Detroit: Become Human, the very likeable PlayStation 4 exclusive from Parisian developer Quantic Dream, has sold one million units worldwide in two weeks. This makes it the studio’s fastest selling title, as it took Heavy Rain five weeks to achieve the same feat. The sci-fi adventure’s already off to a great start in Japan, and got off to a better start than Beyond: Two Souls in the UK – despite data not including digital sales.
“We have just passed the million mark sold for Detroit: Become Human, two weeks after the release of the game,” bigwig Guillaume de Fondaumière told French financial paper Les Échos. “Heavy Rain took five weeks to break the milestone of one million copies. In total, it attracted 5.5 million players.”
Congrats to the team at Quantic Dream – the word of mouth has been extremely positive for Detroit: Become Human, so we can only imagine that number’s going to grow and grow.

Impressive and well deserved. Great game!
I enjoyed Heavy Rain but loved this. I've finished the story and much like my Heavy Rain playthrough many characters died. I'm looking forward to playing it again to get a better resolution. It's crazy the variations of how it can play out. Glad it's doing well.
@BearsEatBeets You're going to have your mind blown. It's by far the most impressive branching story I've ever seen in a game. The permutations are WILD.
Awesome. The more people that play this game the better. It's one of those that I really enjoyed playing through at the time, but I feel like I like it even more in retrospect.
It's still so expensive! Even God of War has had a price cut (though been out for much longer).
Anyway, looking forward to playing it at some point.
Wonder how much Beyond sold. I assume about a million. Maybe a bit more with the ps4 port.
Sony should bring back their platinum collection considering the amount of best selling exclusives
That's great to hear, I'm really happy for Quantic Dream and David Cage.
That's awesome news, congrats to Quantic Dream.
As a Quantic Dream fan, I am very glad the game is doing so well! I am in my second playthrough now!
Good to hear. My game of the year so far.
Nice, already bought it but I'm still playing god of war and dragon crown pro. Can't wait for QD next game on ps5, I hope it's another scifi game
Also, the graphics in this game is amazing, I can't even think how QD next game will look on ps5.
That's pretty good I think. A few million is a given, so it's probably a success in terms of sales. I really like the game so far!
@KingdomHeartsFan no I get that, that's a perfectly reasonable view to have. I kind of have that as well.
Luckily, my memory isn't the best when it comes to remembering plot points (outside of major twists etc) and so I usually tend to jump back into games like Detroit a year or more down the line and replay it as if I was watching an old movie or TV show that I'd seen before.
That way you get a similar experience again and because it's not as fresh in your mind, even if you get some of the same scenes/outcomes again it doesn't feel so repetitive to watch.
@naruball It only been out two weeks? Games as popular as this aren't usually discounted for at least a couple of months.
@naruball How come expensive 20 plus hours and then you still have not seen everything?
Very happy for this. They deserve this. Just finished today and it is 3 in the morning! I really like the game. The branching paths are very deep and the outcomes of choices are unpredictable unlike telltale game. I am sure this game deserved more than 7. Comparing this to telltale games are ridiculous as telltale games are very limited and you can guess the outcome from the choices you made. The story is engaging. I particularly like Kara's as her story is grounded and intimate. The game is not that short if you try to talk and see everything it offers even if you don't replay for another outcome. Well worth the money. Oh yeah I bought GOW on D1 too. Still haven't finished yet. Hope Quantic dreams make another game soon. That will be Day 1 buy for me.
@JohnnyShoulder Well aware, hence my comment.
Still, even for a new release, it's quite expensive. Usually you can find ps4 games on launch day for 40 quid.
@Flaming_Kaiser
What?
@naruball sometimes yeah if you shop around but Far Cry 5 is currently 48 quid on Amazon and Monster Hunter World is 38 quid. Not expensive at all considering how many people made the game etc and the cost of games had not risen hardly in about 15 years.
@JohnnyShoulder
If you go by playtime, single player games should cost far less than Multiplayer games. So bringing up 20 hours made no sense. [my bad, I got you two confused]
As for your new point, plenty of games launch for 40 quid or less on launch day. Detroit didn't, which is great for the developers and Sony, but a bit expensive for some, who will thus wait for a price cut.
@naruball I didn't bring up 20 hours that was somone else.
AAA games such as Detroit do not 'launch' below £40. The RRP is usually between £40 - £60. They may get discounted by certain retailers to below £40 but that depends on the title.
Just out if interest how much would you be willing to pay for a two week old game that has sold really well?
@JohnnyShoulder Apologies for the first part. My bad.
With the exception of Naruto games, I don't buy anything when it launches. I don't mind waiting for a couple of months, even years, considering the huge backlog of incredibly cool games I have (it's ridiculous, really). I usually buy games when they cost less than 20 quid. 15 is my sweet spot.
Detroit, South Park and Nino Kuni 2 I wanted to play at launch but decided against it. I see no reason to buy games I won't play for months.
@naruball Fair enough, you be waiting a few months i think for this to drop to that price.
@PS_Nation
Me too. Colin Moriarty(formerly of IGN & Kinda Funny Games) wrote about the bizarre and unfair persecution of David Cage from certain elements of the gaming press. Some how they seem to think his games are not politically correct enough with Kotaku writing quite a vicious and completely unfair article about the representation of women in his games. I think his female characters are great so have no idea what they are babbling on about.
Anyways I'm glad gamers have supported his work with their wallets.
@Captain_crash199 Wow, I will definitely check this, thanks. Kotaku is pathetic indeed, never liked them. They always attack consoles, but Pc is all perfect according to them.
