@FuriousMachine As in Buffy, Michelle Trachtenberg? Oh gosh that's awful.

I think police have mentioned the situation with Hackman and wife is 'suspicious enough' for an investigation.

@PeaceSalad Yeah, little Dawnie. Very, very sad. The cause will remain unknown as the family has denied autopsy for religious reasons, but she recently had a liver transplant and there may have been complications. Police are not treating it as suspicious.

The Hackman thing, though. Really weird. My first thought was poisoning through a gas leak or something, but it seems the gas company has found no issues. Anyway, also very sad. Will re-watch "Crimson Tide" this weekend, which has one of my favourite Hackman performances.

@FuriousMachine @PeaceSalad The Birdcage is on of my faves with Gene Hackmsn. Hilarious.

That Gene Hackman news is awful and is starting to sound even worse than was intentionally reported. I think my favorite film of his would be Mississippi Burning, it tackled a really seriously topic in a really genuine way. I think it was one of my first introductions to racism, the concept just didn't exist to me, it still sounds nonsensical. I liked him in The Quick and the Dead too, it's not every day you see Sam Rami direct a Western and like you'd expect it doesn't take itself too seriously.

@FuriousMachine @JohnnyShoulder Both excellent choices, The Birdcage has some incredible performances in it. I really like Night Moves too, a real slow burner. I think now might be the time to finally pull the trigger on that 4K of The Conversation.

@GirlVersusGame I haven't seen that one, but I don't really get along with Sam Raimi usually. How Raimi is it? 😂

@PeaceSalad Not Raimi enough, so you'd probably like it. I think he wanted to try something different because after that he went more Hollywood, his very first film/short was a western so it could have been a nod to that too. I prefer old Raimi, I always have time for the original Evil Deads and Darkman. I thought the same thing might happen to Eli Roth, then Borderlands happened and confirmed it.

@GirlVersusGame I might check it out then, can't hurt can it? I actually quite enjoyed Darkman though it was many many moons ago.

Speaking of Bordelands it is now on Amazon Prime in the UK. I'm still have no interest in seeing it though.

@graymamba I loved Beau is Afraid, definitely need more of this kind of stuff in the world. A difficult one to surmise and recommend 😂

Edit: Have you seen any of his shorts? They're mostly available on YouTube.

@FuriousMachine I ended up going with a Crimson Tide watch too. Absolutely blinding performances all around, the pressure cooker tension between Washington and Hackman is sublime. No one captures or directs like Tony Scott. I also seen that his DOP also worked with Ridley, must have been a tightnit family unit.

@PeaceSalad I did see that Beau is Afraid was an expansion of one of his shorts actually… I haven’t watched any of them though. I might have a look but have never really connected with shorts in the past.

@graymamba Definitely worth checking out as more of a curiosity if nothing else as you can see the genesis of his style. The Strange Thing About the Johnsons in particular is worth a look.

@PeaceSalad Yeah, 100% agree with all you say re. Crimson Tide. Tony is easily my favourite Scott
I will also give a thumbs up to The Quick & The Dead; great cheesy fun (and the film knows it). Also, it has Lance Henriksen. I do love nearly every Sam Raimi movie, though, so I'm not a reliable yardstick for how enjoyable it is to non-Raimi fans. If you do check it out, hope it gives you some chuckles and an enjoyable time

@FuriousMachine That's just the kind of name drop that will pull me in, I'll definitely check it out mate ta.

Anora totally deserved that win. Out of all the nominees that was my pick for Best Picture, or possibly Conclave. I do think Isabella Rossellini should have taken it over Zoe Saldana though, Emilia Perez is a disaster through to its core and I wouldn’t even really say she’s got the catalogue to justify a pity award like they did for Judi Dench.

been watching the Hellboy Crooked Man movie on Hulu. not bad for another rebooted Hellboy movie but its weird even for a Hellboy movie. it involves Appalachian hillbillies and witches and Hellboy getting bit by a snake.

Replace Hellboy in the movie and the movie would act more like a regular horror movie with rednecks and witches or whatever

I've watched the first three Karate Kid movies the past few weeks. The first one is absolutely fantastic, I watched it from beginning to end in one sitting. The second one is good but there was literally no fighting in it until the end of the movie. The third one is the weakest of the three as the plot just wasn't that interesting to me.

At the end of both the first and third movies, Daniel felt so bad at karate. During the fight against his final opponent, he kept losing over and over until he got one hit in and then won the entire tournament. Then the movie was over right after he won the match. The endings just felt so abrupt and unsatisfying to watch. At least he fought very well during his last fight in the second movie.

Now that I've watched the first three Karate Kid movies, I'm ready to watch the Cobra Kai TV show on Netflix. I've been looking forward to watching it for a very long time now, but I've held off on doing it until I've watched the Karate Kid movies first.

Went to see Bong Joon-ho's Mickey 17 and while I wouldn't call it a home run, it is far from a swing and a miss. Some uneven pacing and satirical humour that is a bit hit and miss in my book, it was mostly a quite enjoyable experience and I was never bored, even if the run-time was a bit on the long side.
Some pretty good performances, with Toni Collette stealing the show entirely. While she chews scenery like nothing else, she stays mostly on the right side of the fine line between entertaining and annoying, while Mark Ruffalo falls on the wrong side a little too often, in my opinion.
Still, it was entertaining and I had a good time watching it.
