We'll be frank: it's barely worth reporting on these latest Japanese charts. PlayStation had a very quiet post-Christmas period, with console sales dropping off and no new software to speak of. Only three PlayStation titles stuck around in the top 20: Earth Defense Force 5, Call of Duty: WWII, and Yakuza: Kiwami 2.
Meanwhile, the standard PlayStation 4 dipped to under 40,000 units, and the PS4 Pro fell to around 12,000 units. It's worth remembering, of course, that the post-Christmas period isn't really a time for big sales figures -- every other major platform saw drops, too.
Let's hope the New Year livens things up, eh?

Those PlayStation numbers are fine, I expected worse based on the headline. Monster Hunter should spruce things up in the coming weeks.
I wonder if the people that are worried about Sony's ''monopoly'' in the UK are also worried about the state of gaming in Japan?
23...Xbox One X...japan is brutal
The Switch is selling like crazy. Go Nintendo!
This is like the total opposite of the UK charts, where you barely see Switch games.
Just one new release in the whole chart.
I like how everything was literally cut in half but actually I looked at something more interesting
Over the course of 2017 by a bit over 100,000 units the PS4 outsold the 3DS in sales over the course of 2017 in Japan
Something Everything has a article on it. Also notes that PS4 is super close to 6M units sold in Japan overall... it may look poultry to 3DS’ 23M but still...
Yet for some reason the PS3 sales increased by 50% 🤔 ...
Told about it a month ago...
I want to know who's buying 3DS and Wii U consoles now that the Switch has been out for a year!
