Time for your biannual groan as we provide you with an update on the Uncharted movie, which appears to be very much back on. Smokin' Aces scribe Joe Carnahan has posted an image on his Instagram page of a finished script for the adaptation, alongside the caption: "Done and dusted. Now the real work begins. If there's a more monstrously cool action script in Hollywood, I want to read it, because this thing is a beast." At least he's confident.
Of course, we all know that this movie will never get made. It's been on and off for as long as this site's been on the Internet, and we have no hope that this script will ever get off the ground. Which must be infuriating if you're a writer actually, but we suppose that's just how show business goes.

The Headline is "move" meant to be "movie"
You should feel flattered, I'm pretty sure they keep this thing afloat just to annoy you.
I would be curious to see it made just to see who they picked to star? Do they go off the reservation to go with a hot commodity like Vin Diesel or the Rock, both of which will have more free time w/ the F&F series ending. Or play it safe with Ryan Reynolds, who has the look and the Deadpool cred. I could live with Blake as Elena. Not perfect, but I could live with it. I can't see them making this with a relative unknown, unless it's a CG heavy film like God's of Egypt from Lionsgate.
Uncharted may be a male version of Tomb Raider, which itself is a female version of Indiana Jones, but I've always seen Drake as more of a thinker like James Bond. Yes, I want big set action pieces in my movie, but I want intrigue and smarts as well. Or they could go the comedy route, the 1999 Mummy movie with Brendan Fraiser was actually really good. The sequels not so much. The 2017 Cruise movie looks like drek.
I give the Uncharted movie a 1 in 5 chance of being good. Everyone needs to be on board knowing exactly what type of movie they are making and play their roles accordingly. If they go in thinking it's just a video game movie it's over before it starts, if they view it as a "Raiders" reboot with comedy, action andvintrigue, it could be good.
@rjejr I've always seen Drake as more of a thinker like James Bond.
Hahaha. I just spat my lunch all over my phone reading that. Nice one, made my day.
Not sure how I feel about this.
The great thing about the Uncharted games is that they're essentially interactive movies. There's not much to gain from making a movie, and you completely lose the gameplay aspect of it. Not to mention that a movie would be much shorter, and thus probably shallower even.
Playing uncharted games is like playing a movie, so I think watching uncharted movie is a downgrade, you can't control nate anymore.
@rjejr After the reboot, tomb raider is the female version of uncharted
@Bhattiboy Don't know what you mean.
I'll make a movie before this one comes out
@rjejr if it was Ryan Reynolds then I'd watch it. Still think that Nathan Fillon would be perfect, but it's not likely.
Robert DeNiro as Sully would be awesome, and it's not like he wouldn't do it. He'll sign up for any old tat these days.
@rjejr now now, don't be so negative. I'd actually be willing to give an Uncharted movie a shot. I mean the game is already like a movie anyways. I've never seen a game so ripe for Hollywood.
@THRILLHOU "Still think that Nathan Fillon would be perfect, but it's not likely."
So much this! I actually came here to say that. Pair Fillon with Joss Whedon as writer or director? Prefection! Though when I think of Sully, I've always imagined J.K. Simmons in the role for some reason.
Never liked the games due to them being too clunky. But provided it's done well I could quite happily sit & watch a movie for a couple hours. David Boreanez would be good
This is what they should have done with the UC IP instead a bunch of mediocre games.
Meh. Love the games but a movie? Meh. Chris Pratt for Drake.
Maybe a Tomb Raider Uncharted Mashup with Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie. Then they make a good one with Nathan Fillion.
J.K Simmons as Sully and Bradley Cooper as Drake, get a decent director and script and this movie would be a hit.
Just make it animated.
wouldnt it be cheaper now send evey ps4/3/vita owner a free movie rental on ps store than keep dragging this on
@Tasuki 😧 That's fighting talk! I take it you're not a fan?
Mark Wahlberg is best Drake.
An Uncharted movie, huh?
So, even more realistic graphics, a much cheaper entry price, and about the same level of meaningful interactivity. I'm sold!
@Constable_What Mark Wahlberg would be the worst Drake.
@itshoggie Obviously.
😂
@Tasuki I loved the games.
It was definitely going ahead since early to mid last year
Joe Carnahan has written and produced some great movies: The Grey, The A Team, Stretch; all films I really enjoyed. Shawn Levy's involvement in Stranger Things just upped my enthusiasm for the film.
The IMDB page has this:
Director: Shawn Levy
Writers: Joe Carnahan (screenplay), Joe Carnahan
After discovering the location of El Dorado, fortune hunter Nathan Drake sets out to find the infamous golden city, as well as recover the treasure left by his ancestor, Sir Francis Drake.
Oh noes. It may turn out bad and what I am supposed to do then? Not watch it?
Wait, that's right. No one is forcing me to.
I enjoy game/movie adaptions but the problem like with all in the past is that it is an adaption of a game. So that cuts out a lot of interest from normal cinema goers.
A movie could work really well but know doubt it'll suck.
I really hope they don't make this into a movie. There has not, to date, been a game to movie that was even remotely decent, let alone good. I understand that Uncharted is "almost a movie already" but I fear that the part that makes Uncharted good will be lost in translation.
@get2sammyb Nope. I tried to get into them but just couldn't. Story wise they are good but something like that I prefer more as a movie then a game.
The games are fine enough, thank you.
@themcnoisy Hahaha, yeah. Drake has nothing on Bond, or on any other "thinking" action stars.
With that, here's my top 5 for potential Nathan actors:
@Sir_JBizzle 1 out of 5 is pretty much the top of my positivity scale, nothing has a better than 20% chance in life of succeeding, I'd say most things are down around 5% or 10%. However it turned out, I'd watch it, I'd have to know.
@THRILLHOU I wanted Fillion back when U2 released, but he's too old and out of shape now, do you watch Castle? I don't, b/c hes too old and out of shape, it's depressing. Even if I'm wrong and he could do it now, they are probably looking at making this a series of 3, 4 maybe 5 films, so better to get somebody younger who can still do it 10 years from now, Filliion will certainly be too old then.
If the Uncharted movie sucks, then I give up. There's literally no easier video game to turn into a Hollywood movie than Uncharted.
