Here's an interesting one for the weekend: according to online scuttlebutt, Respawn Entertainment is set to release a free-to-play Battle Royale version of Titanfall on Monday 4th February, titled Apex Legends.
It will be a class based shooter with unique abilities for each individual hero that allows 60 players to battle it out per match. It'll be teams of three, but there won't be any Titans to control. It is also said that the game will follow the Overwatch model of lootboxes and microtransactions for cosmetic items.
Is this something that would interest you? Drop a Titan on it in the comments below.

No Titans? What's even the point? I guess they'll still have the wall running and jumping then?
Titanfall 2 is one of my all-time favorites, and to see EA already twisting the IP to fit the hottest trends is disheartening.
I'll try it for sure.
Really enjoyed Titanfall II, just a pity it released when it did. Will give this a go for sure!
I'll give it a try for sure. My favourite mode was the team death match without titans in. Let's hope its as smooth as the original
Titanfall 2 is seriously underestimated it really is it's worth playing even for the story as it's improved over the first game which sort of didn't have one. Frontier defence mode is fun with friends I platted it last year but still play the game when I can because I love just been able to call down titans and have fun in a giant robot
EA is such a weird company. It's bringing out Anthem soon and adding Battle Royale to Battlefield 5 but LOOK EVERYONE HERE'S TITANFALL BATTLE ROYALE IN THE SAME MONTH TOO.
no Titans!
then how is it Titanfall?
Wait. Without Titans its just Fall.
Wait. Fail. Fixed it for them lol.
I do find it funny that the one of the big selling points is the Titans yet a lot people prefer not to be in them. I can understand that as they are slow by comparison and its 'boots on the ground' combat - basically old CoD combat. The advanced movement of the Pilots is good so you almost have Old Cod (Titans) vs BO3 CoD (Pilots) combat in one game.
I think though, Battle Royale with Titans would really stretch the consoles and servers to much. Having 60 people and up to 60 AI controlled Titans running around the map would be a BIG strain. I know its unlikely that you would get that as it takes a while to earn a Titan so chances are, only a few Titans would be earned.
Considering the price of the game now, I think if people are interested, they should buy the main game, enjoy the campaign and get all the maps as they were free. That way you get to play the game with Titans Falling...
No titans? What? Why call it Titanfall then?
nope, no and no.
Outside of DOOM, Titanfall 2 is the best first person shooter I've played on the PS4 with a fantastic campaign. However a Battle Royale version with no Titans? Sounds ridiculous and I've no interest in that
@get2sammyb Is Respawn even doing this Titanfall? I know a bunch of them left and went back to Infinity Ward and are now rumored to be working on Modern Warfare 4.
I'm out on online MP, but for those interested, F2P is nice.
@Tasuki Well, Respawn will be the developer name on the title screen. Whether it’s the same group of employees or not is another matter.
@get2sammyb Right, but I was just curious if they desolved the studio or just replaced the ones that left. Or if EA handed the TF series over to someone else especially for this game since it's somewhat of a spin-off.
Liked titanfall story not bothered about the the rest. Between blackout, Fortnite and Realm Royale I have my needs covered not enough time for another unless i drop one of those games.
@NinjaWaddleDee the FPS combat as pilots in titanfall is exceptional. It is the one game I don’t understand how it’s not selling well. It plays fast fluid and fun
@Tasuki where did you hear a bunch left and went back to IW
@PS_Nation it’s called Apex legends. If titanfall is in it it’s because it’s in the universe
@RBMango if it was the pilot gameplynof TF2, with some different mechanics and f2p, why would that be bad? The titanfall FPS mechanics are better than the gameplay in fortnite and pubg
@jly1987 Because Titanfall should be given its own spotlight with its own idiosyncrasies instead of being cynically reworked into yet another thing cashing in on what's popular. If it's like the pilots vs pilots but with smaller maps and the monetization isn't too extreme, that might work. But this is EA we're talking about it. I don't trust EA at all to do right by their properties, and I certainly don't trust them when it comes to restraining themselves from exploiting their players.
@RBMango the rumor that I had read was it to teams of 3. They are class based pilots, 4 available at launch for free with two being able to be purchased l, and then cosmetic like loot boxes. If the gunplay is like titanfall I would be in regardless. I get distrusting EA, but it’s not like we’re talking battlefield. The FPS gameplay in titanfall id argue is the best in the genre I might not win that argument but I really believe you can make a very good case for the gameplay in titanfall to be cream of the crop on console fps games. (Talking run and fun)
@Neolit doubt that’s true at all. It’s f2p. People will try it. You don’t need titans for the game to be fun. The pilot gameplay is exceptional. It’s only titanfall because of the universe. They aren’t even calling it titanfall. They’re calling it Apex Legends
Everywhere I’ve looked online, those with “sources” have never called it titanfall. It’s being called Apex Legends. Game journalists are throwing in the name titanfall just because it’s in the universe
@jly1987 I'm 100% with you on Titanfall being the king daddy of console FPS gameplay. It has miraculous gunplay and movement.
But I'm hyper-sensitive to the excessive grindiness of these super monetized multiplayer games in order to encourage people to spend more money. I didn't get bored of Titanfall 2's multiplayer because I felt like I was consistently getting rewarded with cool stuff without having the lingering knowledge of microtransactions. But I know myself too well that even if it's F2P, I'm going to get tired of Apex Legends really quick if it pushes monetization hard on me, even if the gameplay is terrific. These days I only have the time, patience, and money for video games, not live services.
@Neolit I think the problem we all have is looking at BR as a genre. It really should me a mode. It’s just all these companies releasing it standalone has made it a genre when really it’s just a game mode. Haven’t played blops4 yet but I like they mad it just another game mode in their game and not a standalone product
@jly1987 Hmmm ok, thanks for the reply. I really liked the campaign of Titanfall 2, just hope they do the same with the third game.
Ah, I see EA is already deploying their backup plan for when Anthem crashes and burns
I keep thinking I need to play Titanfall 2 campaign. Every time it’s on sale for like $8 I feel tempted to buy it.
As for this, I’ll play it as much as I play Fortnite. Which means zero.
Bit of a side project(apparently) while respawn are still working on jedi fallen order
Would be much more interested if they kept the titans in.
So EA smashed TF2 between two of their huge games and wonders why it fails then releases a game (supposedly) with no fanfare right before their next huge IP?
Erm....aight then.
Good news is it must be fake. Track record shows whenever @get2sammyb decries something as fake it comes true.
Cash in on that Sammy. I know people who say something wont happen then it does. You have immeasurable power.
@BAMozzy I agree, if I play Titanfall, I’ll play with the titans and the actual campaign...
@jly1987 It's been all over the net for months even Infinity Ward said that. I heard that they wanted to make for FPS game but when TF 2 failed to meet expectations EA wanted them to focus on Star Wars games so a bunch of them left and went back to IW
Was going for the platinum on Titanfall 2 and then 'Beat that first trial best score' and 'beat the game on hardest' ruined it for me because in actual fact both are quite impossible. Harder than Bloodborne bosses, makes me wonder if Respawn even tested the difficulties. It's been gathering dust in a box somewhere, but I'll get back to it one day.
Sounds awesome! Looking forward to trying it.
@TheArt it can be done for sure but it takes a lot of patience and practice.
Love the titanfall games but not sure I am interested in a battle royale mode they just seem like time and money I could use elsewhere.
Wwhhaaaaaaaaaa?!? Ok...... Well i do LOOOVE titan fall, and bo4 has made it clear how fun BR can be. I say bring it on!!
I went to a shop in Barbados and I asked for a pie they said that'll be $10, ithought that's expensive so I went to Jamaica and asked for a pie they said $10 , I thought that was expensive next I went to Trinidad and Tobago and a pie was $10... So I asked a bloke why's it's so expensive..he said"that's the pie-rates of the Carribbean!"
I still can't believe I got Titanfall 2 delxe for under a fiver in the last sale. One of the few times where I feel I should be voluntarily paying more money for my goods! Stupidly well made game.
@stBoa
That reminds me of another joke I heard that's similar. I went to a shop in Barbados and I asked for a pie they said that'll be $10, I thought that was expensive so I went to Jamaica and asked for a pie they said $10, I thought that was expensive next I went to Trinidad and Tobago and a pie was nineteen ninety eight when the undertaker threw mankind off hell in a cell, and plummeted sixteen feet through an announcer's table.
I find battle royal games such a bore to play. Can't wait for the fad to be over and done with.
