It’s become part of the gaming fixture list since it debuted in Las Vegas almost four years ago, but it’s perhaps worth pointing out that PlayStation Experience 2018 has not been announced yet. Last year, the platform holder confirmed the event as early as June, but it hasn’t said a word about whether it will be hosting the show this year at all.
In the platform holder’s defence, PSX 2016 was not announced until late September, so there’s still time for it to come out and confirm dates. Last year’s show disappointed many watching from home, as the manufacturer replaced its usual media briefing with a developer roundtable, although the showfloor itself was as stacked as ever, with dozens of titles for attendees to try.
Speaking about potential press conferences at E3 2018, affable executive Shuhei Yoshida said that the organisation hadn’t decided anything about future events yet, and that it wasn’t ready to talk about “other opportunities” just yet. But as PlayStation Experience’s traditional December window nears, we have to consider the possibility that it may not happen this year at all.
We’ve contacted Sony to try and get some clarification on the matter, and we like to think this will be cleared up either way before the month is out. Personally we’ve always been huge fans of PSX so we’ve got our fingers crossed that it makes a return, but unless an announcement is imminent, it looks like the convention could be taking a year out.

I enjoy PSX, but if there’s nothing new to show, why bother? Dreams, Days Gone, TLoU 2, Ghosts of Tsushima, and Death Stranding are all known properties with shown gameplay. Although it would be nice to see more of these titles (and get dates!), I don’t believe that warrants another showcase.
PSX has always been built as a fan event. Even if there's no conference I feel like they should still hold it.
Even if they don't do a conference, they should still hold the event for attendees.
@lacerz Well, as others have pointed out, the main part of PSX is the part where people go to play games. It's like EGX or PAX but for PlayStation, which I do think people online tend to forget.
It's a bit concerning that nothing hasn't been announced yet but it makes me wonder if PS5 comes out next year then they may do a show announcing that instead.
@get2sammyb The thing is to most people including myself, see PSX as a E3 keynote show where there's the expectation that they will announce new things. Last year was bitterly disappointing because they had the chance to put on a great show but because they went to Paris and even the Game Awards PSX, was left with the scraps and that's all people will remember it for.
Even the Sony reps I've personally talked to know very little about PSX this year. The only info I've corroborated with three different sources if that Aneheim isn't the venue this year.
@lacerz you forgot Medievil ! No news about that game so far this year almost positive it said coming 2018 in the teaser trailer .
My guess is no PSX 2018 but Playstation Meeting in Feb 2019 to announce PS5 😏
@3Above Let's see.
@oatmealwarrior92. i know right i been waiting for that game for a while now.one of my favorite games on ps1.word up son
I hope they say something soon because I’ve been losing it since August.
Like many folks already said, PSX is a fan event, I really hope there is one this year even without a traditional conference.
Also, it’s a great opportunity to show and build the hype for the games coming next year, including AAA and indies.
@RBMango Interesting, thanks for the info.
I’d like it if they skip Paris games week so there’s more packed into the PSX keynote. I definitely felt it last year. It seemed like they’d put everything into Paris games week and the game awards so there was nothing left for psx. I live in Australia so the location doesn’t really matter to me. I just love having the game awards and psx packed in together
A point they asked in the Post PSX attendee survey Which asked you how likely you would want to attend PSX if it took place in multiple cities
@get2sammyb You're very welcome.
For what it's worth, I heard from one of them about a month ago that Sony was very on-the-fence about having a PSX at all this year. The reason they gave was that there were very few things they could show. I'm not sure if that was referring to showcase games or playable ones.
@3Above @adf86 "no PSX 2018 but Playstation Meeting in Feb 2019"
That's been my thinking as well, whether PS5 is late 2019 or early 2020 - I'm leaning towards 2020 - there's not much NEW left to show for PS4 so PS5 needs to be announced before E3 2019.

Nice first post, pretty much summed it up.
