On Tuesday 1st October, Destiny 2 goes free-to-play. It's a big change for the game, one that affects its structure, content delivery, and how it is perceived going forward. Given the title Destiny 2: New Light, it gives away a huge amount of content that veteran players have already paid for, including some year 2 additions. With Destiny 2: Shadowkeep, the experience is entering its third year on the market, so it's understandable if you're not entirely sure what this new free-to-play option includes. So, here is everything that Destiny 2: New Light does and doesn't include.
What's Included in Destiny 2: New Light?
Here, we will list what is included in Destiny 2: New Light and also what is not.
Everything Destiny 2: New Light Includes
Destiny 2: New Light comes with every single piece of year 1 content. That includes what the base game offered, the two initial expansions, as well as all the extra activities that were included in the year 2 Annual Pass. Destiny 2: New Light players get access to:
- The Red War campaign from the base game
- Curse of Osiris campaign from the game's first expansion
- Warmind campaign from the game's second expansion
- Leviathan Raid from the base game
- Eater of Worlds Raid Lair from the game's first expansion

- The Reckoning from the year 2 Annual Pass
- Black Armory Forges from the year 2 Annual Pass
- Gambit from Destiny 2: Forsaken
- Gambit Prime from the year 2 Annual Pass
- The Menagerie from the year 2 Annual Pass
- Gambit & Crucible Private Matches
- Access to all PvP playlists
- Seasonal PvP updates
- New in-game events
- All year 1 exotic weapons and armour
- Select year 2 exotic weapons
- Free roam access to all destinations
Everything Destiny 2: New Light Does Not Include
There are a few major pieces of content that Destiny 2: New Light doesn't give away for free. They are:
- Destiny 2: Forsaken campaign
- Destiny 2: Forsaken subclasses
- Destiny 2: Shadowkeep

Thank you, this clears up a lot.
It's still a no from me.
everyone blamed activision for pressure the developers into exploitative monetizing and running the game into the ground. but now these debelopers are free from activision, and it will be interesting to see how hard they will be pushing the monetizing from now on.
I tried recently to jump back into D2 but after a couple of hours it ran off of steam.
Too much grinding and repetitive tasks for a little reward.
I prefer dedicate my little time to single player games or the more rewarding (and entertaining) borderlands 3
Do people still play this? Not one single person I know does
Still a no from me. A couple of months ago I deleted the Destiny 2 bundled with the first two expansions I had pre-ordered. It got too messy for my liking. I wiped it the same day I wiped Anthem.
Anthem had so much potential and they just blew it. Watching the Spurs game last night was a similar experience.
I have gone back to it (I said that I wouldn't, lol) and it's OK so far. There have been some painful things, like the server going down on launch day, and the fact that the Gatelord's Eye didn't unlock because I got to level 7 during a nightfall (come on Bungie, fix it), but there is a lot to do if you like grinding. If you don't like grinding though, give it a miss, coz it's a grindfest!!
I downloaded Forsaken DLC when I bought the legendary edition a while ago but sold Destiny 2 as I was bored, am wanting to hop back in though, will this version still let me access all my DLC mate? @LiamCroft
@DonJorginho Yes, downloading Destiny 2: New Light should give you access to all of the content listed above as well as the Forsaken campaign. You will have to buy the current season pass if you want to play the latest content though.
@LiamCroft Thanks mate was thinking about getting Shadowfall anyways and this has saved me from having to buy another disc copy!
