The fine folks at Avalanche Studios are certainly keeping busy. As well as co-developing RAGE 2 with id Software, the studio has just announced Generation Zero, a brand new open world action game heading to PS4 in 2019. Check out the debut trailer above.
Taking place in 1980s Sweden, Generation Zero sees you going solo or teaming up with friends to fight back against an evil robotic force. As with all of Avalanche's games, this is open world, and you'll be able to concoct creative ways of taking down the enemies in what sounds like pretty free-form combat.
"Generation Zero is a true passion project," says Emil Kraftling, Game Director at Avalanche Studios. "In a sense, it’s an ominous recreation of our childhood fantasies, playing war in the serene forests of 1980’s Sweden. We can’t wait to bring the game’s tense open-world exploration and adrenaline pumping tactical action to players everywhere."
It sounds interesting, and hopefully we'll learn a little more as E3 2018 gets underway. Are you interested in Generation Zero? Turn that synthwave up in the comments below.

Just double checking, this is Sony's special announcement for today?
This is... kind of Horizon Zero Dawn mixed with The Terminator. Music is inspired by The Terminator for sure ; )
@LieutenantFatman No, Sony's announcing a release date for one of its own games.
Added some screenshots to the article.
@ShogunRok
Ok thanks, looks interesting anyway. Love a bit of co-op.
I wonder why almost every game has to have guns.
Looks interesting - the Prequel to Horizon:Zero Dawn when the robots where more 'mechanical' looking than 'animal' and the world hadn't yet had its apocalypse....
I really hope they'll make a singleplayer campaign, too.
Yay. More open world co-op games.
Did I just read "Open-world", "Co-Op" and "Shooter" all in one sentence?
Is this ps4 exclusive? Console exclusive, or multi?
@MattSilverado haha that's exactly what I thought.
I really liked the underrated Mad Max on PS4 (also Avalanche studios) so this is definitely on my radar.
@Callmegil I think I read that too! Personally, I"m not a fan of open-world co-op because it's generally really hard for me to keep pace with the people I'd play with (someone invariable gets ahead of everyone else, and then increasingly diverging schedules turns it into a single-player game).
This looks like it would be better suited as a level-based shooter (like COD Zombies or Killing Floor 2) releasing at $30 - $40. I think more games need to release at that price with a smaller scope to be a compliment to the bigger, more hyped games (like Avalache's own RAGE 2, for example).
Anyway, looks cool. You can hardly go wrong with an 80's aesthetic IMHO
Interesting, I hope it’s great to play as a single-player game too. Let’s see more details of it.
@MattSilverado I was thinking the exact same thing. Glad I read the comments before trying to steal your thunder
Like the idea of this. I'm a big fan of robots, decades, and Sweden so this ticks all the boxes. If there's robots called Bumbleswede, Starsven, or Bjoptimus Prime I'm deffo in. Day one! Day one I say!
Looks like a cross between Titanfall and that 4v1 monster game that recently bombed. I can't recall the name of it b/c well it bombed. (Edit: Evolve)
Not feeling the robots, they look like something out of the 1980's. After 5 Transformers movies robots should look quick and nimble, not like tanks waiting to fall over. Less AT-AT more Optimus.
Generation Zero Dawn.... meh
Just read this on Gameinformer:
"Enemies in the world will be persistent and the damage you inflict will stay on them, whether you remove limbs or armor. If an enemy returns an hour or weeks later, those battle scars will still be visible. "
...Now THAT sounds awesome! I'm sold on the game now!
@smelly_jr that sounds really good, almost a seller. Both persistent damage and limb removal ; )
That music is really good. Not sure if this is my kind of game, so I'll need to see more of it before I'm sold.
@Nightcrawler71 Mad Max was amazing! I 100% aced that one. More people should have played it!
Damn!! Ill buy it for the music alone!
This looks awesome though! Im super into the singularity phenomena. I hope thats what this is about. Wow im excited!
intrigued no doubt
Isn't Rage 2 being developed by the American team and this by the Swedish one?
Will players get to pilot the mechs?
The music at the end got me interested. Looks like Horizon Zero Dawn, but I enjoyed that game so much that may be consider a theme related game.
This looks like Horizon: Zero Dawn crossing over with Far Cry 5.
I'll probably pass unless you can do single player somehow.
