predicament. I filled my album up long before the end of the game.
@ShogunRok So we never get more than 150 photos? I was hoping it would expand as he levels up. I'm up to 115 and I'm only up to chapter 5 or 6, getting ready to take Iris to Caem. And if they are giving us frames and the ability to take our own photos, well I'll be taking photos all day every day, so many cool creatures in game. (IRL I'm one of those people who spends a lot of time in zoos taking way to many pics of the animals. Video too if they happen to be awake and moving, a rarity.) So 150 with a carnival coming up isn't going to cut it. I'm OK if they limit sharing, Miiverse is 30 posts per day, b/c I don't share anyway. But 150 just really isn't going to be enough. Season pass holders should at least get 500, I think I can live with 500. :')
been taking my own pics for ages anyway, find a spot turn off the HUD and take a screenshot
@rjejr nope 150 is the limit,i reached it ages ago so i have to keep deleting pics now
Do we now what is this Carnival thing?
Anyway just defeated all the "Menace Beneath Lucis" monsters and also got the platinum. The only thing I am missing is a complete fish collection and the fish sidequests are the only I cannot do. I don't now why I suck on this minigame so much.
I'm still waiting for the patch to fix the frame pacing.....hope will be soon
I wish the in game pictures weren't such low resolution... hopefully part of the update lets us export the pictures in full 1080p or 4k from the album to the share library.
Did they removed that previously free Holiday Pack DLC from the PS Store?
@FullbringIchigo "nope 150 is the limit"
Well that's lame. Hopefully if they are going to let us take our own photos at will they'll up the limit. Maybe theres a crusade on twitter I can go join, FFXVEN is fairly active. And there's still like 5 or 6 things they owe season pass holders.
@rjejr you can take snapshots (hold the share button) and even turn the UI off buy yeah I wish they incremented the max number of Prompto's pictures, it's one of the most endearing features of the game.
@FullbringIchigo @rjejr @ShogunRok @carlos82 I had always wondered if people actually saved the pictures that Promto took, since I deleted every single one (I don't really see a point in storing arbitrary game photos). I guess you answered my question. The only one left is why? I mean I enjoy the game a lot, over 60 hours in and still not done, but pictures? I don't get it.
@thedevilsjester the same reason I use the share button regularly, I just like to look back on shots of the games I've played and Prompto's pictures have a lot of personality in them. Also if you haven't finished the main story I suggest that you start saving some of his pictures, you'll see why
@thedevilsjester Yep, it's like @carlos82 says, looking back on them makes me remember parts of the game that I enjoyed. I have a ridiculously good one where Noctis is midair fighting a boss, for example. For me, adds a little more flavour to the adventure.
@thedevilsjester just like @carlos82 said you will need to save some for later on and like @ShogunRok they represent memories of your Journey for you to look back on and just adds to the whole Road Trip feeling of the game
@thedevilsjester I'm different than most gamers, I'm playing FFXV while my wife and 2 kids watch. Well they are more like very vocal back seat drivers than just watching really, but I digress. Looking at the pics and deciding which oes to keep and which ones to discard is part of the enjoyment for us. I'd say out f every 15 pics Promoto takes 10 are worthless, 2 or 3 are good and 1 was great. So it's like when my kids open a pack of Pokemon cards looking for the good ones.
I do see your point, why keep them though?, but I think if we just deleted them all w/o picking out the best ones to keep there wouldn't be any reason to look at them. And if we could keep them all then there woudl't be any reason to look at them all either. So while I woudl prefer 500 rather than 150, and while we may never go back to look at them ever again, picking out the best ones to save is fun for my family. But again, my family is very weird. In real life we probably have 500 pictures of fireworks, nobody ever wants to look at them, not even us, but we just feel compelled to always take pictures of fireworks when we go to see them, go figure.
@carlos82 Interesting, I stopped playing right before going off on the final leg of the game, waiting for all the DLC to drop so I can enjoy all of the content before I platinum the game. Other than extreme wierd or amazing things, I don't see (much of) a point in the share button either. Its great to have a "OMG did you see that!?" moment, but just regular BAU game play?
@ShogunRok I understand the "few amazing shots" and I am fully on board with you there, but as much as I love the game, there are not 150 of those! There have been a couple images (maybe 4-5 over the course of the game) that I thought were pretty interesting, but not 50, not 100, and surely not 150!
@FullbringIchigo I am not really in to the "road trip" feeling, it was the part of the game I liked the least. I also have memories of my journey, its my trophy list (which interestingly enough automatically takes pictures of when you achieve the event)
@rjejr I generally play the same way (with wife and kids watching like a movie), so I understand that. I even understand to a degree "picking out the best", I just don't really understand the "saving them" especially to a degree that 150 is just not enough.
I am not saying any of you are playing wrong, I just don't understand the desire for taking pictures in the game, let alone the idea that 150 slots is not enough!
@thedevilsjester "I generally play the same way (with wife and kids watching like a movie), "
How goes your FFXV progress, still holding out for the DLC? I was planning on holding out once they announced the patch March 28th but I lack willpower and now we're in the middle of chapter 13.
Funnily, I also started chapter 13 w/ my wife last night in Uncharted 4. My kids aren't watching that 1, waiting to play it themselves some day.
@rjejr Yeah still holding out, you can see my progress on my PSN profile trophy list hasn't moved since I got to the end of the game. I have been trying to platinum Divinity and KH2.8 lately, waiting for FFXV to have its DLC.
@thedevilsjester "Yeah still holding out, ... since I got to the end of the game."
OK, I'm confused, are you still holding out in the middle of the game or did you get to the end? Last I read you stopped playing -
"I stopped playing right before going off on the final leg of the game,"
My family and I have been discussing it a lot the past 24 hours so I was wondering what your wife and kids thought if you got to the end.
@rjejr Maybe I may have chosen my words poorly. I am at the point where it says that once I leave the garage I can never come back. Having played every Final Fantasy game before this one, I am both eager to see how it ends, and dreading it!
@thedevilsjester "I am at the point where it says that once I leave the garage I can never come back."
OK, yeah, you are nowhere near the end then. I do think it's not funny though that there are about 3 spots where the game says "Once you leave you can't come back" but they almost seem to always turn out to be lies. Except once.
Good luck. Wish I had held out. For the "finished" game next year or whenever. Oh well too late now, storming to the finish.
@rjejr I am pretty sure this is the no-going-back moment, its in the World of Ruin. Is there any time travel after this point?
@thedevilsjester "World of Ruin"
World of Ruin doesn't ring any bells, so you might be past me. I'm in the middle of chapter 13, do you know what chapter you are in, sounds like it might be endgame.
@rjejr Yes its past that, I thought you were further or I wouldnt have given any spoilers, sorry for that.
@thedevilsjester You dind't give any spoilers, the entire planet is obviously turning into The Last of US. My enitre family has been making The aAst of Us jokes all through chapter 13, even my kids who haven't played TLoU but know enough about zombie apocalypse games in general.
So you really played right up until the end and then stopped, wow that's some will power you have there.
So since you did get that far, was your family as disappointed in chapetrs 11, 12 and 13 as mine has been? It was a great big fun open world until then. Probably didn't help we played the carnival in Alitissia abut 3 nights before we got there in game, so Alttissia was a big let down to us we didn't even see any of before the storyline dragged us along and out of there. Now all we want to do is play Xenoblade Chronincles 2 and talk abut how good XC and XCX were in comparison. My family is all very jaded like me, we all get it from my wife, she has very high standards.
@rjejr Actually my wife didnt like the majority of the first half because it was open world stuff (I am a completionist so I do everything and she gets bored when I run around and quest) and what there was "go fetch me a tomato!" Or "go take a picture". Not a very deep story like TLoU during the first half. She really enjoyed the linear parts of the story but is not happy about how something turned out, that you will see after CH13.
Altissia is a lot bigger than you think, there is even an arena where you bet on and influence fights. The story rushes you right through, but you should go back and enjoy it a bit.
If there were no other good games out it would be hard to wait, but KH2.8, Divinity and Xcom 2 trying to platinum all 3 is taking up my free time.
@thedevilsjester I try to balance out the main story and the side missions, usually the main story chapters happen in a night or 2 and then I spend 4 or 5 nights doing sidequests. And that seemed to be working pretty well, I was about level 40 when I went to Altissia and over my 20 year history of JRPG I've decided about 5 levels over where I should be is good for me, so I didn't really want to level up anymore anyway. Though had I known I might have done a few more bounty hunts, I only did those about level 25 and under. But I never expected chapter 9, 10, 11, 12 and 13 to turn out like they did. It's just insane, it was all so sudden. And I know they gave us Umbra but it seems so pointless now.
Funny enough I made it to the start of chapter 14 last night ' World of Ruin" before I turned it off on the dock. I already knew about going to Hammerhead to meet whoever wrote the letter - still haven't figured that out yet, my family is discussing it - but yeah, almost right on cue. So I guess this is where we part ways for now, I don't want to spoil anything for you.
And I know what you mean about your wife liking more linear stuff, my wife and I do prefer story driven JRPG - TLoU was a bit too scary for her, and I cursed, yelled and screamed a bit too much at some of the annoying parts - but FFXV really went from sort of linear to way too fast and straight ahead. And we still can't figure out why chapter 11 on the train top and chapter 12 next to the train really needed to be 2 different chapters, they are both so short that way. Even combined they are under an hour, the first 8 chapters took me 40 hours. But at least 13 ended well, even if we are all confused now, a staple of Squenix FF games.
See ya on the other side.
@thedevilsjester So I'm at the fence, wondering what to do next, rush ahead and end it, or use umbra to do all the quests? Weird choice. I'm used to this near the end of JRPG, it's just the Umbra thing that's throwing me off, otherwise I'd be going it all first. Guess we'll see, but I won't tell you.
