Death Stranding's latest update, patch 1.06, is now available for download on PlayStation 4. Weighing in at 1.049GB, it's a somewhat meaty one which brings with it improvements to online features and general performance enhancements.
The PS4 patch notes simply state optimised network functionality and various performance improvements, so it's unclear exactly what patch 1.06 has done to the game at the time of writing. Still, it's nice that Kojima Productions is continuing to update and improve what is already a very stable game. We'll update this story when further information is available -- if any.

I am thinking I might get a year of PS+ if I get Death Stranding for Christmas - I hear this game is a much better experience with online, and I have feeling PS+ is a requirement to experience that - even though it's not actual multiplayer.
Plus, I want to get Cloud Saves back for the inevitable upgrade to PS5 down the road.
@thefirst Oh really?! That's awesome, actually!
I may hold off on a PS+ subscription until a couple of weeks before I intend to get a PS5 and just get a 1-month subscription to take advantage of cloud saves for when I upgrade.
@BarefootBowser yeah they really need to dial down the bikes, in fact just take them out of the world make them only available in the garage. As for other structures and lost packages I'm fine with that as it adds to the gameplay but I don't need two bikes side by side on the highway.
I think this patch made Léa Seydoux 20% hotter and Norman Reedus 10% more like the kind of guy you'd like to have a beer with.
Some of story related trophy's didnt pop up for me. Hope they fix that. I already finished storyline, but trophy for chapter 3 and 6 remained locked.
Just got to fort knox city after leaving my motorcycle (😢) and running from the bt there (got suck in, not enough grenade for killing the enemy), the journey to the city is really wondrous with the view and the music, kojima know how to set the game mood 😃
@BarefootBowser The way I see it, there are many Porters (some of the NPC porters you can see strolling around), however only "your" Sam carries the Q-PID to link up the network. Aside from a couple of fourth wall breaking nods, it tends to make sense to me. Even the NPC porters send likes for structures that they use.
Have to say I was very impressed with the stability of the game from day one. Never experienced any bugs or crashes through the entire game. If only other studios were as diligent.
I'd just like to ability to delete a save game or two. i like to keep my saves tidy and it is stressing me out have a bagillion saves that I cannot delete. Urghh.
@LiamCroft in the private room I've just saved in I've noticed there isn't any monster energy but a porter drink instead
@thefirst I will bear that in mind when I try to do that trophy. The game prompts you to give them a friendly welcome in the tips section..and you sock them one haha! I still don't understand how to gift porters. Don't feel that was really explained properly.
@BarefootBowser for the most part I'm loving the online contributions from other players but I have run into a couple of vehicles left in very awkward places that I've struggled to pass. Overall though this game just keeps getting better and better.
@Neolit I completely agree, this is one of the very best games this gen. I think I'm about halfway through chapter 5 and planting zip lines as I'm going along planning how to quickly travel between areas later whilst looking to rebuild the roads. There is plenty of action if people really want to engage in between the exploration and sometimes necessary to stockpile materials 😉. I do hope that other developers are looking at how this game has integrated its online features (and use of terrain) for their open world games as I feel they may feel flat and lifeless without them
@carlos82 I believe that's supposed to happen. The switch was made when I was reviewing the game too.
@LiamCroft oh ok, first time I've noticed it
Still on Chapter 3 and just had a good few hours on it this afternoon. I really hope they add a photo mode soon, its criminal a game like this what has some stunning views and visuals doesn't have a photo mode. I'm actually hoping that next gen that Sony mandates every PS5 game has a photo mode even if its in a limited form for games like Destiny where pausing isn't an option, i love taking photos in real life so safe to say photo mode has been my favourite new thing this gen.
@GamingFan4Lyf You don't need PS+ to play Death Stranding online.
@Rick_Deckard Horizon's one was amazing. Still the gold standard for me with them is Days Gone for how technical it was and Spider-Man for how OTT fun it was. Honestly though any PS4 exclusives seems to have the best ones though.
@Rick_Deckard In the options menu you can choose to see only your signals.
50+ hours in and just got to Chapter 5. I've been building bridges and stuff, haha.
@carlos82 you shouldn’t plant zip lines for later in the game as they will eventually deteriorate and become useless, only do it if your planning on maxing out your rep with all the sites. I’ve going for the platinum and it took me about 10 hours with zip lines to max out about 15 of the sites and they were on their way out not long after I finished. You can repair them but they take a lot of chiral crystals
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk its mainly for areas that I'm in at the moment and around people I'm trying to level up before moving on. My main focus has been the roads as they're much more useful, then have the odd stop with a zip line up a hill to the Elder for example. Though I do have a neat little setup between Mountain knot, South Knot and the distribution centre, with the cosplayer and weather station linked as well, to get then all levelled up. I think this is one of those few games where I am going to go for the Platinum as I'd have done most of this stuff anyway
@carlos82 I’ve only really used roads for deliveries that are too big to carry on your back. The more you level up the sites the more bandwidth you’ll have which means more structures plus you’ll unlock all the best gear. I still haven’t finished the story but don’t think I’m far from the end so I’ve gone back to the first area to level the 7 sites up and get some building trophies
@Fuzzymonkeyfunk I load them up with several deliveries together or fill them with other people's lost cargo for the destination I'm heading to. Then set off and do one big drop or several and maybe take some materials if I need them elsewhere
@carlos82 drink all the booze in your room. Make sure not to skip on the 5th can
@Rick_Deckard Odyssey is one of my favourite games this gen and yeah i've taking plenty of photos with that, its largely made up most of my wallpapers this past year haha
I'm sitting at about 50 hours played and I'm only in chapter 5. I've been doing almost every single standard order I can before taking on any order for sam.
I'm loving this game. Finally got to Lake Knot City and the Engineer, so I now have the Exo. It makes life sooooo much easier. This game shouldn't work, but it does in such an amazing way!
