The critics will be quick to point out that we still don't actually know what Death Stranding is, but don't let small details get in the way of genius. As expected, Hideo Kojima delivered an eight minute long cinematic masterpiece during The Game Awards 2017, and it's... Well, just watch it for yourself. It's absolutely mind-bogglingly wild.
While we'd be lying if we said we knew exactly what's going on here, we certainly get the impression that Death Stranding is going to have a horror vibe. The voiceover seems to allude to some kind of Big Bang related apocalypse, too, which will likely provide the backbone of the narrative. Anyway, enough of our waffle, just watch it. It's absurd.

MY GOD!
I don't even know what to think of this. It's one of those things that is so absurd that you can't even form a definite opinion on it. It's just...a thing.
It's really hard to understand this trailer or the last 2 at that lol but I'm sure the final product will be amazing. It's Kojima of course.
Even if the game never comes out, at least we'll still have this trailer.
Good thing this year is over in 3 weeks, I hope a trailer comes out that doesn't look like it was made while on a 3 week peyote bender.
I don't know what I just watched.
But I like it.
I seriously have no idea wtf was going on but I haven't seen many video game trailers that have piqued my interest quite like this.
oh my goooooooooooooddddddddddddd
Aliens, guns, ghosts, whales and throat babies! Erm? Why not?
I don't know what Kojima had to drink, but I want some of that stuff right now
This trailer left me more confused than I already was! It was definitely entertaining to watch though!
It was a fancy trailer for sure. Not sure if I needed to see Norman Reedus pregnant with child inside his mouth though.
Real men wake up 3am on a Friday (South Africa) to watch the Game awards and freak out about Death Stranding!! This is going to be a godlike game!!!! Real men also pre-order the super mega ultra deluxe Limited collectors edition!
Please don't let this be a quantic dream/telltale style game.....
Is this a new Pink Floyd's album?
Pretty sure this game is based around the "Prometheus Greek God" legend - The creation/destruction of life ie all the black ink and water, the giant titan we see etc - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Prometheus
Either way, amazing trailer! Cant wait for this to be a PS5 launch game -
@PS_Nation if they did the soundtrack to this- and I'm talking Meddle era, not Division bell era- then it would be GOTY every year for me.
Reckon it will turn out to be a match 3 puzzle game in the end!
Cant see this one coming to switch.
just want to say
WTF
@gmxs Do you want to get hurt? Because that's how you get hurt XD
Great trailer. As for the game? Could be a copy of Angry Birds for all I know.
Half the budget was spent on hardcore drugs. Clearly.
@Reaper210 Hurt me baby, hurt me
I'm quite enjoying this random smattering of obtuse trailers that show us absolutely nothing about how the game will play and give us zero indication of when it's coming out.
Unbelievable. In the absolute best way. Those giant invisible people with the hand-feet creep me the hell out and I can't wait to find out more. Just love how wonderfully obtuse and ridiculous it is. Even if the game was total rubbish (which I'm sure it won't be, of course), it would be worth playing for this kind of stuff alone. It just looks so unique and mesmerizing. Can't wait.
Back off whale, this is MY throat baby.
So when is this in the cinema?
I'd have to admit to being curious as to what it's all about, but everything I've seen so far just makes me think it's going to be another very 'Japanese' game which will be a bit too bonkers for me to have any real interest in actually playing.
A trailer that does not give me any clue as to what the game is about...No thanks.
Welp, Kojima is definitely trying to do something unique.
Meh. Not a fan of super vague trailers that tell me nothing. Sorry I guess Kojima stuff isn’t for me. -shrug-
@dryrain honestly if Kojima wasn’t involved people wouldn’t care at all about Death Stranding. I’m not a Kojima fan and feel the same way. What is this game? What will I be doing? It looks weird, that’s cool but why should I care?
Gameplay first. I’m not the least bit intrigued until we understand what kind of game it is, what the player does, and how good the gameplay is. If Kojima puts out a walking simulator, I’ll still call it a walking simulator.
They've already said it's an open world action game.
After watching the trailer, all I can say is......Can the thumbs up baby be on Smash?
Its really sad that you have to start off by defending this from 'critics'. Yet another CGi trailer, granted it may end up as a cut scene but yet again, still no clue as to what the game actually offers. For all you know, it could be just an interactive CGi movie - press a few buttons here and there - even more so than MGS4 was. That does seem unlikely as it is an open world game but I can't get excited about a game until I know what its likely to offer me as a player.
Games like HZD and Days Gone were open world Action games and their first reveal told me a lot about what I could/can expect from the game.
Granted the CGi trailer was more interesting than the previous ones but it could just as easily been a film trailer. Dead Rising had a great trailer but look how that turned out...
how is that a good trailer for a GAME? A good trailer for a movie? Perhaps. but not for a game. a good one for a game has to contain at least some gameplay, preferably more than half of the trailer.
Twiddling my thumbs until next reveal... Hope it's not an indie artsy type game. Don't fancy coming home from a boring day at work and then use my brain to get lost in some slow abstract game. Fun! Fun! Ftw!
Yep. That was definitely a Kojima...thing.
@manu0 I didn't know that was the rule.
I flipping loved it, it was just so creative and intriguing, I have never seen anything like it, irrespective of medium.
It really was topped off by a cool moment on stage, I thought Norman Redus was supremely cool and awesome and made some very funny comments.
Super, super excited!
@manu0
Sorry pal, but I disagree completely.
I couldn't be more excited and intrigued, that trailer set the scene, it set the mood, it demonstrated that Kojima is finally making the game he has wanted to make for the last 10 years with complete freedom......CANNOT WAIT!
Norman Reedus looked amazing. I really enjoyed this trailer. It's heavy in all sorts of symbolism. I don't care what the game will be like--this trailer can stand on it's own for what it is; a fascinating sci-fi short that asks more questions than give answers.
Now I understand even less about this game.
@Lovespuds um, i don't know if you remember...but there were already two lengthy trailers that set the mood. don't get me wrong, i'm excited for the game too. but it's time for gameplay my friend.
edit: also, if you really believe that kojima now has complete freedom and can spend however much money he likes then you're pretty delusional...he probably has more freedom with sony than with konami but even sony won't let him spend unlimited amounts of money.
@manu0
Yeah, that's fair enough squire. I honestly doubt gameplay is where it needs to be before he shows it, we are still early on in development.
I guess I am just a sucker for Kojima 😁
What's up with the search suggestions at 2:02 in the video?
It seems odd to me that the last two Death Stranding trailers have not been at Sony's own conferences despite PSX been around the corner on both occasions. Also unless if I've missed them, the trailers aren't even available on the PlayStation YouTube channel which you think it would be, been a big exclusive an all.
I LOVE KOJIMA He is always different. All I missed from this Video was the AMAZING Music from the last Video which I just LOVED
Kotaku tried to piece together wtf this is actually about, and hilarity ensued. https://trib.al/NsEcbHW
Woooaaahhhh !!!? Intense! It does seem to have a horror vibe going on which makes me insanely happy!!! I
The giant creature at the 5 min mark, his head is actually a few hands that were moving.
