Fans were disappointed by Shenmue III’s presence at MAGIC 2018 in Monaco this weekend, as Ys Net opted to show an extended version of last year’s awkward Gamescom 2018 trailer instead of all-new footage. The developer did, however, release four new screenshots, which we’ve embedded in this article. The character models are actually looking passable at this point, but they still look like emotionless mannequins.
Many believe that the lack of any gameplay this weekend signals a delay into 2019, but the long-awaited sequel is still officially dated for a late 2018 release. Deep Silver (now owned by THQ Nordic, of course) has been brought on board as the release’s publisher, so hopefully we see a much better promotional plan for the project moving forwards, as it's been pretty poor ever since the title was announced.

the cynic in me says we wont see this, this year i say mid 2019 at earliest, with so little news etc on it.
What in the god damn hell is that first screenshot? What's he doing?
@JoeBlogs
yep! that little kid is creepy and where the hell is he going to put that stick!
@JoeBlogs They are but... I just want to know what's happening. Is it like a Mice and Men moment? He's told the old man to think about the farm while karate chops him in the spine to finish him off?
@ShogunRok It looks like he’s ready to punch an old man right in the back of the head for whatever reason lol.
@shonenjump86
seems a bit of thug beating a defenceless old man and going to beat some young woman with a stick.
@suikoden @shonenjump86 Turns out Shenmue III has gone full GTA.
is it me or does this one look like Ryo is about to off the old guy?
What is this Yakuza wannabe 😂
The characters might look dated but the quality definitely improving. Got to bear in mind that we haven't even had a proper trailer for this yet.
And I don't care what anyone says, that musclebound smiley dude in the last screenshot looks fantastic!
Seem to say it on every Shenmue 3 news story, but this is never ever going to live up to the standards of something like Yakuza or other modern games. It's a bit of a throwback and a sequel to some very dated games. It's one for the purists and those who played the originals. It's probably not gonna be that good, and I say that as a massive Yu Suzuki fan. But I'm desperate to see how the story continues and to rediscover one of my favourite games from my youth.
The characters still look... lifeless
Always brings back memories of my Dreamcast copy bugging out on me. Must have held that job at the docks for about two months. Fun times.
Mixed feelings as usual. I still dont see it releasing this year.
Don't understand all the negative reactions. I find the models have improved immensely while still being in line with the original style.
Have the feeling many just want to see this fail due to unrealistic expectations. All the optimism in the world won't make it release in 2018, but shenmue is something very unique.
Ryo is gonna sock that aged fella because his face looks a bit more detailed.
We just need some Shenmue HDs to come out for the people who didn’t get to play the originals.
@YummyHappyPills Touche.
@RogerRoger The old man's still got his hat on as well — truly extreme.
