Insomniac Games has been enjoying Spider-Man on the PlayStation 4 as part of a studio-wide playtest session, which you can learn more about through here. And one thing we’ve gleaned from the playthroughs is that the game is pretty long: ex-Crystal Dynamics design director Brian Horton wrote on Twitter that each of his three runs thus far has taken him “multiple days”.
This not only suggests that the title is already playable from start-to-finish, but also that it’s quite large. Obviously it’s impossible to attach a running time based on the limited information we have available, but it sounds like the release is going to keep you busy for a fair few hours at least. The title seems to be on track for a 2018 launch, and hopefully more will be revealed in the coming months.

Notwithstanding RDR2, this is probably the game I'm looking forward to most this year. Last Spider-Man game I enjoyed (despite its flaws) was Ultimate on the Gamecube. Looks like they've nailed it from what I've seen. Hopefully it's not ruined by the same rinse and repeat structure that destroys my interest in most recent open world games.
This game, god of war, sotc ps4, and detroit is my most anticipated game of 2018, can't wait
The main story may not be more than 10-15hrs if played through but this a big open world city with probably side quests, missions, activities to be involved in as well. Things to distract you from the main quest line and keep you busy - all of which adds to the time. It may not have 'multiple' endings but the Devs are trying different things to see if they work properly.
Better come out before Red Dead 2, or well after if it is going to be in my PS4!
@Neolit Hell, no. For me, 5 hours is too short for an action adventure AAA game. It's literally one afternoon. I want this game to take at least 30-40 hours to complete (side quests included).
I’m not opposed to short run times if the quality is high. But for $60 it probably should be a minimum of 12 hours imo. Chances are it is a 8-10 hr main story with 30 hrs of side quests and challenges / collectibles / optional battles, etc.
I echo the sentiment that I hope there is something new to the open world recipe here. So many games have the open map chasing icons.
Arkham City didn't have a huge main campaign, but the game still is really awesome. Of course that I'm not counting the side-quests.
Can't wait for Spider-Man, another impressive exclusive on PS4. ^^
I hope there are good sidequests as well. Spider-Man games haven't had a good track record in that area. Granted, that isn't generally the focus of the games, but IMO, if you have sidequests in your game, you should do at least some of them right.
This is great news. Hopefully it means the game will be going gold sooner than previously thought.
@PS_Nation The main campaign was 14 hours according to the HowLongToBeat website, which would be solid for Spider-Man. It could easily add 20 or more on top of that after packing on the open world side quests and collections. Regardless, I would rather have a shorter campaign with reasonable pacing than a bloated story that drags on for too long.
Def one of the game to get in 2018 for me.
I loved the Dark Knight setup i would love to catch some criminals with sidequest.
As long as it's longer than Ultimate Spider-Man on PS2, I'm good.
