It’s the 26th September, which officially marks Outbreak Day in The Last of Us lore. But while we don’t have to contend with the cordyceps virus in the real world, Naughty Dog is commemorating the occasion with a slew of giveaways, promotions, and other updates. Over the course of the day, it’ll release a bundle of The Last of Us: Part II avatars, a dynamic theme, and it’ll premiere the sequel’s theme song.
You can find out more about what the developer has planned through here – there’s still a lot that it’s keeping under wraps by the looks of things. Expect new merchandise and much more – there’s even some speculation that The Last of Us Remastered may make October’s PlayStation Plus update, but we strongly doubt that one. Either way, enjoy Outbreak Day – and remember to steer clear of any strange looking plants.

Release date: 26-09-2019?
@Octane We can dream.
TLOU had one of the greatest soundtracks of all time so can't wait. Just just a pity that when the composer performs a song at E3 people were like "whereas me gameplay bro?"
I got worried that half the people on the bus this morning were zombies but then I just realised they were the locals. All good there.
How did I not know 9/26 was the day of the Coryceps outbreak? Sounds like a good trivia question.
@get2sammyb @Octane how is that a dream? Dream would be TODAY! A year more is too much
@AFCC Indeed! I think it's coming next year, I think they said so? Days Gone in February, Ghost around April/May, and TLOU2 in September. That seems plausible.
@Octane @AFCC @get2sammyb I'd love for them to drop a playable demo of TLOU Pt.II today only and give us a chance to see that goodness running on our PS4s. Imagine the absolute chaos, I think PSN would be torn down for sure.
Sadly, it is only a dream, but I can hope...
All we really want is a concrete release date (start of 2019, we can only hope?!). But a soundtrack would also be pretty sweet!
@Kidfried it would be a great idea, seeing as today is the day. I don't think so though, most rumours on the PS Plus reddit seem to think it is likely to be Diablo 3 and Gravity Rush, which is still a good month to be fair.
@Octane Do you mean Ghosts Of Tshushima? That sounds way too soon.
@hulkie Yeah, Ghost of Tsushima. It was revealed in 2017, and they specifically talked about waiting to reveal the game, to avoid the long wait between reveal and release (this is from PGW 2017):
“I think the right thing to do ... and I think we're learning and a lot of publishers are learning ... there is a right time to announce games,” Denny told GameSpot.
“In the past, I think it's fair to say sometimes we announced games too early," he said. "And this is such a great project for Sucker Punch. It's a game they've always really wanted to make themselves. And I think it's the right time to announce that, and they've been working on that game for a long time now. There is great [playable version of the game] already. So we're just excited to let everybody know about it.”
That's still 1.5 years from reveal to release, still a long time in my opinion, but I think this is definitely what they're talking about. Announcing a game in 2017 and releasing it in 2020 isn't what I'd call ''the right time'' to announce a game if your goal is to decrease the time between announcement and release. Even back in 2015 Yoshida said he had played a version of the game Sucker Punch was working on.
There's actually a countdown on the site which ends around the same time the Plus games are announced, hmmm.
@Turismo4GT that would be almost as legendary as PT...
@AFCC now you bring that up, I wonder how, if the PS5 is going to be backward compatible, how it will keep PT alive, if at all; it can't be downloaded from PS Store anymore, and I highly doubt the PS5 will be able to read a HDD swapped from the PS4 without wanting to format it. This may seem trivial to some, but I think it could be a genuine concern to people who might find themselves with a dead PS4 when they upgrade to the next system.
@Turismo4GT I'm so sad when I remember I deleted PT in fear now pressing the icon makes me depressed since it tells us it can't be downloaded
