Sony's revealed that it's looking for beta testers to try out the PlayStation 4's next firmware update. In other words, the current-gen system's getting a software refresh at some point in the near future. There's currently no word on what update 4.5 will actually do, but given that it'll be going through a beta testing period, it's safe to say that it won't just be making your console more stable.
North American users can sign up for the beta through here, while European users should use this link instead. You've got until early February to apply.
What are your hopes and dreams for the PS4's next update? Let your imagination run wild in the comments section below.

I think most of what I want has been covered in your recent article and I feel I have said enough times over the years about this too. External HDD support is the ONLY thing I want/need. Anything more will at most be a 'bonus' but not necessarily going to be something I specifically 'need'. The ability to change my user name for example isn't going to affect me or my long term gaming but it could be a bonus feature and lets be honest, how many people are going to constantly change their name - especially if it costs like on Xbox? It may get used once or twice...
Gimme those (H)DD's please, even at 2TB Its starting to creak, I honestly dont know how peeps on 500GB cope!
@gmxs you have to constantly delete and re-install games all the time (yes i still have the default 500GB HDD installed, i could and know how to replace it but just never got round to it)
it's not a huge hassle really apart from updates of course but External HDD is simpler and effectively gives you as much space as you want
PSN name changes please, come on Sony the time is now!
External HHD support is a must now games are getting too big for the Base 500GB HDD doom takes up 70-80 GB that's insanely big
I just want to use my own custom pictures for themes. Would be really cool if we could choose from some animated visual fx to give them some simple motion. Also id absolutely love to have an option that basically makes the UI tiny and or a translucent option so we can see our themes better.
Custom themes, name change and external HDD support and I'll be in love. Applied too, thanks guys!
My dream would be for the "TV & Video" folder to not constantly keep stealing a slot in my most recently opened games or apps list. It's small thing, but it just spoils the look of the ribbon.
@gmxs
A lot of deleting and sometimes re-downloading or re-installing. All I can say is thankfully the PS4 is designed well. If it performed like the PS3 content management would be an absolute nightmare. As it is now, it's obnoxious but tolerable. I still hope at some point, sooner rather than later, Sony gives us external harddrive support.
@gmxs Its horrible, I had Wolfenstein, Witcher 3, NBA 2k16, Bloodborne, wee 2k17 and Uncharted 4 at one point decimating my hdd space. (about 350gb between them) and had only enough space for another few games. 1tb is a must at this point, especially if you like to have a load of games on the go at once.
External HDD please Sony.
I wouldn't mind if my PS4 Pro ran Music CD's. Why the hell it doesn't in the first place?
I just want to store media my ps4. But i guess that will never happen.
