Sony’s stealth released a new PlayStation Vita firmware update, which pledges improved stability and not a lot else. The new patch, v3.69, presumably puts a band aid over some behind-the-scenes issues, but you won’t be noticing any changes.
You can download the patch right now, just head to the Settings application on the handheld and search for the updated system software. Then rest safe in the knowledge that you have one of the most stable portables ever crafted sitting snugly in your palms.

I wouldn't be surprised if it doesn't patch out Henkaku, Sony just cares that little about the Vita.
I miss my Vita good old days of Uncharted Golden Abyss and P4Golden...good times
yeah i noticed it this morning, i was wondering what it did and apparently it does nothing
oh well
I still game on my vita every single day. It's very convenient. Sometimes I just play for 5 minutes. It's not as easy with a ps4 (need to turn on the telly, switch the hdmi input, press this, then that, wait for the game to load, play, keep playing till I come across a save point, save before quitting, turn it off)
I'll never understand the people who go on like the PS Vita was massively mistreated or something. The thing flopped ridiculously hard and is still getting new games nearing its eighth year on the market.
Like what more do you want? Failed consoles like the Vita are usually dead and buried within a few years.
@get2sammyb I have to agree. But people (especially gamers) tend to get emotional and completely disregard facts. Their selective memory sure doesn't help.
@get2sammyb Thank you. I'm sick of this misconception that Sony didn't support the Vita. Those people clearly don't remember it's first 2 years of games that came out.
Hm, I was looking into getting a 3.68 version recently thanks to... developments. Hopefully this doesn't patch out henkaku.
That's blatantly to stamp out piracy and hacking on the Vita. Now the PS4 has been hacked to 5.05, I wonder what will be done to knock that scene on the head as well?
Nice. I really like my Switch, but I still prefer the Vita as a portable console.
@get2sammyb It could have been treated better certainly. Needlessly expensive memory cards and rapidly abandoned lacklustre first party support did for it mostly.
Even now, nearly 7 years later - you can't get a 64GB memory card for under £60 (and then you're lucky), which is ridiculous.
Even though it quickly became the indie darling - Sony really washed their hands of it pretty quickly. What did we get - a dozen first party games?
Sony did a great half a job really. They made a great piece of kit and a handful of great games, made it all really expensive then walked away.
It really is a shame. More so in light of the Switch - which is great, but it feels like it'll break.
@KALofKRYPTON I just don't see cheaper memory cards and some more first-party games like inFAMOUS Vita propelling it from 15 million units to 50 million units.
It is what it is. It was a good product that just didn't find the right audience, and in hindsight I think it's lifespan has been pretty good considering the way these sort of failures usually go. Look at the Wii U — it's been dead and buried for years now and it launched AFTER the Vita (and got better first-party software support, too).
The Vita is so stable it's got Rigor Mortis.
@get2sammyb It certainly has done better than it had any right to considering.
Remember on launch that the OLED model has no internal memory to save to, and with 'all digital' being a big push for many, the entry price was unnecessarily prohibitive. Timing was an issue with touch screen gaming really being the 'thing' at the time, and rapidly ageing spec's compared to the mobile space didn't help either.
It was never going to reach the PSP highs, but I honestly think it could've had a better ride despite being pretty ahead of it's time.
Love my Vita … Sony could've easily salvaged it with the revised Vita. The storage issue should've been resolved. Must be one of the most cynical, greedy, anti-consumer practices in videogame history! Only reason I didn't jump in at launch was the memo prices.
Wish Sony could’ve released a firmware update to stop my Vita from eating $50-$100 memory cards after some months or years, sigh. I really want to still love the thing, but it’s hard to invest time and energy into it after the second or third time all your games start throwing random corruption errors. The trust is gone.
I’d even be so desperate as to consider replacing the unit itself, if Sony hadn’t gone and downgraded the display in mid-cycle. No way I’m likely getting ahold of another OLED model now.
It’s a real shame.
I love the Vita, my favourite handheld of all time possibly but I don't blame Sony. Could they have done better, well probably but at the same time it wasn't making money so what are you going to do? Buying any tech is a risk, especially as an early adopter.
So so stable, too stable.
@get2sammyb to be fair, as a general consumer and around the time the vita came out I was a somewhat lapsed gamer I had absolutely no idea that the thing even existed until around the proper announcement of PS4, not great marketing and not enough first party games.
oh! my Vita is now as stable as my emm... 3DS.
Nope Sony made mistakes with the memory and locking it down to only one psn account per system, possibly with some marketing but the fault largely lies with gamers who wrote it off too soon. Im delighted with mine, play it every day. As i said in another thread, i just bought 7 more physical releases while on holiday for the system, and games continue to come out. With games confirmed for 2019 already, i think the lifespan of the console is pretty decent. Its just a shame that there is no successor on the way. And its a shame that it didnt get a couple more AAA experiences that pushed the console the way that killzone et al did. But even that misses the point. The fact vita didnt have those releases meant i looked to genres that i would not ordinarily have tried, like visual novels etc. And being a hub for indie titles was great. I played titles i would never have looked at twice on ps4
@AFCC why did you sell it? i never understood why people let go of their old hardware considering they will only get a fraction of what they paid for it in many cases. it is nice holding on to for the collection and to revisit from time to time... i still play my psp, ds, wii, ps1 and ps2 since the libraries on those platforms are so immense
i have a feeling this update is to lock up the hacking scene... naturally, there is no point as the hackers will only break through again in a couple days or weeks time...
@Porco sometimes people sell software for huge gains (i sold secret of mana snes version for £99.99, symphonia on gamecube for nearly £100 and baten kaitos for £79.99. After a few more games like that there was no need for the console anymore lol). This all went towards buying a ps4 pro
@Porco I didn't, man...it's just here, inside the pouch...waiting, slowly dying
@stu123 recommend me some, I still have it
I just charged mine last night so I can do the lab tests in Spiderman!!! The material and voltage ones. Happy days x
When I'm in bed I mean!
I play my Ps Vita is flightmode. So rarely update firmware.
Currently playing Rainbow Skies. Put in 11 hours since the weekend. Serious good old fashion RPG. Still play the vita on the go, normally with morning coffee @ at cafe.
I'm also playing my Vita at the moment. Danganronpa Ultra Despair Girls. Crazy story, weird characters and some mediocre third person gun gameplay. But I like it.
@AFCC o ok lol... try some ps1 classics if you haven't already... ff 7-9, chrono cross, xenogears, parasite eve, vagrant story etc... some true gems there i you are into classic jrpgs.
@Deadstanley indeed. colour me surprised.
@Porco Sorry? You never understood why people let go of their old hardware?
Erm, because it’s the only way many, many gamers can afford to buy the latest home consoles and portables...
I sold my 3DS to help fund my Vita. Then my Vita made way for a PS4, which later went the way of ebay to help my pay for a Switch. Then, disillusioned with the awful build quality and missing Sony’s sheer breadth of wonderful first-party games, I traded my Switch in for a PS4 Pro. And on and on we will undoubtedly go.
Do I wish to high heaven that I still had my 3DS, 3DS XL, New 3DS, Vita and Switch? What do you think?
Been waiting for this update to get a Vita!!
@The_Pixel_King that is all speculation on your part... it is difficult to say just how many gamers sell their previous gen hardware in all honesty. it seems like a very strange tradeoff to make if you are a serious gamer. i personally could never let go of my old hardware and would simply wait it out until i have enough cash to purchase the latest console — rather than sacrifice a perfectly good console and all of its games. chances are you would get the crappy end of the deal at any rate (monetary wise) and regret your actions down the line.
@Porco I have to agree. Especially since by selling a console you may make less than a new game costs.
@get2sammyb Oh yes it does do something
Fixes a flaw that allowed pirates in making it a very stable device!
Muv Luvin' it up as we speak.
@get2sammyb Does this patch also apply to the PlayStation TV since it can play Vita games too?
@Lando Switch is my favorite platform to date, but the Vita is definitely much more portable. It's the one system I brought with me on vacation this year. Lots of time to grind DRV3's post-game content!
I'll be bringing along the Switch during my January vacation, though. Tales of Vesperia on the go!
@Porco I really want to try FF9 but is the 'remaster' available for the vita?
