Two Japanese sales charts articles in one week? Are they trying to do us in? The numbers for the first week of 2018 are here, and despite Nintendo absolutely dominating the software charts, the PlayStation 4 managed to rack up some decent figures.
The standard model enjoyed a reasonable sales boost, jumping from 37,000 units to 75,000 units. The Pro, meanwhile, hopped from 12,000 units to 16,000 units. In total, that's close to 100,000 units in week, which isn't too shabby for a console that's over four years old.
Now, we wait for Monster Hunter: World.

Looks like all platforms are doing well.
*Gets down to XboxOneX- 9
Ouch!
This is going to be a big year for PS4 in Japan.
Monster Hunter World, FF7 & KH3 are on track for 2018 (doubt kH3 is).
Really great PS4 numbers this week. Hopefully it can have a healthy January.
Just over 90,000 units is pretty tidy for a console that's nearly four in Japan. Is that purely holiday related or has there been a boost in prep for MHW with special editions? I assume they release when the game released but that special Pro edition released a few weeks ago didn't it.
@toffeecrit I imagine it's probably a bit of both.
It's a funny old set of results when you look look at software vs hardware, i'm sure with off chart sales and digital it's plenty more but those figures have hardware/software at a ratio of 3 to 1.
x box 9 next generation console😇😱😂.hahaha word up son
You people making fun of X but Wii U and PS3 didnt chart so you know who is the king now
Shortages for Switch are truly gone and people are picking up all those old games as if Switch launched a month ago. Even 1-2 Switch and Arms.
No big PS4 release so I wonder what the reason for the huge jump was. Discount perhaps?
The PS4 to PS4pro sales ratio is practically 1:5 and I’ve heard it’s about this 20% figure. Where as the xbo to Xbox is about 1:20 or 5%. I wonder if this is indicative of global trends? Anyone know anything it’s quite interesting as I get the low sales of Xbox in Japan in general but assume the ratio split to be consistent globally.
Huge boost for PS4. Japan gearing up for Monster Hunter World after the latest news and for the upcoming final beta test?
@Dange Monster Hunter World anticipation most likely.
Good shout @Mahe. Release date 26th of January, so it's gonna be a huge month for Sony in Japan if it's already having that sort of effect on sales.
@gingerfrog I wouldn't use Japanese sales to determine anything about the Xbox. It's absolutely dead there.
Good is see the ps vita is holding on. And minecraft for vita is back in the top.
Maybe there an outside chance that legend of cold steel 3 will make it to ps vita.
Xbone x... 9. /gasp....
@sinalefa Arms is brilliant my favourite Switch game. Everyone needs to play that one!
Maybe its just me, but my switch gaming was just a brief fad. Ive found the ps4 to be more engrossing for long gaming sessions. I would take gt sport over mario kart any day of the week. Its only ARMS which Ive played for a proper length of time and just dont understand games likes Odyssey caining it.
@themcnoisy
Lol I am the opposite. For me Arms got old so fast while I have put 35 hours into Odyssey and still have so much to do.
As of late I play my PS4 way more since this December we got so many great games on sale. Still go back to Splatoon and Odyssey regularly though.
