One of the biggest criticisms that faced Spyro: Reignited Trilogy when it launched last year was the absence of subtitles. A basic feature in almost all games, the lack of such a fundamental accessibility function was pretty baffling, and left many players unimpressed.
Thankfully, Activision has now finally put things right. A new patch is now available to download on PlayStation 4, taking the retro remake to version 1.03. According to the publisher, the update adds subtitles of various languages across all three Spyro titles. You'll be able to toggle them on or off from within the Options menu.
The update also brings the ability to toggle motion blur, as well as a variety of bug fixes. The patch is only 467MB, so it won't take long to get your game up to date.
Are you pleased to see the overdue inclusion of subtitles in Spyro: Reignited Trilogy? Free some dragons in the comments below.

Platinumed all 3 of them months ago, but it’s nice that it’s getting some QOL fixes finally.
Finally!! My PS4 sounds like a jet engine so I can barely hear people speak in games. I missed quite a few dialogue boxes in these games.
@AyeHaley Old or new PS4? You can remove the hood with new one to clean it a little. 😁
About time. Unreal in 2019 that subtitles aren't included from the get-go in every game released. It should be required.
This was a complaint? Lmao
And in that case, it took them THIS long add them in the game? LMAO
Now to patch everything onto an actual disc.
I actually think it is unacceptable that this was allowed to go ahead without subtitles in the first place and that it took this long to implement. Especially in this day and age when people are thinking more about people with disabilities.
For a deaf person not to be able to play this game until now is quite shocking. And was no doubt heartbreaking to some little kid out there.
In fact, the regulators should be enforcing this. I don’t think you can release a movie without subtitles for example.
Yes, most people won’t care about this change, but I actually like that some games have handholding mechanics to help those in need. Like Mario Kart 8 Deluxe where a Dad could finally play with his daughter because it drove the car and things, even cornering for you.
I would even be happy to have an auto mode on games, or where people only need to do limited inputs like auto jumping or something to help people who can only play with one hand or something. At least on some games.
I dunno, I just think we should make gaming inclusive for as many as possible.
I'm not deaf or hard-of-hearing whatsoever, and I still use subs for every game that has them. With this update I'll buy this much sooner rather than later.
Downloaded it earlier. This update didn't do much for me. I don't care about subtitles unless I'm playing with friends talking over the game. I do think the motion blur is too strong but there is no option to lower it, only to remove it entirely, so I just kept it on after trying the game without it. Load times seem much faster, though. Glad for those who want to remove the blur or need subtitles!
Too bad there's no HDR...
but developer TFB was never super technical or cutting edge.
Many of the Skylander games were buggy and visually unimpressive.
I had a feeling the Spyro set was not going to impress as much as Crash.
@Sakisa Same here, loved every moment of them though.
Hoping they will eventually add new in-game content via DLC or free updates.
@AyeHaley I highly recommend trading in your PS4 for another one, should be able to get around $150 out of GameStop.
