Avalanche has thrown out a new trailer designed to showcase Just Cause 4’s amped up Apex Engine, and it sounds like cool technology. The open world game will be capable of more mad physics than ever before, and it will even boast dynamic weather just to add to the insanity.
This video needs to be seen to be believed, though. The amount of obnoxious edits is unprecedented, and we’re not sure what they add. It’s almost like a student university project, packed with cuts and transitions just because each one earns an extra mark. It's all a bit much.

WTF is this?
My question is, how is this gonna run that much more smoothly on the current generation consoles with their Jaguar-based CPUs with all those 'advanced' physics? To this day Just Cause 3 doesn't run that great on PS4. Hopefully this new version of the engine is really well optimised for all platforms so that there are not as many issues.
Better looking it should be better running. 😁
@get2sammyb "amount of edits"
And here was I thinking you got the difference between "amount" and "number".
I know the video is a bit cringey and dramatic...but I kinda liked it! It's not everyday you hear so many different developers speak, and it seems obvious they are proud with what they achieved...it's cool to see!
Also, I had to fight the urge to pause the video from all they cringey cuts but...oh well lol
That hurt my eyeballs like modern day action movies.
@naruball Haha, that’s a real pet peeve for you, isn’t it? 🤣
@RogerRoger I wonder if any of the cast of TNG looks back at that scene so many years later and thinks 'my God, we look stupid'
Good lord, it's time to stop. Who the hell made this?
I started counting the number of times they said “Apex engine” and then I just gave up when my eyes started bleeding from the millisecond long screen edits.
Watching that feels like being subjected to watching one of those behavior modification conditioning videos from the dystopian future world of A Clockwork Orange.
Somehow I now feel as if I’ve been brainwashed into actually being excited for Just Cause 4.
And pretty sure I’ll be randomly mumbling the words “Apex Engine” throughout the day now.
Had to stop watching after a minute and a half. So many quick cuts you don't even get to see what's going on or admire the improvements. Love the games, but that trailer sucks.
I won't believe it until the game is on my PS4 and it's running at a stable 30 fps without any glitches.
