With the end of January rapidly approaching, it finally feels like the year is underway. Here at Push Square, we’ve oiled up our review machine and set it to work, as several big new releases look poised to invade the PlayStation 4. In fact, this may be your last opportunity to work through your backlog. The question is: what are you playing?
Sammy Barker, Editor
I’m on heavy review duty at the moment, although I’m under embargo so can’t really say much more. Apologies for the cryptic tease, but all will be revealed over the coming days.
Stephen Tailby, Senior Staff Writer
I'll be concentrating my efforts on Iconoclasts this weekend in order to bring you the Push Square verdict. It's a Metroidvania-ish platformer with a focus on story, characters, and bosses, with plenty of pixelated puzzle platforming in between. Expect a review within the next couple of days.

I've had Windjammers for some time now, so it might be time to actually play it rather than just think about maybe playing it sometime. I might scratch a Stardew Valley itch which I haven't picked up in a while either.
Jacob Hull, Reviewer
Should it arrive, I’ll be spending most of the weekend playing a game for review. If not, I’m going to spend a bit of time messing around with virtual reality. I picked up SUPERHOT VR on the cheap, and I may also dip back into Batman: Arkham VR to do some of the postgame riddles.
Ken Talbot, Reviewer
I just purchased FIFA 17 and 18. I’m not a football fan, but I am a sucker for a story mode and so far I'm loving the Journey's fresh spin on season mode. I'll also be going back to DiRT 4 to scratch the racing game itch that comes along every few months.
Sam Brooke, Reviewer
I'll be blasting through Kerbal Space Program this weekend, attempting to get my head around rocket science until I eventually disregard everything and build a ship with 10 engines and wonder why it immediately crashes. Yakuza 0's on the agenda too, not to mention PES 2018.

This weekend I will be heading off to ancient Egypt in the form of Assassin's Creed Origins. I have yet to beat the prologue as I am just having to much fun exploring everything and taking my time with this game.
Quite a few of us are on review duty this weekend, then, but what are you playing? You know the drill by now.

kh 1 fm and some more nioh
i'll be having one last Blast on the Dissidia NT beta before it goes offline after that probably carry on with Assassin's Creed Origins
Struggling to get much gaming done but if I do, I hope to finish off Super Hot VR, get some more Mario Land 3d on 2DS and maybe some Witcher 3. I need to complete something soon!
PS4: .hack/G.U. Volume 1
PSVita: Digimon Story Cyber Sleuth- Hacker's Memory & Persona 4 Dancing All Night
JRPG weekend. Also I didn't realise P4: DAN was so story heavy. Over an hour of reading before I even got into any rhythm action. It's great fun though. The P4G cast isn't as bad as I make them out to be... .
Cracking away at Zelda when I can. Happy weekend people.
Shadow Tactics for me this weekend, I am finding it very hard work at the moment. Currently stuck on level 3 ☹️
I’ll be working on getting a few more humans saved in nex machina and improving my scores. Other than that I’ve already had a week off with plenty of gaming. Out drinking tonight so something less stressful Sunday I guess
Finished the excellent Evil Within 2 last night.Over thirty hours and loved every minute of it!
The question is now though,do I start South Park The Fractured But Whole,Danganronpa 3 which I received at Christmas or maybe Daganronpa Another Episode,Hellblade Senuas Sacrifice,Gravity Rush 2,Knack 2 or Uncharted The Lost Legacy?all of which I bought in psn sales
Of course I could always go back and try to continue Resident Evil VII which I Ieft unfinished months ago..
While I decide I'll have a go at I Am Setsuna on the Switch..
@KratosMD I really enjoyed Arkham Knight. I even did every Riddler challenge too before the ending. I think it is unfairly criticised and often overlooked because of the Batmobile. I know the actual missions (whether side or main) that have to be completed in the Batmobile are somewhat repetitive, definitely lacking in the freedom and variety that combat as Batman offers - but just driving around is great. The story is good too and there are a lot of Easter Eggs as well. I think its a great game and much better if you don't do all the Batmobile sections one after the other - break them up by doing other things.
As for what I will be playing, I haven't really decided yet. I have probably too much choice of unfinished games that I want to play and that's making the decision harder.
sniper elite 3 ultimate edition.extremely fun game.word up son
@Wazeddie22 Evil Within 2 was very good. I hope the series can continue..!
I don’t know ... I’m going to start with Persona 5. Feels a bit like I’m treading water since the game is so long, but there’s no denying it’s fantastic art and presentation. Also working through Gravity Rush 2 more slowly now that the server life is extended. Another artistically splendid game. I might balance out all this visual flair and style with Inside if I get color overload.
I belatedly picked up Madden 18 yesterday and I'm currently enjoying the new "Longshot" story campaign. I'm liking it so far even though the gameplay interactions are a lot less umm interactive than I anticipated - not necessarily a bad thing because the story is fun and the choices feel involving.
@Wazeddie22 evil within is one of the best game ever .playa.both are amazing.word up son.you should tried south park.worddd uppp
@kyleforrester87 word up son I agree.one of the best ever playa.there's definitely going to be a part 3 worddd uppp sonnn
Today I'm playing lots of Nier Automata. I may even play it all day!
I spent most of the week getting extra power moons in Mario Odyssey (now up to around 700) but don't feel remotely in the mood to play it this weekend.
Started Gravity Rush so I can move on to the sequel now I know the servers are going to have a bit more life in them. Really enjoying it so far.
I'll be playing the timeless classic, Dragon Quest VIII on the 3DS as well as spending more time in AC Origins' superbly beautiful Egyptian world.
Still playing Divinity original sin 2, such a long game! Will probably get in some golf story, and started a dark souls 3 playthrough last night as well.
@BAMozzy worst mistake I ever made with arkham knight was to stop playing with less than 100 riddles left. I came back 6 months later to finish it and I had absolutely no idea where to look or what I was doing :/
Uncharted 4. Near the end, I think.
Nathan Drake man-crush levels approaching critical.
Probably juggling between Final Fantasy IX and Mass Effect 2, whenever I'm not trying to get Stormy Ascent's relic in Crash N.Sane. 120 attempts so far to no avail.
Street Fighter V: Arcade Edition
Street Fighter V and Nier Automata for PS4. Mario Rabbids Kingdom Battle on Switch.
Child of light on vita and Doom multiplayer on switch. Having a break from salt&sanctuary on vita, not enough time to play, I only play games at weekend due to long working shifts
I'm playing my least favorite game this weekend...work Rotation both Saturday and Sunday. I played a little Lego Marvel 2 already and may try to complete another level this weekend. Maybe a little Mario + Rabbids if I get time too. Only 3 more days till Monster Hunter
I've been playing Uncharted: The Lost Legacy, almost done with Chapter 7 now.
@AnimeGamerFan I thought the DBZ beta's extension ended already?
Im nearing the end of the last guardian. It is utterly phenomanal! I love trico so much. Aside from that, I bought Hellblade in the current sale, so i might have a go on that, which excites and worries me!
Overwatch. Probably some more ESO. And Bastion on the Vita.
Speeding through GTA 4. I lost my save data for it last week, so I'm rushing through it to try to get back to where I was. I was fairly close to the end of the story before I lost the data, so it's a little frustrating.
Also, played the Monster Hunter World beta last night. Nergigante was way too tough for me to solo in the measly 15 minute time limit, but I eventually managed to do it with a team of other decent players after a lot of tries.
Last week I finished my second playthrough of Borderlands 1 Ultimate edition. Now I've jumped on the Handsome Collection and it's soooo good. I'll put in a bit of time on Street Fighter 5 and Gravity Rush 2. Enjoy the weekend!
Lost Legacy here...
Playing monhun beta on ps4, nergigante absolutely murder me when I play against it solo, teaming up with other people gave us a fighting chance but it still really hard to defeat it. Need sleep, its 1 am in here, I'll try to defeat it tomorrow.
Also hunter's bow is my call in monhun
On switch I'm playing double dragon 1.
It has to be the best Zelda and Mario games ever made!
A link to the past and Mario Kart on the snes mini.
Then Im determined to beat Lewis Hamiltons time on the Nurburgring GP course on GT Sport.
Chaos;child on the ps vita. It definitely a sick puppy game. I love it.
And batman season 1 on the switch. Best game i have played on the switch. I love telltale games.
Just purchased FF 14: Stormblood, so thinking I may roll a Red Mage. Leave my Lvl 53 Bard for a while.
This weekend it will be a few rounds of Carcassonne with my son and some adventure on the mysterious Edwards island in the game oxenfree on the switch.
Finally managed to get my hands on a copy of Nier Automata so after finishing the initial ending I'm now in control of 9S.
I'm also back with Nioh. Farmed some stuff for trophies last night so now it's time to jump into the DLC. Oh and those 2 bosses at the same time missions can sod right off.
@playstation1995 @kyleforrester87 Evil Within series has been great and I'm surprised I enjoyed the second as much as I did considering I wasn't impressed with the sequels reveal trailer like the first.I won't be happy without a third game but hey..where's the dlc?I LOVED the dlc for the first game!
And yeah, already picked out South Park as my next game!hilarious so far
Last few days I sunk way too many hours into AC Origins but enjoying every minute of it so far. Just bagged the Circle of Life trophy after 8 attempts. Apparently, Lions don't like the taste of a Phylake 😂😂.
Eventually gave up and dropped a regular guard in front of some hyenas which did the trick. 8 more levels till 40 and anxious to have a go at some mighty elephants and gods 😎
Witcher 3 on hold for the time being. Although an awesome game but AC Origins really drew me in. After Origins is completed I'll dive into W3 and try to complete as much as possible till Far Cry 5 arrives. Still sad the Resistance Edition isn't available in EU!!
@BAMozzy Yeah I loved Knight. Best of the three in my opinion, by quite a lot. And the Batmobile was pretty awesome tbh.
Tried the Monster Hunter World beta — was awfully boring. So that's that.
Playing some Brut@l (amazing indie game) and Prince of Persia: Forgotten Sands (liking it better than Witcher 3 or Shadow of Mordor for sure, which were two I was playing before it). Still on Mario Odyssey here and there, as well — loving it.
Hated the Dissidia beta so I wont buy it. Will be playing SFV Arcade mode (finally) and The Evil Within 2. With a bit of Isaac as usual.
God of War 3 Remastered and maybe some Shadow of War.
@kmo Borderlands 2 isna great game I still.go back to it every so often even though I beat it like 6 times lol. Enjoy the game mate.
Just finished bioshock.
Axiom verge (switch)
Doom VFR
Paranormal activity VR
I finished Uncharted: The Lost Legacy (PS4), resuming where I left off in Ratchet & Clank (PS4) now.
Gravity rush remastered and overwatch. I want to play some vr too if I can
Still playing the craziness that is mgsv and a bit of until dawn. As a relatively casual gamer, loving the ps+offerings that have let me try some games I might not have played before
Okami HD for me. 37 hours in and still a way to go!
Still playing through the beautiful game Okami. About 30 hours into it, game is long but I haven't got tired of it. May finally start the Witcher 3. Going to try and finish Gravity Rush also.
@Rob_230 awesome game, im enjoying the heck outta it.
Just finished Inside on PS4 and I was really, really blown away. What a way to tell a story ! No words, no context, you just have to figure out what the hell is going on. And boy, things are indeed going on. Strange, chocking things.
I was really impressed by Limbo at the time (especially the ending) but I'm sure that I will remember Inside even in ten or twenty years. Yeah, it's THAT good. Off course, it depends of what kind of player you are, of what you're expecting from a videogame, etc... But for me, the game echoed perfectly with my sensibility.
I put it with Journey, in my mind. Same kind of "more than a videogame" experience, for me.
And now, I resumed my play of Xenoblade Chronicles on Wii (the first one), expecting to finish it this time, in order to play the sequel (X) next.
@Gatatog I assume you're talking about the 'Two Kings' and 'A meeting on the other Shore' side missions.
They are really though. I had to come back to them after I had started up a Way of the Strong playthrough for better gear.
The DLC missions/expansions all go up with level difficulty, so grinding some of those earlier missions on NG+ would be helpful.
@LobsterJohnson Yeah, the game's very tricky.
I quit playing it recently after beating the story. I quite enjoyed the tough experience wasting hours to complete a level. But there's that sick trophy to collect all the badges. Figuring myself completing level in hours only to be greeted by a incomplete badge noting that it needed to be done in minutes.
Last level took me 6h and believe the badges wanted it done in 30mins.
My response.... HELL NO!!! 😂😂
Those time badges were a major deal breaker to push for the remaining trophies which were all obtainable.
Batman Enemy Within. Including Batman on PS Plus was a masterstroke. I NEEDED the 2nd season after loving the 1st. The fact that 2nd season is 50% off on ps store sale sweetened the deal! Really enjoying it - its kinda an alternate reality as opposed to traditional Batman too, which im loving.
Trying to knock out all the "?" in Assassin's Creed Origins for the Plat but it's really starting to feel like a chore.
maize its weird but addictive f12017 nascar heat euro fishing
I'll try to play parappa on ps4 when I finish all my assignments
@Fight_Teza_Fight That's good advice, thanks. I played the first DLC mission last night and it was definitely a little harder than the last story missions had been. The boss was a special pain in the butt.
@Tasuki thanks man. 6 times, wow. I definitely want to try the other characters, playing as Salvador on my first run. Hopefully they announce Borderlands 3 soon.
@kmo Lol yeah 3 Times on the 360 and then 3 times on the PS4.
@ToddlerNaruto I'm starting R&C later this week. Bought it in the Januari sales.
It's my first R&C game, can't wait to dive in. From what I've seen it looks absolutely gorgeous.
@JJ-Firl You're going to love the game. I highly recommend watching the movie too, and if you can afford PSNow I think they have the other games.
Either that or get your hands on a PS3.
@ToddlerNaruto Definetely going to watch the movie after I finish the game.
I’m not really interested in buying a ps3 as my game time is scarce and I just love the ps4 too much. PS Now is an interesting application but a little bit too expensive for the limited time I can spend with it. Maybe in a month where I have some more free time...
@JJ-Firl I just checked PSNow, they have the following Ratchet & Clank games.
They're missing the first PS3 game Tools of Destruction sadly, which you will need a PS3 in order to play.
Playing Order:
Ratchet & Clank: Quest for Booty
Ratchet & Clank: A Crack in Time
Ratchet & Clank: All 4 One
Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault
Ratchet & Clank: Into the Nexus
@ToddlerNaruto Thank you! Much appreciated.
@JJ-Firl You're welcome! Worse case you can always watch Let's Plays for Tools of Destruction.
Which I highly recommend playing or watching before A Crack of Time, since Crack in Time is a direct sequel that takes place immediately after the events of Tools of Destruction.
