We’ll get a deep dive on the PlayStation 5 from lead system architect Mark Cerny tomorrow, but what’s with the curious timing? Given that Microsoft revealed a ton of information about the Xbox Series X this week, many feel that Sony may be scrambling for a response. In fact, it’s worth remembering that the Game Developers Conference was scheduled to take place this week, before being cancelled due to coronavirus.
Over on the Japanese PlayStation account, the company confirmed that it had planned to host a panel about its next-gen console during the aforementioned event. “This video contains a session scheduled for GDC scheduled to be held in the United States,” the organisation explained, before removing the tweet. Seems like the manufacturer is at least trying to stick to a predetermined schedule – albeit under unprecedented circumstances.

Like I say, this is about specs rather then the actual games. That won't come till May at the earliest now.
well the old rumors always claimed that TLOU 2 would be showed on ps5 to showcase the specs in action maybe they will do that.
it's an older rumor debunked by the fact that we did not get a PS meeting last month but still. some things might cary over.
plus it would be ideal to showcase new TLOU gameplay.
(again as it makes me laugh)
That's right, I completely forgot about GDC since it's been cancelled.
Maybe Microsoft was going to announce the Series X's details at GDC as well but decided just to share it with the public on their own time, similar to Cerny is with the PS5.
Interesting.
@Futureshark It's the gif that keeps on giving!
@beavis64 If this was meant to be a GDC thing then no there won't be, GDC isn't the place to announce games. It'll be just about specs and maybe some features.
see like i said in another article, Sony had a plan but the virus situation caused a changed
and people was getting their knickers in a twist over MS getting theirs out first
But,but the Xbots & certain gaming/YT sites have all been saying Sony pulled out of GDC/PAX etc. early,'cos they had nothing to show/ were retooling the ps5?!!
Will be keen to see what they have to say,but I don't expect a full roster of first party games reveals quite yet.
@FullbringIchigo wonder if they did some extra work yesterday to somehow 1up the MS reveal.
would not be the first time sony pulls out a rabbit out their hat.
@jdv95 i imagine they probably did make a few changes to the presentation
Of course this also has the effect of being the one in everyone's mind now
Sometime being second isn't a bad thing
@FullbringIchigo yeah sony is used to hosting reveals after MS has done so at e3 etc. it always worked out well for them and would not be suprised if they waited to be second on purpose.
ofcourse some people might say that they "copied" the series x with the specs because of this (altough the ps5 wired article that revealed some of the specs came out months before the seriex x was even shown at the game awards). but eh people will complain anyway like always.
@jdv95 yeah let them complain, i'm expecting them to be pretty similar in power anyway because they will ant to keep third party publishers on board
whether or not the PS5 is a little less or a little more powerful than the Series X i think the difference will probably be marginal
@jdv95 These consoles are already being manufactured, or at the least tooling is completed and components are being made. The specs were locked down a year or so ago. Even with today's just in time production it takes a long run in to release a console generation. Its long past time anyone could have been looking at the competition. Pricing and marketing are a different story though. So still expect a lot of chicken and egg shenanigans going on till release
