XIII was a PlayStation 2 game that this author talked about a lot at high school. Our friends group found the first-person shooter’s cel-shaded visuals fascinating the second they were first printed in Official PlayStation Magazine, and we all eagerly anticipated the release as a result. The final product wasn’t all that memorable in the end, but the title definitely secured cult classic status on the basis of its looks alone.
It doesn’t look anywhere near as good on the PS4, of course, as its last-last-gen origins shine through. This is still a unique look for an FPS game, though, and it’s a genuine surprise that more developers haven’t riffed on its style over the past decade and a bit. The port’s due out in 2020, some 17 years after its original release.

The original one was 17 years ago? So the bold guy I see in the mirror really is me...
I remember picking this up in Wollworths along with Splinter Cell. It was an ubisoft offer or something but I remember loving the game. Something so satisfying seeing the rocket launcher say whoosh then boom or the close up headshot stills.
I'm surprised there isn't more cel shaded games today because after seeing the Windwaker HD, they would look even better now than they did back then
Master we are in a tight spot
A cell-shade game? Must be a Breath of the Wild clone.

I still have the original, in it's cardbox box (wot no plastic?). Apparently, with a bit of tinkering, it still works on Win 10. However, being realistic towards my natural laziness, it seems easier to buy this new edition than feck around changing PC files, etc.
I really enjoyed this game back in the day on PC. I kind of wanted everything cel-shaded back then after the Wind Waker and then this, haha.
@LaJettatura Thanks for the reply and information. Much appreciated.
Wouldn’t this look brilliant in VR?
I loved XIII on GameCube. Still have my copy. Akwats wished there was a sequel, but I'm happy to see the original returning.
