In case you haven't heard, Mass Effect: Andromeda has some rather dire animations. "Par for course as far as BioWare is concerned," you may say to yourself, but based on what we've seen, Andromeda is somehow worse than the developer's previous efforts. Some of it is just downright awful.
Obviously, stuff like this isn't something that EA or BioWare want people to be focusing on before the game launches next week, but once the internet buries its talons into something, it rarely lets go. With that in mind, it's at least admirable that lead designer Ian Frazier hasn't shied away from the issue.
Over on Twitter, the developer was asked whether the dodgy animations would be rejigged as part of the title's day one patch. Frazier replied: "At day 1? No, that ship has sailed. We'll have more patches later on, but exactly what goes into them is still in discussion." There's always a chance that BioWare will attempt to do something to improve the game's animations, but if such a thing's actually possible, then it sounds like it won't be happening anytime soon.
What do you make of Andromeda's animations? Have they put you off the game, or do you think this whole thing is overblown? Don't tell us your face is tired in the comments section.

Buy at day one? No that ship has sailed.
Maybe the crew needed Botox injections for the long journey in cryo sleep
The animations are crappy, but I really don't care about that. I'm a bit more worried about other aspects of the game, although I'm basing most of this on how much I hated DA:I. Prior to that the last Bioware game I played was NWN!
Will hold off for reviews and of course the always important Pushsquare community feedback.
If the animations are that bad, what is it going to say about the rest of the game features? I don't consider myself a huge fan of the series, but I was considering this game until actually seeing it run... what a PR nightmare.
I've heard that the character creator is very shallow. Somehow, BioWare have gotten worse in even that department, too. My face is tired.
The more footage I watch, the more nervous I get about this game. Some instances of wonky animations I can live with, but if this is the case through the whole game, it'll bother me to no end.
Considering bioware previous work is better than this maybe because the people in bioware now is different than 10 years ago? The old talent already resign and the new one is worse.
The girl in Sammy's gif might be the most generic looking character ive seen in a game. Even the NPC's in other games are more interesting.. I know she's just a template for your character but c'mon.. Especially since shes in their trailers etc.. Just a little imagination?
People seem concerned about the quality of the writing and the voice acting seems poor to me. Both are very important for a Mass Effect game as the story and character interactions have always been the best part. Alarm bells are certainly going off. It's not just the rubbish animations, either. The characters are unbelievably fugly. It seems worse than the original Mass Effect and that came out almost ten years ago! This will not be a day one purchase, but I'll wait and see what other people think and may buy it when it's fully patched and half the price.
@mookysam
Agreed, most of those characters wouldnt look out of place in Oblivion. Okay, im being harsh.. Maybe Fallout 4.
This very much reminds me of the fallout 4 mod that gave people super exaggerated expressions. It actually made the game better. https://community.bethesda.net/thread/21308?start=0&tstart=0
I had a good laugh on some of the gifs last night, but the one with cora/gorilla/Connor McGregor killed me. I couldn't breathe.

@get2sammyb "The look you have when you find out they gave away the table you reserved a week ago"
@get2sammyb I think this animation is fine. It perfectly captures that moment when you gamble and lose on a bottom burp.
Guys, stop posting these please. I really want to be able to sleep at night.
I will wait a few months then.
A storm is brewing and Andromeda is headin' straight into it. When it hits the 21st mark, and if my calculation is right, the effect will be massive... mass effect.
I sure hope I'm wrong.
SPOILER ALERT!
All the humans in ME Andromeda are Working Joes. That will be clearly explained with the DLC named The Seegson Conspiracy.
I have this preordered and have been looking forward to it for months but looks very worrying indeed. If this turns out to be another big let down, I will be seriously contemplating hanging up my controllers for good and try and enjoy the rest of my retirement watching movies instead.
Can there be a whole feature on this on PushSquare, pretty please? With gifs and pics etc., it cracks me up every time I see this and I am loving these new pics in this article, lol.
@get2sammyb That is just really unnerving to watch.
Can't wait for this. Animation is a note in the background.
@johnny30 Except when your character is costantly on screen for 2/3 of the game and when you spend 1/3 of the game talking to badly animated NPCs...
Fallout 4 main character moves like a broken doll but you can play in first person and dialogue scenes are rather short and come once every 30 minutes.
@RedMageLanakyn omg 😂
@get2sammyb She looks like random generated character. :/
I also read that while it's still developed BioWare, the majority team are actually new employees which could be reason why the animations are poorer compared to previous games.
Of course this comes out the day after I preordered it on psn smh.
When "similar face" in a FromSoftware game gets more realistic results...
I genuinely feel bad for the BioWare fans. It doesn't look like it'll even deliver on what they like: characters to talk to.
I've never liked their games, so for me it's just "well, this one looks exactly like they've all felt for me: a total mess".
i don't get it, that gif in the article looks normal. am i missing something???
well to be fair it would take a lot of work to fix wouldn't it
still they could have just delayed it a bit to fix it but no EA had to shove it out the door as soon as they could to maximise those day one sales
Well I'm not getting, thanks Pushsquare
@kyleforrester87 Neverwinter Nights was pure awesomeness. The close they came to achieving this was KOTOR and that's about it. The quality fell pretty much thereafter and after they were acquired by EA.
I am a HUGE ME fanboj. Had this pre-ordered a while back......but I am seriously considering a cancelation.
A few odd faces/animations here and there I can take.....but this starts to look really, really bad.
WTH Bioware? WHT EA?
Both need to have seen this, how can either say this is acceptable in 2017?
What i have seen on youtube looks hilarious. Entertaining for those short clips , but i think i would get annoyed ln longer viewing in game play.
Skyrim has lots of ugly characters but they move normal and don't have creepy facial animations.
