We’ve officially reached the point where obscure European PlayStation 2 titles are getting the remaster treatment. Microids announced earlier today that it’s bringing 2006’s forgotten Asterix & Obelix XXL 2: Mission: Las Vegum to the PlayStation 4 on 29th November. Bizarrely this will actually mark the second re-release of the title, as it was also rebuilt for handheld platforms over a decade ago.
The platformer, which is based upon the French comic book characters of the same name, pokes fun at a host of video game heroes – including Super Mario, Sonic the Hedgehog, and Lara Croft. It’ll be followed by a brand new game in 2019, which Microids claims will be “faithful to the world of comics”.

Wow! Now there's a character I hadn't thought of in a while!
The Mega Drive game was pretty good. Had no idea Asterix had received a PS2 outing!
Used to love the cartoons and comics when I was a kid but I'm not overall keen on a video game.

I used to love reading these comic books. I always preferred Tintin, though.
Asterix is great. Actually, I remember playing one game which took place during the Olympic games. It was okay I guess.
I remember one of the cartoons had Craig Charles (of Red Dwarf fame) voicing Asterisk, that was quite an experience watching this little frenchmen with a scouse accent lol
3D platformer? I’m in!
Seeing games like this get the remaster treatment allows me to keep hope alive for a Shadow Hearts Covenant remaster.
Apparently xxl3 is coming in 2019 aswell.

Has anyone played this game? I love asterix but this series passed me by back on the day. Last asterix game i played was the semi decent ps1 game. I remember saving up pocket money for weeks to be able to buy it!
@stevenfins Me too 😂 I was little back then and loved it. I think it was called Asterix and Obelix at Olympics.
@YeYa Yeah, me too. I think it was around the time the movie of Asterix at the Olympics had come out.
Well Gaul-ly!
I loved some of the comics. I don’t know about a game for them though. I remember something about a game starring them, but this is as obscure as obscure gets.
