PlayStation 5’s operating system is a big talking point at the moment, after Sony patented new technology which will allow it to integrate game menus into the hardware’s main hub. It’s since emerged that the manufacturer wants to make playing its next-gen console as “easy as Netflix”, as PS5’s SSD is utilised to get you into titles faster than ever before.
And here’s a mock-up of how the machine’s main menu could look, courtesy of RightWeepyFanworms. While we reckon the fonts are a little small, the short video demonstrates how, upon highlighting a release, you can load specific save files and jump directly to the multiplayer mode. It’s all conceptual, but this is presumably the kind of thing we can expect from the upcoming system.

In what they told us, it is a reasonable guess to assume so. I hope we get a consumer announcement soon.
One of these times, one of these videos is going to be very close to what's actually in development and Sony (or one of the others) will make a statement along the lines of: "We intended to release the new system this November, but someone has already presented a video mock-up which was very close to our UI, so we've had to delay and redesign to avoid claims of copyright infringement."
It reminds me of the older HBO Now interface with improvements.
I'm more fussed about keeping the features we allready have, rather than them slowly patching things back in over the course of several years. As that seems to have been the trend every generation.
Cool concept. It's kinda nerdy but I'm actually pretty excited to see the PS5's menus and stuff
I hope there's "Time Played" in the ps5 os for all games, I like seeing how many hours I've played on some games, especially rpg and open world games.
and hopefully you can see that info when you are offline, because you cant see any info offline on the ps4. you are only met with a message that says your offline.
Anything is better than the PS4 UI. That **** sucked ****.
You know what...this is basically going to make missable trophies obsolete right?
Messed up your social links in Persona 5? No problem just jump back into a previous Palace.
I hope games can be runned normaly. I actually love main menu in game itself. That feeling when main menu pop-up is great and sparks my taste to play another piece of game. Jumping directly into checkpoint from system menu, feels like... watching movie from the middle.
@TheBuzz having that information offline would be almost impossible and send all that information is stored on the online database
I want to know how they got the info in The Last of Us Part 2 like the chapter section how do they know those are the names of the chapters and 162 gigs for the last of.us part 2
@NomNom yeah I want to see what the console looks like already!! Come on Sony, we need some happiness in this s**t times
That chrono cross image made my depressed the rumors about BWC with older playstations are probably fake :´(
@Fight_Teza_Fight It's not a level select cheat, it's either your save files or a shortcut to chapter select if the games already have that - like Uncharted and TLoU. It's a shortcut to whatever's already in the game (e.g. load menu, chapter select, multiplayer modes).
@potter32 nothing is impossible, the information can be saved locally for offline and to online servers when needed. it really is that easy. dont forget the ps3 had offline trophies and the friendlist was offline too. what they did on the ps4 was just lazy and half arsed.
Can I insert USB flash drives and SD card into the ps5?
@scottdevine48 usb hard drives and flash drives can be used, but there is no talk about a sd card slot.
@TheBuzz Here's what I want:
The Simpsons Hit and Run remastered
Sonic Adventure 1 and 2 remakes
A new Sonic 30th anniversary game with two new boy and girl hedgehog siblings resembling Sonic and a new echidna resembling Knuckles
Mortal Kombat 9, X and 11 remastered
Rayman M remastered with Dark globox and globette
A new open world Power Rangers game based on 3 seasons of MMPR.
Injustice 3
The Sims 5
A new South Park game
A new family guy game
Digimon Adventure PS5 port
Do you agree them?
@TheBuzz But PS4 work offline as Well. 😉
@Constable_What No it didn't, it was easily tied with Switch as best console UI of the generation with Xbox consistently coming in last.
Id like it to still be WAY more minimal in looks. I wish for full customization in what is displayed on the menu screen as well as font size and color/opacity etc.
@GoblinKing86 According to who? The UI is the slowest of any console ever. It takes a minute easily to load up the PS Store, sending messages is laggy, the share button lags and stutters the game I'm playing while making it unresponsive for a second or two at least, and don't even DARE try and look at someone else's profile during an online game like Siege or Call of Duty!.. That's ****ing donkey diarrhea!
It's just incredibly slow and laggy. The Switch's UI is really similar style wise to the PS4, but it's so much snappier. Something is horribly ****ed from a hardware engine perspective for the console to run its UI like that.
I love my PS4, and I play it the most (I have a Switch and a PC), but the UI is garbage. The slowdown completely ruins it for me.
I don't have an Xbox One, so I can't comment on that UI, but Windows 10 is garbage too. Stupid thing deleted my network driver during an update, and blue screened during a back-up. Thanks Microsoft!
Looks nice.
About time we had a decent UI. They've all (PS, Xbox, Nintendo) been pretty poor so far imo.
@Flaming_Kaiser sure it works offline but it miss a lot of the info for your game, that you see on the screen when you are online. there is no reason for this missing, it can be easily available when in offline too. but sony are lazy and just slap a text on screen that says you are offline instead.
@scottdevine48 that have nothing to do with the ps5 operating system. but with that said i am sure you will see some of these games getting a remake in the future.
"could" ? That is not a fact. I will ignored it until Sony confirmed 100 percent. Sighing.
I'm going to need a 120" TV to read that tiny writing. I can't read the xbox fonts on my 50" tv
@Constable_What Must be your connection, because I never had an issue with the UI. Always worked well for me and just about anyone I know. I have a Pro, so I can't comment on the original PS4.
@InsertUsername I have it connected via LAN with a fast and stable connection and so do a lot of the other people I know, and their UIs are all sluggish from launch PS4s to the slim versions. The UI is sluggish even when not connected to the Internet as well, and I also have a Pro system.
It's not the connection chief. Mark Cerny even dedicated a segment on how the PS4 doesn't have dedicated CUs to render low poly geometry in things like maps and UI, and he explained that the PS5 has innovated by having a new engine to render it all without taxing the machine too much.
You must just not notice it. It's a widespread problem
@InsertUsername I'm in the same boat as you... never had any speed issues with the UI, either on my current Pro or the original launch-model PS4.
I'm hoping that they return to a minimal UI rather than keeping a bunch of gimmicks that serve no purpose. Improve gameplay functions like trophies, the rest can go.
@Constable_What I have to agree, it really is slow, especially when opening a Web browser or the PS store. I find the X1 UI marginally better, but it can still be excruciatingly slow at times (namely in Explorer, same as with the PS4). The store loads a lot faster though.
As if you have a ton of XBOX adverts on a PlayStation website 🤔 ! They are following me as I scroll!
