Update: Well, less than three hours after posting this article, The Wonderful 101 has reached its $500,000 stretch goal on Kickstarter. Therefore, the former Wii U exclusive will indeed release on PS4 via a remastered version. It's planned to launch in April 2020.
New Stretch Goals have been announced, including a Time Attack mode and a brand new 2D side-scrolling adventure named Luka's First Mission.
Original story: As heavily rumoured, PlatinumGames has unveiled a Kickstarter campaign to bring The Wonderful 101 back from the dead. The Wonderful 101 Remastered will arrive on Nintendo Switch for $50,000 -- a sum that's already been raised at the time of writing.
However, the campaign doesn't stop there. The developer has two revealed stretch goals: a PC version for $250,000, and a PlayStation 4 version for a whopping $500,000. That's quite the jump.
So yeah, that's the bottom line. If you want this ill-fated Wii U action title remastered on Sony's system, then you're going to have to hope PlatinumGames can raise $500,000 over the next month or so.

If it was the Bayonetta trilogy then yeah but not for this
@m8e3point1415 Well to start, according to Kamiya, they spoke to the IP Owner, Nintendo, and they said you either do this game only on Switch with us, or you can do it yourselves.
Seems like part of that investment was buying the rights to Wonderful 101, which they've stated they want to do for all their IP. Probably means they'll buy Astral Chain from Nintendo and Bayonetta from SEGA.
This is crazy that it’s actually happening. What I don’t get is how it’s releasing in April but just now being funded? Seems more like the games almost ready to go and they want to recoup their funding.
Either way the idea of a big company using Kickstarter is disgusting but I’m glad W101 is getting another chance.
Fair enough. I checked the page and it’s already funded for Switch so there we go.
Those are some big gaps in goals. Its usually the consoles with the cheaper goal than the pc. Im guessing there are valid reasons for this but hell if i know what they are
Done.
Just to help make this model work I'll fund it. A publisher tells them "No" to going multiplat and they can turn to the fans 👍
Nice to see Platinum attempting to bring their games to a larger audience. I wish them all the best, though admittedly The Wonderful 101 isn't something that I'm too interested in getting.
Is this good? Do we want it? I love a lot of Platinums games but really hate Bayonetta with a bit of a passion.
@Agramonte Less that a publisher told them no, and more "We want to do it but not exclusively to one platform." So they let the IP go. Hardly like they were using it.
Plus said publisher is probably very much in their good books given they funded some stuff when other publishers and platform holders said no.
Looking at the way it's going it should easily make it.
Their on crack, lol. They'll never make that much for that in a month.
@get2sammyb Holycrap maybe your right. It's already at 330k. 😳
It'll breeze the PS4 target, I backed it for a physical copy to add to the collection
So what was the point of that Tencent money for self-publishing, exactly?
@Danloaded Ninty probably gave them some money for the Switch version, so maybe that was already partially funded? Or maybe they expect most of their revenue on Switch, so making that stretch goal lower means they'll reach it for sure and recoup the losses afterwards. No idea really.
Thats platinum and gold money for a ps4 game.☺.word up son
I'm in. I love that one of the higher tiers means you can get blocked by Hideki Kamiya on Twitter.
cough cough port-begging cough cough
@Ken_Kaniff It looks like they'll pass the half-million mark in about 30 seconds if you wanna go watch. 30,000 short and they're getting about 1,000 per second.
Edit: My mistake, took 12 minutes.
Hm, looking more into it, it seems Nintendo is somehow helping this come out despite it being multiplat. Which is good, there’s no Wii U game that deserves a second chance more than this and I’m glad it’s coming to more than just Switch. Hopefully it does infinitely better this time.
Almost reaching the $500.000 goal.
Well, it hit $500,000! Wooo!!
And there it is
@Ken_Kaniff it’s already at half a mil. PS4 version: funded.
@Knuckles-Fajita
..."We did speak with Nintendo about it initially, but they said, ‘you either do it only with us or do it yourselves."
So what I said, Nintendo said no to being multiplat.
Well, they in great standing with everyone platform holder right now. And have a great reputation on other platforms after Nier: Automata.
How badly do you guys want to get blocked by Kamiya?
Currently at $408,000+ with 31 days to go and rising fast. I don't think we have to worry about that PS4 port 😁👍
Edit* My bad its showing as pounds here not dollars So it's happening then. And it's rising fast.
Vita version at $250 million, let's go!
I never bought Wonderful 101 for my Wii U, but since the remaster is coming to PS4 I might as well get it.
Why cant I stop looking at that pledge amount rising... 😲
@rjejr I clearly underestimated the want for this Remaster. 😆
@Ken_Kaniff passed it in three hours lol great comment though
Well that was easy, it’s already past $645,000. Never thought I’d see The Wonderful 101 for PS4, but I will definitely be picking this one up. I was always intrigued by this one when I saw it on the Wii U.
@kyleforrester87 Just wondering why you hate Bayonetta so much? I understand the games aren't for everyone, but they've got some excellent combat, music, bosses and setpieces, what specifically don't you like about it?
Should have Bayonetta 2 and 3 ported over. The Wonderful 101 is a fun concept but not fun to play.
Well I kinda have to buy it now seeing how fast people supported it for a multiplat release. I hope it's better than the trailers and gameplay that I've seen let on.
@Ken_Kaniff I think Kickstarter MAKES people want games. They probably sold more thru KS then if they just released the game in April.
@BranJ0 If he played the horrible port on PS3 i can understand. I was so dissapointed i sold the game.
@Discipledoctor Platinum is not a big company, they nearly bankrupt when scalebound is cancelled. I'm okay with them using KS as long s ea, acti, and others big publisher didn't use them.
I hope bayonetta 2 and astral chain next, already have astral chain on my lite but I prefer playing it on ps4 with better resolutions and frame rate 😃
Edit: I heard daemon x machina, former nintendo exclusive, is going to multiplatform too on steam. The sky is the limit for others platinum project, I hope the last 3 is bayo 2, astal chain, and new nier
I've never even heard of this game.
sorry but how on earth is it launching in april having JUST NOW reached its goal? sounds to me like the game was already ported to ps4 and ready to go. this makes zero sense.
@Knuckles-Fajita Hypocrites. Bayonetta & Astral Chain are both part of a contract so... yeah. And Microsoft nor Xbox didn’t want anything to do with the Bayonetta IP so it was Nintendo who funded and saved the series.
@SaikoWaifu2003 Here is how you and the rest of the community sound.
PS4 game releases
Switch owners: Omg please bring to Switch
PS4 owners: Haha, keep begging Nintendrone. Buy a PS4 or shut up
Switch game releases and does really well
PS4 owners: please release on PlayStation 4 instead of Nintendo trash systems
Switch owners: it’s an exclusive. You have yours and we have ours, get a Switch
PS4 owners: Okay we’ll just review bomb it then, it probably sucks anyways
I better not ever hear another fan base talk about port begging.
Port begging intensifies lol
Joking aside, I'm glad this game can get another chance with an infinitely wider install base, it would've been a shame to leave it to rot on the Wii U.
@Akurusu Wow so Nintendo, Sony and Microsoft all have annoying and rabid fanboys within the fanbase!? 😱😱😒
Which ever console you prefer the fanboys of that console will not bother you much while fanboys of apposing console's will seem more annoying even though they are being equally annoying.
@Discipledoctor because PlatinumGames sucks. That’s why. The game is completed exactly like you said, they just want money from us
@Porco bingo
@Porco I'd imagine it was already almost complete for the switch and one of the agreements to let the IP go was to bring to switch first. The reason the other goals were higher is because dev hasn't started for the ps4 and pc. Maybe wrong tho.
Great now I literally have no reason to pass up on this gem, as does anyone reading this article.
@BranJ0 honesty I’m not too sure either, in principal it should tick all the boxes for me, I just really dislike both games. The stories don’t seem to make any sense 😂
I love Vanquish but I’m even annoyed that the rerelease shares a box with Bayo 🤷♂️
Excellent - happily threw the lads a few quid there.
Already backed it, I saw the gameplay on let's play video and it looks great
Excited for this game, I've not played it although I had wii u back then since I don't like games that use the wii u controller pad.
See Platinum??? There's a lot of people willing to support your games on PC and PlayStation, so now you can stop working only for Nintendo all the time please.
Sweet we can like it now it's on PS4
waiting for some disgruntled switch fan to smash a ps4 in protest.
Fantastic news. Brilliant game and I'm really excited to see how it looks on PS4.
@Juanalf They’re all annoying. Nintendo fans are terrible when they believe rumors & the rumors don’t follow through and they acted like children after the game awards. Let’s not forget the lack of criticism. PlayStation fans are hypocrites & elitists who thinks every game is the best ever made when they’re all just Hollywood films. PC gamers think they’re the best even though they steal games and make up all kinds of excuses which is pathetic.
Me. I play what I like and go. People are in shock when I defend one side immediately after defending another. Whatever I’m in the mood for. The warring fanbases rip each other to shreds while I watch.
@Shepard93n7 Stop port begging. They don’t work for Nintendo all the time. You wanna blame someone, blame Sony for not wanting anything to do with Bayonetta & blame the fans for review bombing the game like spoiled children. It was Nintendo who saved and funded Bayonetta 2&3 and Astral Chain. They’re only fulfilling their contract. See Hideki’s comment.
@SaikoWaifu2003 I personally don’t care about the game. I’m out here because I think the hypocrisy is hilarious & now everyone is getting their hopes up for more games.
@Ken_Kaniff lol...
Exhibit A, court is adjourned,
witness, @rjejr, how the tables have turned!
Port begging surely wasn't tolerated,
but lo and behold, ports are appreciated!
As long as people are throwing a bone
to a console that can only be played at home.
@Akurusu
Whoa, I thought myself to be the only one here...
@SaikoWaifu2003
You're right, taking games away from such a purgatory was enough of a priority that the PlayStation 4 port was the last one to be unlocked, at five times the Switch version's price. Crazy, right?
PlatinumGames went on to explain that the first Wonderful 101 was produced by Nintendo, which means all other versions have been funded with Nintendo's explicit consent. What even were the odds?
@suikoden
I doubt it. The game is confirmed for Switch already.
Switch eventually got both the actual Breath of The Wild as well as its knockoff, in the end.
@SaikoWaifu2003
As a Nintendo fan (who got his gaming start on PS1, mind you), I'm always quick to defend the Wii U (despite Nintendo themselves having had its failure coming).
Being backside-hurt over exclusives (or, worse yet, coming-to-every-console-except-yours kind of exclusives) is all fine and dandy, but I've never said that - in a reverse example - "I'm sick of seeing games only coming to PS4 because of a few teraflops more, they should come to Nintendo Switch because it can be taken on the go".
Of course, being a Nintendo fan already and also being a portable kind of guy made my love for Switch an obligatory choice, but I'm not going to say PS4 is a bad console or anything like that.
@Neolit "it is used as a measure of interest"
Begging for port-begging. 😂
@AlexSora89 Nice poem as always.
I don't do poetry, more of a "slogan" guy. From a tweet:
"It's on Kickstarter. The official motto of kickstarter could literally be:
Kickstarter - If you beg us enough for a game well give it to you.
That's what kickstarter is, a place to beg."
Hopefully I'll fare better with the game on PS4, got stuck in the very beginning.
@Shepard93n7. Didnt know neir automata was on the switch? Or the granblue game... Or many other platinum titles that arent on the switch for you to ignorantly say platinum is only working with nintendo.
That in mind sony and xbox rejected bayonetta 2 from happening nintendo funded and co owns the bayonetta series according to inaba head of platnuim due to solely saving the series...
