Rumours of two Silent Hill reboots broke the internet a few weeks back as website Rely on Horror reported that the cancelled Silent Hills is going to be brought back on PlayStation 5 alongside an overall soft reboot of the core franchise. The speculation got a lot of us here at Push Square rather excited, but according to Konami at least, the rumours aren't true.
Speaking to Rely on Horror, the original source of the rumours, a Konami US rep said: "We’re aware of all the rumors and reports but can confirm that they are not true. I know it’s not the answer your fans may want to hear." They go on to state that while the publisher isn't completely closing the door on the Silent Hill series, it won't be brought back in the way that is being reported.
Does this put a stop to the rumours? We're not sure. What we have here is a representative of Konami itself telling us that the rumours aren't true, but then of course the company would say that. The revitalisation of Silent Hill isn't going to be announced in a request for comment from a website. However, we think you should definitely put a cap on your hype and anticipation for the two rumoured projects now. There might be something in the works, but it's probably not going to take the shape we've been lead to believe.

" They go on to state that while the publisher isn't completely closing the door on the Silent Hill series, it won't be brought back in the way that is being reported."
SH Pachinko.
@Athrum or a smart phone game
Konami should just give up making games at this point
Perhaps the logic is make an obscure claim that seems somewhat reasonable and spread it as a rumor/leak so news sites that don't fact check anything also spread the word and then it's assumed to be factual. At that point, if it gets mass attention online maybe higher-ups take notice and make a move to kickstart the series again.
Or perhaps it's just lying for the sake of discussing What If scenarios.
If its not what Konami are doing....um...maybe they should? Its the first bit of excitement ive heard around the brand since PT dropped, and the first time we have discussed konami in years without a chous of 'go away' konami doing the rou ds on the internet
Konami just ain’t what they used to be.
they would say that the rumours are false though wouldnt they, they wouldnt just say yeah you got us well done we are making the new games
Well, Konami is in a really bad place right now. Not sure if they can pull a Capcom anymore, they don't seem to be interested.
Just sell your IPs Konami
Konami execs gather every day around two folders containing business strategies, one marked 'good' and the other 'bad'. They always choose the latter.
Konami is turrible
Sony buy up coinarmy.
Sony should just pick the jewellery off of this dead skeleton.
If it's too good to be true..
The internet lied too me. 😆
Give it to Capcom, they're knocking it out of the park with their remakes.
If they sold the IP there share price would raise and they get the money for the IP and then everyone is happy. Konami at this point should just leave the game industry altogether it's really got no reason to stay. It's destoryed it's work force it's IPs and made Pachinko machines that's it
I would like to believe this is false but in my heart Konami would know and just shattered my dreams.
Probably because they still want to release that Silent Hill themed slot machine in Japan as their idea of "not closing the door".
(No I'm not joking, there is a Silent Hill slot machine they want to release.)
@GADG3Tx87 they could release the slot machine and also make a new game. Seems like a win win for konami to me. I really dont understand why they dont make a new silent hill game. It would sell like crazy.
As expected I guess. Again, take any internet rumors with a grain of salr.
@ellsworth004
Yeah I agree. They would retain the IP rights but if Sony are willing to pay all the development costs I'd say let them do it. I'd assume Konami would still get a share of the sales because they'd own the IP and there's no financial risk for them.
Unless this still has something to do with the Konami/Kojima feud.
@ellsworth004 Because
a) Konami's management staff is stupid;
b) Konami is not anymore the company it used to be;
c) Konami is not making games for normal gamers anymore. They are making something for Pachinko machines only;
d) Konami's always making wrong decisions: they are stupid. Did I say that already?
e) A brand new long awaited Silent Hill for Pachinko machines confirmed!
So what's the game Ito is working on? A new Siren?
They need to go ahead and sell the IP’s. Even if they did try to make a game I have ZERO faith it will be good. Do they still have a game development team? Do they have any clue what’s happening in the industry? My guess is the answer is NO. And it’s so sad... so many amazing memories with Konami games growing up.
Ugh... are they allergic to money?
Because companies have never lied before, right?
Worst news of the day.
Another Netflix series, oh joy.
"but according to Konami at least"
Which owns the IP.
Honestly, I kinda take anything that comes from someone, that isn't from the Japanese branch of game companies, with a grain of salt. I feel like I've seen US reps say lots of contradicting statements before. Whether on purpose or just because they don't know much, I couldn't say. But I feel its more reliable to hear from the devs or people closer to those devs
Reminder to everyone here that Konami has been hiring for new console game development, They're now aware that going all in on pachislots won't work in the long term.
