Death Stranding did incredibly well for itself in the November 2019 NPD results for USA, charting in seventh position. The title could only be outpaced by juggernauts, including Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, various permutations of Pokémon Sword & Shield, and Madden NFL 19. According to analyst Mat Piscatella, the Hideo Kojima directed release ranks among the top ten “launch month full game dollar sales for a Sony published title in history”.
Overall, consumers spent $2.251 billion on gaming-related products in November, which is down 19 per cent year-over-year. Declining sales of the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One can be attributed to the drop, as well as the lack of a Red Dead Redemption 2-esque software smash hit. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare’s doing a decent job picking up the slack, though, and is now not only the best-selling game of 2019 in America – but also the biggest release of the past 12 months.
As you’d expect, Nintendo Switch once again led the hardware charts – it’ll be the best-selling console in the US for 2019 without any doubt. We’ve included the relevant software rankings below.

Anthem was the 10th best selling game of the year. Wow.
Anthem? Top 10? Hmm seems bunch of people got rip off.. Jeez people never learn. Wait when it's EA product.. My philosophy! If gaming
No interest in playing death stranding but as a Kojima fan I hope it does really well. Not my kind of game but if it does well he is more likely to make more original titles that I might like.
Jedi is in the top selling games of 2019! (And that is with no PC sales) Amazing!
Nice for DS. It really opens up after the start. He so needs to make a Movie. He can take the Indie Movie industry by storm if he goes in that direction.
@supergurr honestly you should at least give it a shot , especially if your a Kojima fan. I'm going to have to dive into MGS now as I found Death Stranding phenomonal and that was my first Kojima experience. May not have won game of the year but Kojima and his team will be chuffed with what they took home on the night.
@RogerRoger The Pokemon entry is split in three. Sword, Shield, and the double pack for those who wanted both. If you add them all together you get a rough estimate of the total number of people who bought the game. Assuming that everyone who got both, got the double pack of course. Anyway, it's Pokemon, so I don't doubt it's the best selling November game if it all was one entry.
@MightyDemon82 Wasn't a huge fan of Ground Zeroes, so I may have to go back after DS as well and play Phantom Pain.
And Whatculture's calling Death Stranding a "sales disaster". -_-
@Enuo I was thinking the same thing. Mind you they have gone a bit click baiting of late. Watch the vid titled 'PS5: 9 Massive Problems Fans Won't See Coming' and see what I mean.
Pokemon's some franchise sales, wonder where it would place with sword and shiel/double packed all combined?
Between splitting the game into three SKUs and not including digital sales (and being exclusive to one platform), it's pretty impressive that Pokemon games still manage to rank so high on the charts.
Death Stranding did well, which means Kojima will likely continue to receive funding for his insane projects, which is... probably a good thing.
Kudos to EA for releasing an actually good single-player SW game.
Eh .... Death Stranding did alright
Wow, Star Wars did that well?
The Outer Worlds didn't even crack the top 10 ouch, no Gears anywhere either. I just bought ToW and its a straight to gamepass game that should not be $60. It should have been $30 andcI paid $50. These are the type of games M$ wanted for GP. Game feels like its should have released in 2007. Its no where near the 86% it got on Metacritic. More like a 65%. Its what I expected, flaws included.
Let's just hope this paves the way for Death Stranding 2.
