@JohnnyShoulder Yeah, I'm a bit on the fence with that. I never got that into the Nightmare films when they came out, though I did watch a bunch of them around a decade ago, but can't really tell them apart. Been meaning to do a marathon with Nightmare, Friday 13th and Halloween to see if any of them need to be on my shelf, but haven't gotten around to it yet
Deadpool & Wolverine (Cinema/3D) - Absolutely hilarious with lots of visceral gory action that really pops in 3D. Trades in plot in favor of being a multiverse cameos & reference fest, but being that it's a Deadpool flick, I don't think that hurts it as much as it would otherwise.
Constantine (Blu-Ray) - Picked this up in a triple pack with Watchmen: Director's Cut & V for Vendetta while thrifting. Don't know much about the comic it's based on, but I thought it was pretty good, albeit it's a genre I'm not personally huge on.
the Last Samurai (Blu-Ray) - One of my favorite films of all time, but I only had it on DVD until now, so when I saw the BD while thrifting I had to grab it. Absolutely still holds up, IMO. I just love a huge epic (whether it be historical fiction like this or the Patriot, or Sci-Fi like the new Dune flicks), and this really hits the spot.
Currently Playing:
Switch - Blade Strangers
PS4 - Kingdom Hearts III, Tetris Effect (VR)
@Malaise I remember liking it, too, though I can't remember a single thing from the movie, so unforgettable it wasn't
The reboot should arrive courtesy of a series on Prime Video written and produced by Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Not sure how far out they are, but last I heard they're looking for the right Lara.
I'm quite a bit drunk and Rebel Moon The Hacky Hack's Cut is on, and apart from it being such a sh** film to start with, it does seem quite a bit different, at least ππ
It certainly has a bunch of tits and caved in skulls, but tbh I'm not really concentrating on it any more π
Having seen Deadpool & Wolverine twice, it was now time for something new. Two new films, actually, screening in the same theatre with just enough time for a toilet break and a refill of snacks in-between.
First out was M. Night Shyamalan's Trap, which falls in line with the rest of his recent output: A not terrible, but highly mediocre timewaster. It had a few moments (Jody's mom!) and while Hartnett was a bit all over the place, Ariel Donoghue, who played his daughter, was very good. The premise was silly and contrived, but I managed to stay awake and wasn't annoyed when it was finished, so... win?
Second movie was Longlegs and that fared a lot better. Properly creepy and at times uncomfortably tense, this was easily the "scariest" horror movie I've seen this year, with great turns from a great cast. Nicolas Cage will Nicolas Cage, and so he does in this movie as well, though the pretty cool makeup let's him disappear a bit, to the film's benefit. It had a few jump scares and most of them were fully earned, with only one or two cheap ones, I felt.
@FuriousMachine I overheard two guys on the train discussing "Longlegs" so now I know the big twist in the tale. Bugger. Hopefully it will have slipped my mind by the time the blu-ray comes out.
@LN78 Damn, that sucks! I went in completely blank, knowing only that Cage played a killer. Managed to avoid trailers, too (and it struck me as the trailers rolled in front of "Trap" that it'd be typical if a spoilery trailer for "Longlegs" ran in front of it, but I was spared )
@Zuljaras
Saw it last night as well. Not sure I'd say it's a masterpiece but it is a really fun popcorn flick. Perfect summer time movie. It was a 3D showing too, I don't always go to those but I think this movie benefits from it.
"Love Lies Bleeding" - after a slow opening act this develops into a really taught and clever psycho-sexual revenge thriller/jet black comedy (the running gag about the difficulty of quitting smoking is very funny) with great performances from Kristen Stewart, Jena Malone, Dave Franco and Ed Harris. With one or two scenes of strong violence (it's an A24 movie), some of the scariest haircuts that cinema has to offer and a couple of excellent, totally unexpected (drug related) digital effects sequences, it comes highly recommended.
Iβm gonna see D&W with my dad this Friday. I hope thereβs tickets. >.>

Just finished watching Megan on SkyShowtime. It's one of the most interesting modern horror movies I've watched. Typically, it's hard to make horror movies these days as there's so much technology around us that it's hard to make the characters feel isolated and helpless. So the premise of this movie is to use that technology as part of the horror and it's absolutely brilliant. The movie is about a life-sized doll/robot that has an AI and is supposed to be the best toy for a child to have. Naturally, things go awry with the doll.
Not only was this a great modern horror movie, but it also taught a valuable lesson. As a parent, you shouldn't hand over your responsibility for your child to technology as eventually, the child will prefer the technology over you. Not to mention that the development of the child can be negatively impacted as well. I see so many parents these days who don't spend time with their children and instead give them devices to play with. It's going to be really interesting to see how the next generation of adults will be like after growing up like this.
All in all, great movie with a fantastic message. Highly recommend watching it.

"Challengers" - pin-sharp dark sex comedy set in the world of professional tennis (although it's about tennis in the same way that "The Hustler" is about pool) with top notch performances from Josh O'Connor and Mike Faist as the former best friends and a merely adequate one from top billed Zendaya (I'm still not sure what the big deal about her is) as the girl who comes (no pun) between them. Another superb EDM Atticus Ross/Trent Reznor soundtrack is the icing on the cake. Really, really good.
