When do you expect Sony to talk about the PlayStation 5 next? That’s the question we asked in our regularly scheduled Friday poll today, but now we have a small indication from the manufacturer about when we can anticipate more on the next-gen device. As part of its PS5 backwards compatibility update today, the organisation said that it’ll provide “much more PS5 news in the months ahead”.
So, what’s the hold up? Well, obviously coronavirus is going to have a big impact on its marketing and messaging strategy, but we also can’t help but wonder whether The Last of Us: Part II is getting in its way. This is a juggernaut for the Japanese giant, and it probably wants all its attention and efforts to be focused on that. The sequel was, of course, originally due out towards the end of February – but now won’t release until 29th May.
Architect Mark Cerny said during his deep dive presentation this week that there’ll be “lots of chances” to look at PS5 games later in the year, but we hope the organisation doesn’t keep us waiting too long, as we’re hungry for the goods right now. Take a look at our poll and let us know when you reckon the next big PS5 blowout will be.

Well it’s still annoying with Microsoft being so forthcoming.
And here I was expecting them never to mention it again
Wishlist for the PS5:
A console reveal
The Simpsons: Hit and Run remastered
An open world Power Rangers game based on 3 seasons of MMPR.
A Sonic adventure 1&2 remake and Sonic Adventure 3.
Sims 5
Mortal Kombat 12
Rayman M remaster with Dark Globox and Globette
A new South Park game
A new Family Guy game
A Media Player
PlayStation Home 2.0
@OmegaStriver Does it really matter if you get the information six months before launch or nine months before launch?
Neither of them have really shown their games yet either.
@OmegaStriver at this point they showed the same amount of info. Unless you giving points to cgi non gameplay showings... because im not. I play games not cut scenes.
I think Last of Us and Ghost of Tsushima are both holding it up. They dont want to risk those games not selling - or shifting PS4's - because people are only thinking about PS5.
@get2sammyb Nope, it doesn’t matter but how Sony is handling their message vs Microsoft is annoying.
lol Don't tease me with that HZD picture. I'm about done with my Ultra-Hard NG+ playthrough and am still sort of hungry for more.
@Cutmastavictory Didn’t they show performance improvements to BC titles, 5 games in rest mode and a better indication of how exactly their extra storage is going to work?
Don’t get me wrong, I have no interest in buying an Xbox as I love PS exclusives and the Series X has to make sure games work on the Xbox One for two years. That’s an easy nope.
Don't worry, you guys probably still have 100 variations of "PS5 backwards compatability is still incredibly confusing" articles to keep us going for the next week or so. 😉
Seriously though, I don't mind not hearing much for a while, it keeps my hype in check when information comes out closer to a game or console launch.
"IN BREAKING NEWS!!"
A console that has yet to be released or fully revealed, will be releasing more information before the consoles release 😲...
I cam see a state of play in May, with a console teardown and controller deep dive next month.
Xbox - that went pretty well, not the f*k up like last gen. PS - hold my beer 😥
@get2sammyb is microsoft releasing 2 different consoles at launch? Like the series x being like the pro version?
Don't really care at this point - speculating with friends/ internet 'folks' can be fun but Sony/ Internet has not made this a very enjoyable experience.
Will just wait and buy it when I can
Sony said they will follow the same time line as PS4 did. Mark Cerny's talk was in February and the PS4 was revealed in June at E3. The PS4 went on sale November 18th. It was a big surprise to me Microsoft didn't wait to June E3 like they did with Xbox one. Maybe they have that second version of Xbox to announce at that time.
@OmegaStriver
You mean “The Japanese Giant”.
@ellsworth004 It has only been rumoured so far and nothing has been confirmed.
I think some need to be a bit more respectful of how much of an impact the coronavirus has had. But, no some want it everything right now which comes across as overentitled and selfish.
@JohnnyShoulder uh are u refering to my question? Because im not even buying a xbox, ive just heard that and was wondering...
@ellsworth004 Only the first sentence, the rest of it was more generally.
@JohnnyShoulder ah ok, i agree with u somewhat. But, people also use these type of discussions to take their mind off of this huge problem. Every where u turn all u see and hear is coronavirus and its scary. Its nice to have a normal conversation that gives a little escape. I generally dont think people are being selfish or entitled. These are crazy times its good to find a little normality. Though I have seen some comments that are a little heartless, and that is a pretty crappy way for people to be.
@ellsworth004 I'm not saying people can't have a discussion about any subject, or everyone is being overentitled and selfish, just that some are being flippant in regards to the coronavirus and the impact it has had.
